Spider-Man: Web of Shadows, once you learn "web zipping" it becomes really cool and that air boss battle with Vulture, definitely one of the best in the game.

Dragon Age: Origins. First playthrough I was pretty yawn up until after the tower, then you get plunged into the world as leader of the Grey Wardens and I was like daaayum. Then I fucking beat that Dragon on the ashes quest and had a nerdgasm because it was so cool.

I played Age of Conan, I sort of liked it, one feature I always enjoyed was the lack of a huge level gap that make a player way more powerful than a person just a few levels lower, my Lv30 Guardian caqn walk away from even a Lv50 (as long as I don't turn back to fight) but I stopped playing after like 40 days. then I got an e-mail to let me play for a few more days and I thought I might as well give it a try. new character, amusing beginnings like most MMOs but nothing that would keep me there.

then suddenly some Lv12 Ranger comes up and beats the crap out of me and I was Lv13! he proceeded to beat up some Lv15 Ranger that attacked me a while ago (one I just moved away from) and murderlized him. I complimented his capabilities (as we were close to the spawn point) and asked him how he did it and he explained the process to me, it took me a while (and a bunch of PvP deaths) to get a grasp of the technique but now I'm a better player. no good enough to beat a Lv20 Mage with half my health left like that dude mind you

I was fighting like a WoW player, standing there and launching special attacks when required, which is exactly what the other players were doing but now I can use a Ranger in Melee and destroy those who attack me. it's great to know that there really is skill and knowledge to dominate others that think such things are meaningless

Fallout 3 was like that a lot for me. I was getting my arse kicked endlessly the whole way through and I was seriously considering 'packing it in' but I stayed the course because it had been given to me as a birthday gift by my sister.
But then, suddenly and out of nowhere I realised that I was having fun. I can't remember the exact moment but somewhere along the line my bitterness subsided and suddenly I was having fun and doing really well at it.

Similar story actually with Oblivion, started off and I was hopeless and didn't know what I was doing and now I'm awesome at it and I like the game a whole lot more because of it. They both felt crappy at first but once I'd gotten the hang of it, I couldn't put the controller down.

WoW was a lot like that for me. Just dicking around the world doing quests was not very exciting. Then I did a few instances and it got a lot better. Then I did my first raid and I was completely hooked.

Street Fighter 4, I had never played a Street Fighter game before this, so I had no idea how to do any special moves and practicing them got kinda frustrating. Once I got them down though, I got into it alot more.

EVE was a bit like that for me, it was dull in Empire Space, mining & missions.
Then I went to 0.0
PvPing is so much fun and that's what hooked me.

p0nd - a little flash game. It is pure greatness once you settle into it properly. Anyone who has played it will know.

Fallout 2. First couple towns (and especially the Temple of Trials) are a pain if you're not melee or unarmed. After coming into some decent weapons and picking up Sulik/Cassidy, WOOHOO!

Also Fallout 3. Though for me, it wasn't so much about the Vault as fixing the vsync mouse lag & finding the first-person perspective so much more responsive. Though Bethesda desperately needed to improve the writing & voice acting.

Fallout 3, I'm always either completely obsessed with it or so bored with it that I can't even be bothered to get past the main menu.
Yeah, the biggest problem is the buildings/tunnels. Once you're been through one, you've been through one grim-covered, rusty tin can-littered, grayish-brown building or metro station, you've been through them all and the atmosphere becomes very dull. It really captures the feel of a post-apopcalyptic world, so I guess Bethesda did their job in a certain sense...

Oblivion goes from bad to good to bad and back again for me pretty much every time I play it. Whether or not I like it depends on how I'm feeling at the moment.
same here, right now I'm playing Oblivion and it's really fun. Almost every time I start a new character the game feels refreshed and kinda new again. I also try and role play on the game a little bit. It helps with immersion. Like for instance I just bought the house in Skingrad and I'm carefully placing all kinds of items around my house on shelves, in display cases, on tables, ect ect. Right now I'm thinking of filling up all my shelves with weapons, armor and clothes. and each shelf will hold its own specific type. Yeah, I'm basically pimping out my house lol.

Have to say KH, I was 6 when I played it and at the begining Island.
'Boring'
couple of hour later
'WOOHOO!'
same with KH2.
Both the beginings were a bit crap but after they were awesome.

HAWX was like that for me. My brother bought it for God-knows-what reason, and played through it saying he had a lot of fun. I decided to give it a go (aided in no small part by the fact that Yahtzee actually liked it), but an hour or so in and I was trudging through it, determined to give it a chance despite being bored and frustrated with the controls.

Fast-forward an hour and I'm analyzing my ship choice before each mission, constantly switching up what I'm doing with my wingmen, and most importantly NOT crashing into the ground every five minutes. I figure the exact turning point was when I finally mastered the aerial controls and was able to dogfight properly, but regardless, that's the fastest a game has changed my opinion in recent memory.

Crackdown seemed really..bleuurgh at first. However, once it occurred to me that I was gradually becoming powerful enough to leap over buildings, I was sold!

I was a bit like that with Ocarina Of Time as well. Once I was inside the Deku Tree that was it, we were off.

Fallout 3. I originally picked it up wen it first dropped on rental, and there was virtually no information out there. I was looking at Gamefaqs & wikis and all that, and seeing that it appeared there was nothing out there. I got bored with it (since I'm one of those completionist guys), and eventually came back to it six months later r so, and boy had things changed.

Also, World of Warcraft. I'm pretty sure everyone who's gone through on any number of toons can tell you there's parts of leveling that just slog. For me, it was my Feral Druid, between 10-50. 20 made things a little easier with Catform, but until I got Mangle at 50 it just wasn't cutting it. Haven't looked back since. Also, on my Warlock (Affliction) there were a few slog points, mostly revolving around the new minions you could get at each level and how much they sucked compared to the Voidwalker. Things perked back up around 30 or so, but the grind from 58-60 as capped off by getting the super-fun Haunt, which has made leveling the guy a breeze.
