TF2. It was my first non-console fps so naturally I got DESTROYED.
As time went on the tides turned and out of nowhere I had 40+ hours in one week

Persona 3. The first hour or so was talking, talking, exposition, talking, and then around the hour and a half mark it gets going and it stops again for 10 to 15 minutes. Everything after that is great though.

Portal at the end. Just simple puzzles, then BOOM! All of a sudden your killing GlaDoS. That is all.

Oblivion. I made my character, and for about an hour I'm just like "GODDAMN this cave! I'm so bored of killing rats and goblins! Let me out to murder some people!"

And then when I got out and actually saw it I just sat there, stunned.

Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn was the epitome of this for me.

Part 1, Dawn Brigade: I hate this, I hope Micaiah dies horribly at the end, along with her entire band of useless dickheads.

Part 2, Crimean Rebellion: Heh, pretty fun... Not the best, but certainly entertaining...

Part 3, Ike's Mercenaries vs Dawn Brigade: I fucking LOVE this game!

Two diverse examples.

Dragon Age: Origins. Let's face it, the beginning blows big time. Everything sucks until you get out of Ostagarr and the map opens up, and until you get a reliable healer. Then it really starts to pick up and the world is fleshed out more and you start to visit all these different regions of Ferelden each with their own problems. That's when the game really sucks you in.

Dark Void. Just a mediocre shooter - until you get the jet pack and can fly around in full three dimension. The first moment you're flying about the place like a tick on steroids you think, "Holy crap, who turned on the AWESOME?!" .... Then the short lived experience is over because the devs didn't realise the jetpack is what made the game.

I would have to say Dark Cloud. Sure, the game has a few flaws, but it is still very fun. I haven't played Dark Cloud 2 yet though.

Oblivion. One of the first games I played on my Xbox. Played part of the tutorial in the sewers, was too dark in the room and couldn't see a thing. The game appeared boring and I was not used to RPGs at the time. A year later (literally) I was bored, put the thing in the Xbox, and loved it.

MW2 multiplayer. At first I had the usual gripes; 1887, n00bs and the like, but after a short while you get the hang of it and your k/d spread evens out, and it's damn fun. You learn how to play against other types of player, and it becomes one of the most simply satisfying games I know of.

Assassins Creed II for me. The first few hours were quite boring, it was mostly tutorial missions, and nothing was keeping me engaged. I persevered though, and I'm glad I did, it's good game once it gets going.

Diablo 1. When my Uncle first gave it to me, I didn't hate it, but it felt like a bit of a chore to play. Suddenly, a few years later actually, I suddenly felt like playing it again. Much later, at level 10, I simply couldn't stop building up my rogue and reducing enemies to a corpse pile. The atmosphere in that game was amazing.

Far Cry 2 became twice as fun (and piss easy) once you unlocked the auto-grenade launcher.

Mind you, that was after 20 hours of agony...

I've got to say Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Both games, especially the first one, started out bland then hooked me through the nose and pulled my insides out.

In the first game, the gameplay starts out at "meh, cool but generic" then "whoa, I have my own ship and can fly anywhere in the galaxy" to "holy shit I'm a Jedi" to "I used to be the Dark Lord of the Sith WHAT". By the end I was ready to fax my first-born to BioWare.

Killing Floor was like that for me.

I started out trying to play as a Berserker. As soon as i switched to anything other than a Berserker the game went from suck to fun.

Neverwinter Nights, *In the tutorial* "aw this is boring", *getting out into the city* "holy sh*t this is awesome!"
