Uwe Boll is the worst director ever, there I said it.

As to the two being discussed, I would have to say Emmerich. I've enjoyed some Michael Bay, when I had the DVDs and was only watching teh explody fight scenes. I've never enjoyed anything Emmerich ever did.

OP, I wouldn't call either of those great films. The Rock had a lot of great people in it, and a decent chase sequence near the beginning, but the rest of the film was rubbish.

I'll go with Bay, but since we're discussing the cinematic equivalent of bubblegum pop, it doesn't really matter.

The original Transformers is one of my favourite movies, but that can be chalked up to the writers. I was also one of ten people that liked Godzilla, but over the years, I've come to realise that Independence Day is an exercise in American wankery. So, on the basis that Bay has made less movies concerning America as the only country that can save the world, I'd say that Emmerich is only slightly worse.

They both serve a purpose.

However...

I will always hate Bay now for making Megan Fox popular and reducing my favorite childhood series to leg humping jokes.
And how the hell did he get away with the racist twins?!

"Oh we don't read so good"

But the crazy new-york sounding leg humper... now he could read transformer writing just fine!
Damn that pissed me off.

Only Bay could make the eighties cartoon look better than a mega-million motion picture.

Emmerich can actually direct a good movie, IE Independence Day and....uh

While Michael Bay can't do anything right and needs to die.

Gonna say Bay because both Transformers movies gave me headaches and the first one had a very awkward situation where I was watching the mum talk to Shia LaDouche about wanking while I was with my 11 year old sister and my parents.

Also I should note that I liked the Bad Boys movies.

And M Night Shamamamama... (something) did alright with The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and Signs but The Village was possibly the most shite film ever... well, until I saw The Happening. So basically I'm waiting for him get back on form.

Pre-Transformers, I might have said they were about equal, but cannot in good consciousness do so now, so my vote goes with Bay. Despite this, they both make loud, stupid films and so the distinction between them is razor-thin, at best.

And for people on here saying Independence Day was good, look deep down in your hearts and answer me this: do you think it is good because you liked it when you were twelve? Is nostalgia clouding your otherwise impeccable judgment? If it is not, then congrats. You're a horrible person for trying to convince others it was a good film, because it really is not.

Of course Bay is the demagogue of trash cinema.
Emmerich actually managed to squeeze out a few moderately entertaining scenes in Independence Day{/b], though only through the saving grace that is Jeff Goldblum.

Let's see how much flak I'll get for saying this...

I hate neither.

I dislike Bay for introducing a few breathtakingly stupid robots, but overall it's still two movies with giant robots and a lot of shit blowing up, which is exactly what I expected and wanted. Also you can't really fault Bay for how annoying the humans are, because that's a time-honored tradition in the entire franchise all the way back to 1984. And for the record, I liked both Bad Boys movies, although the second is definitely the weaker of the two.
As for Emmerich, I liked Stargate, Independence Day and Godzilla, so until someone gives me an example of one of his movies I've seen and disliked I won't say anything against the guy.

I think that i can safely say that Bay sucks ass.

Emmerich makes movies that you can at least laugh at how bad they are.

I hate Bay with a passion after he throughly ripped apart my childhood with his Transformers movies. I think for once Id actually take a Uwe Boll movie over his explosion packed cow patties, at least Uwe Boll movies you can sorta laugh at it, and sometimes it'll keep your attention especially if your drunk/high.

I'm sorry, but I loved the shit out of Independence Day. And as bad as it is, and though I do try, I cannot hate Godzilla. Roland Emmerich, you're OK in my book.
