Quentin Tarantino for me. He seems to make the most consistently amazing movies. I'm really a big fan of stylish works and all of his movies are just done in such a cool-handed way that you can't help but be drawn in.

Ugh tough one to pick. Either Quentin Tarantino or David Lynch. Because both are very brilliant directors and both have movies in my top movie list.

Other honorable mentions would be Christopher Nolan and Orson Wells for Citizen Kane.

Frankly, I love too many directors to name just one, so here's a list of all of them and the films of theirs I consider my favorite:

Peter Jackson (Dead Alive...[small]I also like this other little film he directed called Lord of the Rings...or something like that[/small])
Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker)
Quentin Tarantino (Kill Bill)
Jean-Pierre Jeunet (The City of Lost Children)
Wes Anderson (The Royal Tenenbaums...[small]I also actually liked Life Aquatic[/small])
David Fincher (Se7en...[small]also Fight Club[/small])
Park Chan-wook (Oldboy)
Werner Herzog (Aguirre, the Wrath of God)
Takeshi Miike (Audition...[small]probably the scariest film I've seen in recent memory[/small])
Terry Gilliam (Brazil...[small]AND The Fisher King...AND 12 Monkeys...AND Monty Python and the[/small] you know what, fuck this!)

Terry Gilliam is my favorite director of all time.

Alfonso Cuarón (Children of Men, Y Tu Mamá También).
Although if you're a fan of the steady cam you'll probably hate everything he does.
After that I like Tarkovsky, Spielberg, Mann, and Tarantino.

No Robert Rodriguez yet? He's an ingenious director. Also Tarantino, and of course, Scorcese and Sergio Leone. I'm quite sure I'll like Kubrick, but I haven't had the pleasure to see his films yet. That's currently my next goal!

I wish I could say some obscure European director to show how much of a cinemaphile I am but that's not true. My favourite directors are Quentin Tarantino for his blood-splattered banter pics and Kevin Smith, the modern day hero of the teenage proletariat. Hell, even my favourite foreign directors are world famous, like Takashi Miike, Robert Rodriguez, Mikael Haneke, Guillermo Del Toro, and Satoshi Kon.
