This is topic is a mix between "What do you hate/crap inventions"


Is there a device out there or invention out there that you really hate?

I'll explain: Recently I got a new pair of ear buds because my old ones broke. This would be fine except my new ear buds are CRAP! They're the gel type ones that you shove in your ear holes and never want to stay in. They're like ear plugs, you can't hear anything that's happening around you except for what's being pumped through them and they hurt like hell when you have them in too long. Whose idea was this? There was nothing wrong with Sony's regular type of ear buds!

I hate computer speakers that don't come with a 'headphone' option. Instead they have the Mp3/iPod AUX option. OR If they simply make the sound come from the laptop through the speakers into the headphones, instead of the speakers themselves, which improves the sound quality drastically.

I know the ones you mean and I agree, they suck. They don't seem to stay in better then regular ear buds and they hurt the ear more. I prefer Apples regular ear buds much more. They sit nicely in my ear without having to jam them all the way in.

Head Phones are best though.

I really hate any form of software that has any noticeable bugs, freezes (even temporarily), or takes more than 2 seconds to perform a task. In most cases it's possible to avoid these flaws with better programming or removing extraneous features, but most developers just do it half-assed.

Yeah, I get pretty annoyed with the memory leaks on my phone so end up compulsively flushing my RAM every 15 minutes. For physical inventions I hate pentagon screws that apple made for their products. That stuff is just stupid.

Computer speakers that are extremely quiet when you have them turned up to maximum with every sound aspect on your computer turned to 100%.

I can't use ear buds. They mess with my sense of balance and make me sick to my stomach, kind of like car-sickness. I use Bose noise cancelling headphones instead. Really nice stuff.

The Xbox 360's cooling system. Rather then blow air into the hot spots (CPU, GPU, RAM, etc.) the fans suck air in through the top and bottom of the system, and have the slow moving lukewarm air "cool" the Xbox. Not to mention the fans are noisy and cheaply built. And as one last blow the design, two of the GPU's chip are on the bottom of the Xbox; relying on some epoxy to absorb heat and disperse it to the case.

Captcha: window dressing. That is a mighty fine invention, if I do say so my self. From an observers point of view of course.

In ear buds are a must have for me. As a drummer, it's easy to find a cheaper pair to throw around at school and stuff too. I love In Ear.

I think the 3D on the 3DS is a stupid ass invention. I've never once been able to play it for more than 5 minutes at a time with 3D on. And the battery life... Ugh. But this is the escapist, you guys already know this stuff.

Oh, I don't know, the broken image symbol is kind of useful as a place holder (seriously, the link isn't working for some reason. I tried following it directly, but all it did was redirect me to a list of various images.)

OT: 5.1 out on a 13 inch DVD/TV combo unit. I'm not kidding, I used to work in my community college's computing and testing area, and they had little 13 inch TVs with built in DVD players, mainly for anatomy students to watch lectures on. These are the kind of things that you used to see on people's chests of drawers back in the 90's, except back then they had built in VHS units. Anyway, the backs of the things had a digital coaxial output for Dolby Digital and, potentially, DTS. I can't imagine what kind of kludged together home theater system would have one of those combo units, but support for actual digital surround. A Hafler circuit, maybe, but you'd have to be pretty desperate or have weird budget issues to use one of those things with a full blown home theater system.

Edit: I mean, the main benefit of these things is that they're small and easily portable, two adjectives that in no way apply to a home theater system.
