I would normally agree to this, but I finally decided to challenge Dullahan. Stupid Djinn Storm...just like the Doom Dragon.Redlin5 said:Respect the Doom Dragon.

I hear there are harder shmups out there, to be fair. And, say, Demons' Souls might be harder. Never played it.Rabid Toilet said:It's too bad that guy completely cheesed the last two phases. So instead, I'll nominate Yukari Yakumo, from Perfect Cherry Blossom. Let's say you beat the game on Normal with no continues - a feat in itself. Then you get the horrendously difficult Extra stage. Beat that too? Great! Now you get the Phantasm stage, which is the same but worse, culminating in the hardest boss of the entire series.
Keep watching, it gets worse with horrifying frequency.
I was going to mention proud mode Sephiroth in Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2, but yeah, Yukari probably takes the cake.
Sephiroth only took me a week, maybe two. Think I was on Yukari for a good couple months before I finally beat her. Felt amazing when I did it.
That they are. One of the appeals of the series, really, that sets it apart from other shmups - really nice-looking, elaborate patterns rather than "here, just have some more bullets."Syntax Error said:This makes the dude who double-plays (one guy piloting two aircraft) Ikaruga look like a pansy. Also... Them patterns are beatiful, hypnotic AND DEADLY.
The flashbacks, oh dear lord the flashbacks... NO! I don't want to go back there, you cant make meeeee!!genamp said:Most of the higher marks for FFXII were unbearably difficult for me. Hell, even some of the regular bosses were true tests of endurance and patience for me. But those elite marks were just truly unbearable. I'll never forget the name Yiazmat. The horror, the horror...
I might have been exaggerating... Still tho, if this doesn't impress you, you aren't human:Cogwheel said:That they are. Also, really? I kinda thought the double-play thing was a good deal more impressive than beating Yukari. On the other hand, I've never played Ikaruga (plan to some day, though), so I may be way off.
Ah yes, lava scorpion-spider combo beat the everloving shit out of you. If you look up "wake-up-call boss" in the dictionary, chances are, you'll see a picture of him.Ellen of Kitten said:My mind goes to the hard games. Demons Souls, and stuff like that. But, I think the trophy goes to the first hard boss of the modern generation of games; Phantom from Devil May Cry! When you encounter him, you've had so little opportunity to advance Dante's abilities. Maybe you were able to buy a green orb. Perhaps another rune for when Dante goes into Demon mode. Working with so little, Phantom smacked the crap out of Dante, requiring you the player to skill up in a real hurry. If you didn't have what it took to beat The Phantom at the time, the rest of the game was going to demolish you. It was a trial, almost litterly, by fire.
Oh yes, definitely. I've seen it before. Like I said, it's probably a fair bit better than what I managed. I mean, it's not like I got a landslide victory or anything like that - I rarely manage to end the level with anything more than one life and one bomb.Syntax Error said:I might have been exaggerating...
