Why agree with Yahtzee?

Yahtzee is critic. Not a game reviewer. What he does is pick up the bad points of a game and flower it all up into something amusing. What he says is true, but it is not to be regarded as a definitive opinion as to whether a game is good or not because:
A. Many good points of games are overlooked for the sake of humor
B. People enjoy different things

I find his reviews generally accurate when presenting a game's flaws, however.

I see ZP as more of a funny video about games rather than a review, i guess you can also call it Yahtzee's personal opinion of a game but you shouldn't take it seriously.
There's no crime in that, he makes his personal taste in games very obvious so if he doesn't like something like Resonance of Fate, it's more him than the game... it doesn't mean the points he makes don't have any merit but it's not the aim of the videos.

Yahtzee is where I go to get a good laugh. When it comes to actual reviews, I look elsewhere.

I'm like most Escapists. I watch both Zero Punctuation and Unskippable, the most popular video series on the site. They never fail to make me laugh and smile whenever I watch their work. However, since Zero Punctuation is the more popular of the two, more people are inclined to agree with it. Despite that, some people forget that Zero Punctuation is a "game review" in the same sense that the Colbert Report and Daily Show is a "News Show", and tend to take Yahtzee very seriously. It usually swings both ways, with people clinging on to his words like it was passed down from God himself, or with people hating ever last syllable that he utters.
I've also noticed that many people, even if they haven't played the game have posted in the comments that they harbor the same exact complaints, even if it's overlooked or practically fictional. And in the few cases that Yahtzee does review a game well, numerous people lavish their praises on it like its the second coming.
Do you always agree with Yahtzee? I have my disagreements with what he says sometimes, but that doesn't stop me from laughing and enjoying the game.
Some people are impressionable and will do whatever someone popular does. those people should feel bad about themselves but they don't so their behavior doesn't stop.

I myself tend to agree with Yahtzee but he obviously over does it for comic effect. I love his series and is the only thing I really watch on the escapist. I think people take his criticisms far too seriously and literal. There is no need to defend your favourite game just because this reviewer doesn't like it. If you don't agree, just accept this person's viewpoint and carry on. It won't be the first time some one disagrees with you about a game and certainly won't be the last.

For the most part I don't agree with him. But he's right about some games eg. Sonic Unleashed.

If I don't agree with him he might get angry and come find me...

But seriously I usually agree with him on most points, I however does not not think the flaws he brings up is such a big deal. And I wholeheartly agree about singelplayer.

I watch his videos, for the comedy, not for the reviewing and I'm sure a lot of people are the same.

I agree with Yahtzee a lot of the time, and trust his judgement a lot, because I tend to find the same things in the games I do play that he's tested... but far from always. However, even if he dislikes a certain game and I like it, his observations are usually valid.

For instance, I played EVE online for a fairly brief while, at least in EVE terms. Even when I was enjoying it (had to do with needing to use up a HUGE amount of time, among other things, I believe), I could watch his review of it and go "yep, that's this game right here, he's not wrong in the slightest". In the end I concluded that his comment that having fun with it was pretty much impossible, too, but by that time some new patch to WoW had been released, so I had somewhere to go that I was no longer bored of :p

As has been said before: I watch ZP because it's funny and to get some kind of awareness of current games (since my budget isn't getting me anything more recent than the Orange Box, I'll never play 99% of the games he reviews). On the other hand, I read and enjoy EP much more because he addresses ongoing trends in media themselves, thus enhancing my own capacity to look at my environment critically. What weaknesses does X have? What will happen to Y given enough or too much time and attention? Not that I'll ever BE a game designer, but in the event that I try to create something - say, the next Great Epic Fantasy - I'll know what hazards to avoid, in large part because Yahtzee will have been there at some point telling me not to polarize moral decisions and female characters.

not alot of things, I thought Metal Gear solid 4 was fantastic, I thought Bioshock 2 was on the same level as it's predecessor; actually I disagree with him with plenty, I just like his humor.

i tend to agree with him ~ 75%.

he indeed notices stuff most critics overlook, and most importantly, i believe he could actually be a decent game designer.
having watched and read his reviews i've come to think that he understands the gaming industry better than most fucktards working in it.

i prefer to read/watch game reviews done by someone who at least seems to be able to do better, if he had the motivation to jump in the cesspool that the industry is today.

oh, and as a side note, i think this guy lives his fuckin' dream. who wouldn't want to work from his fucking bedroom, and get payed to play games bought by the escapist, AAAND have the opportunity to speak his mind afterwards. if i could do that and get payed for it (enough so that in a couple of years i can open my own fucking bar AAAND still afford "herbal baths")i would be sooooo happy :)

I do agree with him when he points out the game flaws, because he is telling the truth about them. But that doesn't mean that I automatically hate every game that he reviews.

And he's a game "critic" so it's his job really to point out flaws.

I appreciate Yahtzee's cool hat.

Seriously though, I just find he takes a humourous and irreverent look at games and the trops that define them, then sticks his finger in their eye and says 'can you see what I am talking about?'

I suspect that metaphor didn't work.

I am okay with that.

The idea is that he develops and communicates excellent opinions in a humourous manner. What more can I ask? I often agree with what he says, even about games I like.

i also agree his humor makes the reviews intesting and funny to watch he makes good judgments and is not afraid to point out a games flaws, just sometimes he doesnt realise were in a society where games are made for money not enjoyment and an avrage gamer has an attention span of a goldfish.

Welcome to the world of Fanboys! They steal phrases, 'borrow' jokes and like what their personal Jesus likes because they think it makes them cool.

I don't agree with everything Yahtzee has said; there's been plenty of games I've loved that he's practically shat all over but I appreciate the humour in it, though some games yeah if they've been shit I've been inclined to agree! But I don't take his word as gospel, I'll just play a game for myself!

I normally disagree with Yahtzee on almost everything...I only watch it to see what he comes up with next.
