Yahtzee is funny, and I take his opinion as seriously as I would a friends. I respect his view, but might choose to try the game myself if I think it worthwhile.

Ever since his trashing of GTA4 I've respected his opinion of video games more than everyone else. Plus he doesn't use scores to tell you if you'll like the game or not; he just describes the game in detail while insulting it.

Edit: But no I don't treat his every word like the truth.

exactly, and man, the amount of threads on Yahtzee I see, I think people forget this very important point: apart from some exceptions (orange box >.> ) he's meant to point out the flaws and bad sides of games :p

I don't usually agree with him on his opinions about games. I said this a little while back and I'll repeat. I don't think his reviews are accurate and I don't think he's funny but I watch every episode of Zero Punctuation and I read Extra Punctuation as well. The reason is that I think he has some very valid criticisms about the industry itself. I treat it less like a humor piece or a review, more as a column where he uses specific video games as vehicles to discuss issues within the gaming world. This is very possibly not his intent, but it's the reason I still watch the program. I tend to agree with his opinions on the gaming industry even if I tend to disagree with his reviews.

I dunno. I enjoy his opinion and he is (almost) always hilarious to listen too, but I don't always agree with his opinions.

However, I often use his 'reviews'/critics on a game in conjuction to other reviews before I decide if I should get a game or not, because I am a gamer on a budget (just like everyone else) and I want to make sure I get top-quality out of my game of choice.

Meh, I rant all the time at games while I sit there and play them. Doesn't change the fact that I still play them over and over again nor will anything Yahtzee says. The only reason to watch his videos is for his sense of humor that seems to work so well on video games.

If I like a game and he hates it I'm not going to change my opinion because Yahtzee doesn't like it. Just like I won't not buy a game based off his reviews. Though I have never actually liked a game he has really torn apart in a review. So, I guess I do sometimes agree with Yahtzee, but not because it's Yahtzee's opinion. We just happen to have some of the same opinions.

To call him a critic in the sense that Colbert is news is in my opinion, how would you put it, insulting. He makes valid points about the gaming industry and has a logic behind is facade of obscenities. Now, do I harbor his exact same opinion of games? Well, no, but then again I don't play games with the same scrutiny as he does.

I just watch ZP cause I find it entertaining. Sometimes Yahtzee feels the same way I do about something in a game, but i've yet to really base my opinion on something he's said.

BECAUSE YAHTZEE IS GOD AND IF YOU DON'T AGREE WITH HIM, YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF!

OT: But, in all seriousness, it depends on if I have the same opinion as him or not. Take for example his review of FF XIII. While I agree that Hope is a whiny little emoboy, I quite like Vanille myself. I know this isn't the best example, but I can't think of anything else at the moment.
For the most part, I watch him for the laughs he gives me. There are few times where I take his reviews seriously.

Sometimes I agree sometimes I disagree. I don't really think about it too much. I don't watch Zero Punctuation for the content anyway, I watch it because it's funny.

Some of his points agree in general with my opinions but he's usually a lot harsher than I would be, which is obviously for the sake of comedy or possibly because he does genuinely hate the game.

Does it really matter though? The only way you can ever know if you personally like a game is to play it yourself, preferably with no preconceived ideas - although that's almost impossible.

For what it is, Yahtzee's videos are great. He tends to admit it himself when he is nitpicking on things, and they are really not meant to be taken as gospel or anything. It's a guy's opinion about games, and I would say I disagree with him most of the time, but I still make sure I see what he has to say every week.

He criticizes accurately, but there are the occasional things that I disagree with, only ever minor discrepancies. He'll usually point out when a game is fun, though, and sometimes that's all that matters to me. Other than that, he can be nit-picky all he wants and it won't bother me; he's been a gamer longer than I have, he's far more into it than I am, and he knows what he likes. *shrug*

Yahtzee is first and foremost funny. After that, the things which he says are good are generally good. The issue is that it's hardly a complete list, and many things which are good, he says are bad. Of course, this is because that's what makes his video enjoyable, him being extremely opinionated.

However, I don't think many people take Yahtzee with anything except a grain of salt. Most everyone seems to understand that Yahtzee is just expressing an opinion from a single, relatively narrow worldview (Narrow insofar as it is one persons, and a picky one at that). I think the reason why it seems people automatically get behind Yahtzee is because Yahtzee has expressed a lot of opinions on a lot of games, and if a person happens to be expressing an opinion that coincides with something Yahtzee once said, they will likely reference him. That and people tend to quote or paraphrase him to make points unrelated to anything Yahtzee has said (How many times have you seen a post that is essentially, "Short answer, no. Long answer, nooooooooooooooooooooo..."). When discussing on this site, its only natural to use references that we are sure others will understand, and Yahtzee is likely the single biggest common thread we all share. If everyone on this site thought Yahtzee was full of it 99% of the time, and referenced him for the remaining 1%, that would still be a lot of Yahtzee bandwagon-jumping.

As time goes on, Ive noticed that every once in a while, Yahtzee comes across like he is trying to make an argument that is well grounded in facts and supporting evidence, applicable to the general public at large, and in reality, it's just his opinion, and a minority one at that. I realize that this is kind of his thing, but I do sort of wish that there was more of a sense of him being a journalist, and less a sense of him being one solitary, opinionated gamer who just so happens to argue his perspective in an incredibly entertaining way.

Considering the fact i dont play nor wont play majority of games he reviews because they either are on systems i dont have or just not the genre i enjoy i find it very hard to agree/disagree with him.

That said however, a little bit of over the top nitpiking is always good to keep your point of view unbiased. I cant rage-hate him for finding flaws in games i do enjoy playing because neither his nor anyone else opinion will change that fact, but there is no perfect product, no flawless game. I just consider it a balance for all the oh-so-common fanboism around that praises games without even a moment of thought and flaming everyone that dares to point out some smaller or bigger flaw in it.

Its just what critics are for apart form shattering your universe and ruining your perfect pink-tinted world :p

I don't agree with Yahtzee, but I still like watching Zero Punctuation. He's ripped apart a few games that I've enjoyed, but the video was still funny. It's called having an opinion, and being alright with the opinions of others. I don't let people influence what I think either. I guess that's why me and Zero Punctuation get along so well.

I tend to agree with what Yahzee says, or at the very least chuckle because some of the things that he says about games that i've played are things that i've also been irritated or annoyed about. Even so, I don't agree with all of what he says, especially about strategy gamers being "losers" and all that funk. It's just fun entertainment that pokes fun at things that I observe on my own.
