The title is just a joke about those 'why all the hate' threads, though I guess I'm not helping by doing it too...

Anyway, in Fallout 3 and New Vegas (I haven't had the chance to play 1 or 2) there are giant ants, tarantula hawks, scorpions, preying mantis(es?), Flies, Roaches, but as far as I know, there aren't any Spiders

Now, I think spiders would have been a natural addition, especially in the mojave wasteland. You have Tarantula Hawks, where are the Tarantulas that they can, you know, hawk?

What do you think about this? Has bethesda ever made a statement about spiders?

Simple. They don't include spiders because doing so would change parts of the game from simply being "fun" to being "goddamned terrifying".

I think spotting a deathclaw or Cazador off in the distance can be pretty intense.

Mutated giant spiders would mean mutated huge cobwebs.

Do you want to see skyscraper ruins conencted with huge cobwebs, indicating that there is a matchingly huge, eight-legged terror living inside there somewhere?

Dunno about you, but Id are saying unless you bring a huge flamethrower and several gas trucks to power it, I would not get closer then visual range to that.

If I saw a giant spider in that game, I would not only promptly crap myself, I'd scream loudly shut off the game console and go hide under the covers.

That is why I cannot play Dark Messiah: Might and Magic.

mmh, giant mutated albino tarantulas
That would be an interesting addition, along with a guitar melee-weapon thingy

Because most games already have spiders, so they thought they would do something different and have ants?

Just imagine though, you're walking along the Mojave, you were told you'd be safe on the road, a bundle of bushes is infront of you on your right, no big deal, it's exactly the same as the last bushes right? WRONG, you walk past and then BOOM trap door spider all up in your business.

I don't know if Dark Messiah is in there, but DM is drastically different from Heroes.

I was wondering the same thing while Playing Fallout 3.

I think huge Spiders should be included because everything else is being super-sized might as well but big spiders into the game.

Compared to a Deathclaw I would rather fight a big spider then them. Every time I see one I almost crap my pants while I'm running backwards trying to kill it before it kills me.

I'd be fine with huge spiders as long as they don't breathe fire.
What about the possibiliity of poison? If you thought Cazador's venom was annoying, wait until you feel the bite a a mutated taranchula!

Actually, spotting them 10 feet from you is much more intense ;o)

I lost the fear of Cazadores when I first headed north from Goodsprings. Sticking to the mountains I came across a nest of things, discovered my guns didn't do shit and just kept walking. Don't know what the problem was, as I was easily able to outrun them. Would have made it to New Vegas if I hadn't gotten cocky and was killed by a fire gecko.

Deathclaws are still pretty frightening, but lack any real audio to bump them into the terrifying category. And they're still victim to the whole 'Stand on a rock' thing.

Why is everyone so arachnophobic? I really don't see how a giant spider would be any more creepy/terrifying/ridiculous than a giant scorpion, ant, grizzly bear, mutant, retarded fish-frog thing (Mirelurk King) etc. Unless it's the spider from Limbo *shudders*.

Maybe spiders didn't survive the radiation due to some genetic scientific stephen hawkings thing?
Not important: But Stephen Hawking is a Physicist, so I wouldn't really ask him about genetics : D

i suppose its partially cus its hard to program the AI for a spider i mean Scorpions still bug our everytime and get stuck in geometry, maby its a overlook, maby they though ok so we got loads of badass scary things lets make the story now, maby making the art assets for Spiders and resulting webs was too long and too expensive. but spiders thinking about it would have been scary, make you hate the game and brilliant, big scary monsters make fallout, fallout imo
