Not important: But Stephen Hawking is a Physicist, so I wouldn't really ask him about genetics : D
You saying a physicist isn't allowed to know stuff about genetics? We're a very well rounded knowledgeable bunch. I can do the entire Scientist Salarian song in tune I'll have you know. You're just "insert correct -ism here".

OT: There's a mod that adds spiders into Fallout 3, it's based on the mesh used for ants but is distinctly more terrifying. I think if they implemented them they should also implement some sort of slipper weapon that is primarily melee, but can be thrown if you're experienced enough.

Also, here's the mod if you're interested http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15603

Lol well put my friend. I'm terrified of what spiders could have turned into.

If I saw a giant spider in that game, I would not only promptly crap myself, I'd scream loudly shut off the game console and go hide under the covers.

That is why I cannot play Dark Messiah: Might and Magic.
I just picked that up in the Heroes of Might and Magic bundle in the steam Sale just gone, is it any good?
I don't know if Dark Messiah is in there, but DM is drastically different from Heroes.
Yeah its in there, Heroes 5 and the two add ons and dark Messiah all for £3

I guess because Spider's aren't the sort of horror the fallout devs were going for. And it's completely understandable. I don't think any sort of spider in fallout would be suited for it.

Spider's are usually depicted in certain types of visual, creepy horror. Designed to make your spine tingle, and to be actually terrified. It's also a last resort tbh.

Fallout goes for my psychological horror, such as murderous housewives, cannibalistic nuclear families (haha, nuclear...), the whole point of fallout's humour, and horror aspects is that it's supposed to be ironic, not creepy and terrifying. It's the horror of nuclear war, and it's effects that it's had up on the US, and the humour combines with it so that the American spirit merely shrugs off this nuclear holocaust, puts on their hats and continues off to work at the office to make baseball Cadillac freedom burgers. And then murder everyone who hasn't memorized the constitution.

It's like dementia, you know they're sick, but they think it's normal. So that's blend of horror Fallout goes for, so spiders would just ruin the tone :p

Does the term "Demonic Spiders" mean nothing to you?

Anyway, I think Bethesda (and Obsidian working on Bethesda's engine) left spiders out of that to make up for the giant spiders in other games of theirs. Such as Skyrim.

I will make it a quest of mine to destroy every spider that exists in that game.

I think spotting a deathclaw or Cazador off in the distance can be pretty intense.
If you think that's scary, just imagine what the spider would've mutated into? To think those two creatures came from harmless organisms.. If that same thing happened to a spider, I shudder at the thought.

Haha, I was just saying that I'd rather ask someone who specialises in genetics.

I don't have any hate for Physicists! I'm going to school to become one.

Mutated giant spiders would mean mutated huge cobwebs.

Do you want to see skyscraper ruins conencted with huge cobwebs, indicating that there is a matchingly huge, eight-legged terror living inside there somewhere?

Dunno about you, but Id are saying unless you bring a huge flamethrower and several gas trucks to power it, I would not get closer then visual range to that.
Just imagine though, you're walking along the Mojave, you were told you'd be safe on the road, a bundle of bushes is infront of you on your right, no big deal, it's exactly the same as the last bushes right? WRONG, you walk past and then BOOM trap door spider all up in your business.
And it's at that point that I'd write a letter to Obsidian demanding they buy me some new pants.

I'm not sure if it's where you were intending to go with that illustration, but I have to say that what you've just described sounds awesome... :)

Hey, that's just one less bodily function to take care of, leaving more time for games!

Buy Skyrim

Mod it to look like Fallout

Enjoy Fallout 4 Skyrim Mod

Skyrim has large spiders...

Also because they would poison and be about 15x worse then Cazadors

When you speak of this I see Dogtown (Denver) but w/ spiders....and myself on a cliff outside of town w/ the Heavy incinerator bombing everything in sight w/ stealthed...also a mile wide area of pure mines

The title is just a joke about those 'why all the hate' threads, though I guess I'm not helping by doing it too...

Anyway, in Fallout 3 and New Vegas (I haven't had the chance to play 1 or 2) there are giant ants, tarantula hawks, scorpions, preying mantis(es?), Flies, Roaches, but as far as I know, there aren't any Spiders

Now, I think spiders would have been a natural addition, especially in the mojave wasteland. You have Tarantula Hawks, where are the Tarantulas that they can, you know, hawk?

What do you think about this? Has bethesda ever made a statement about spiders?
I'm going to guess that the spiders didn't get a chance to rad-up into monsters BECAUSE of the birds, who are techincally on your side.

Alternatively, I would say that they were eaten by Rad-scorpions.

Other alternatively, they were barbecued by fire-breathing ants.

Extra alternatively, Bethesda didn't want to get sued for copying the Doctor Who episode, Planet of the Spiders, which is about spiders turned giant-sized by radiation on an alien world.
