Simple. They don't include spiders because doing so would change parts of the game from simply being "fun" to being "goddamned terrifying".

I think spotting a deathclaw or Cazador off in the distance can be pretty intense.
I found out a couple of days ago exactly what Cazadors do to people who encounter them randomly. Since then, I've invested in a sniper rifle with a long-distance scope.

The giant ants in Fallout are a nod to the movie "Them!"
It's about a colony of ants that is mutated by radiation from atomic testing and grows to horrific size.
It's still one of the best "nuclear-mishap-makes-a-giant-rampaging-something" movies out there.

Spiders have no such movie. Usually giant spiders, (in old sci-fi movies,) are from space.
But I guess it would be neat if the aliens from Mother Ship Zeta returned with giant spiders.

As long as there is a "Does Everything That a Spider Can" perk that results from being bit by one in an area bathed in high levels of radiation, giant spiders in the Mojave wasteland could be very welcome indeed.

8-Legged Freaks might be a touch too modern for those purposes, I reckon, as is Arachnophobia(though the spiders in that are merely relatively giant compared to the average arachnid plus they aren't radioactive).

I don't know why Fallout 3 and New Vegas didn't have them, but my guess is because the first Fallout games didn't. And in the Fallout Bible, Chris Avellone said that they didn't want to do spiders because it was such a cliche in RPGs. So that's why the first Fallout games didn't have spiders.

Arachnophobia is a common affliction. Adding spiders to the next Fallout would render it basically unplayable for someone such as myself, who leaps his own head height into the air whenever he sees a picture of a tarantula.

No spiders for me thanks. Just stick to the Radscorpions for your dose of arachnid-slaughtering fun.

well at least the big spiders will be in skyrim.(I'll be sure to stay away from them)
I didn't even like Oblivion and I still feel irritated that this is gonna kill any enjoyment I might get out of Skyrim. And let me put it this way: I loved Fallout 3 and New Vegas.

Also, who the fuck thought putting ads on captchas was a good idea?

Achievement unlocked: Arachnophobia
BFS killshot from across the room, from a laid down position, while wearing a dressing gown, on a moving target, while also paying attention to what's happening on TV.

I'd be fine with huge spiders as long as they don't breathe fire.
What about the possibiliity of poison? If you thought Cazador's venom was annoying, wait until you feel the bite a a mutated taranchula!
Poison can be fixed with items and sleeping, being suddenly lit on fire not so much.

Oh trust me, they would and they would shoot out used needle head out of their bottoms
Since the fire ants were part of a quest that could be avoided by say running, the same thing applies to the future super death spiders you speak. And if one did see the city full of webs they could just go around it like mostly everything else in the game.

Oh, it's quite simple really. Spiders are biologically unable to withstand the maximum dosage of radiation that other insects can survive. It has to do with the PSHHHHHHSCBSOPVNWKLJNDXP!!!

Yeah, I have no idea. Probably has something to do the arachnophobia thing.

What about FLAMING VENOM! If there can be ants whose venom ignites on contact with oxygen, why not spider venom that bursts into flame on contact with oxygenated blood? So that whenever one bites you all your veins start burning! That would be...well, actually pretty horrifying if I think about it...

Don't know what the problem was, as I was easily able to outrun them.
Sorry, but I totally disagree with you there. I've NEVER been able to outrun Cazador, even when running directly away. Unless you're using a mod or cheat to increase your speed, they're usually a lot faster than you.

Yes, I'm one of those who crap themselves at the sight of a swarm of cazadors. If they added in giant, mutated taratulas, I would be the first to run away and hide.

arachnophobia? its harder to deal with the implications of a radioactive creature gaining the ability to SHOOT FUCKING WEB NETS than an ant with a flamethrower? Maybe they just didn't feel like making something with 8 legs. Maybe they just had enough with all the mandibles. Who knows?

My bet is the web slinging, I wouldn't want to fight an 8 foot long radioactive Spiderman in Fallout...scratch that, now I kinda do...
