I recently picked up Hearthfire for $4.99 on Steam, after a few hours of tearing my hair out, trying to get it to work in NMM, I managed to get it working. I had quite a bit of fun with it, I enjoyed building my home and liked it as an addition to the game. I have noticed many many people attacking Hearthfire for apparently being the worst thing to ever happen.

I dont get it, what exactly is so horribly terrible about this DLC to you?
It adds a diversion to a game that provides new and interesting content, at a low price.

What are you all so mad about?

Because it isn't a 30+ hour expansion with 500 new weapons, 600 new armors, and 800 years worth of voice acting.

Also it doesn't cause my computer to shit gold, I'm pretty pissed about that.
*sarcasm*

Hearthfire really isn't that bad, and I'm glad Bethesda is improving the housing situation in their games. It isn't exactly great, or needed, but it s not like horse armor level shit.

Its a neat little distraction between big DLC releases, something Bethesda said, before the game came out, they would do.

This is exactly what I mean, They never played it up as this amazing DLC package. I even see people claiming that Bethesda just sucks at producing DLC now, Right after Dawnguard came out and was adored overall.

Truly there is a stench of entitlement.

While I haven't had a chance to play it yet, it might have something to do with that.

Nope, because this issue was entirely due to my own retardedness.

Because it could be so much more, because most of its features have already been done by modders and better.

Being a extensive modder of skyrim I can safely say there is not a single mod, not even the build your own home mod, that comes close to the level of customization that Hearthfire allows for.

The only people I can see buying it are console players, they have no house mods. If you are a pc gamer who bought this you messed up there have been mods that have done this better than Hearthfire. Also player created houses that are WAY! better than anything you can build in Hearthfire. For console gamers a good buy, for pc gamers ..horse armor.

This is so easily argued by those who have no experience in modding. There is so much more to Hearthfire as a DLC than a simple house mod.

Also, This is a DLC available on XBOX, so what is your point? It sucks because it isnt everything you want or expect from a nexus mod? You have set the bar infinitely too high.

Absolutely not.

Again, you seem to be ignoring most of the features and focusing entirely upon the fact that a house is involved.

It seems expensive for what is basically a nicely done mod.

It may have other elements and what-not, but, it really doesn't seem all that spectacular in terms of gameplay, rather a side thing which, again, while maybe not done as well, is more something I'd expect from a mod.

This was my thought process.

Front of Head: Oh wow! Hearthfire is on Steam! $5! We should buy it!
Back of Head: What's in Hearthfire?
FH: You build a house!
BH: And?
FH: That's it, kinda...
BH: Aren't there mods on Nexus that give you houses for free?
FH: ...
BH: ...
FH: You're right. Fuck this shit!

By that logic all DLC/expansions are pointless because mods do everything from new armor, weapons, characters, and quests for free.

No I think you're smelling your own generalizations and misunderstanding of buzzwords you heard from IGN. Not liking something or thinking it's not worth the money is not entitlement.

Exactly!

Of course, most DLC packages tend to be more full-featured then Hearthfire. New skill trees, more locations, a two to three hour quest line, new weapon types, plus the benefits that come with improved production values (voice acting, easy install, fewer bugs), all wrapped up into a single package.

But then there's the small stuff. A single new item. A new armor set. Costumes. A house. A character who is technically already on the disc that I just paid $60 for.

Horse Armor.

I remember when Fallout NV was about to come out. Depending on where you pre-ordered it, you would get a special set of items at the start of the game. There were different packages, and some of the items contained were exclusive to that retailer. PC solution? A mod that put all the exclusive items together into one set.

No idea why people are complaining about Hearthfire. These are probably the same people who complain about the hats in TF2.

It's a DLC that allows you to build your own home in Skyrim. There's nothing really amazing or groundbreaking about it, nothing that would force or compel the players to really NEED to have it. It's just sort of there in case you want it.

Surely there are other things these people could be talking about? Like releasing the Unofficial Patches for the consoles or something else that brings the wonders of the mod community to the console community for free?

Its great to know then that HEarthfire isn't just one thing like horse armor.

It adds
-13 new NPCs
-27 different houses that you can make in 3 locations
-Many new food items and recipes
-New marriage and adoption features along with a slew of new actions that our wife/child can do.
-New pets including foxes, frostbite spiders, mudcrabs, rabbits, and skeevers.

Hearthfire has enough house combinations to equal to 27 different house mods.

Also, all those mods you linked to, don't offer anywhere near the same level of customization as Hearthfire does.
