Because it could be so much more, because most of its features have already been done by modders and better.
Well good for the PC master race then. I guess us console users should just be left in the cold then.

I play it on PC and I haven't bought it, mainly because I don't want to build my own house and spend the 5 bucks on a mod to do that as well as adopt a kid. Frankly, I have all my house needs fulfilled with Dovakhiin Hideout and Soul Forge. That being said, I am definitely not complaining about Hearthfire. One of my friends refuses to use any mods, mostly because he doesn't really know how, and this is amazing in his eyes. I've used most of the house mods on Nexus, but seeing Hearthfire on his computer I am of the opinion that the mods don't really come anywhere close to the DLC. Yes, it was all done before, but it was never done as well. You're paying for quality with this.

In Skyrim I want to do cool fantasy adventure shit.

I don't want to run a household. I do that in real life. That shit is fucking boring.

If you seriously want to play a game and spend your time in game cooking...buy Cooking Mama not Skyrim.

Its horse armor period, a worthless little thing to spend money on. Find a mod that does the same thing. We can't let companies get away with crap like this anymore.
I totally didn't let them get away with it because I didn't buy it.

Try it sometime. Not buying things is amazingly empowering!

It does a much better job than any mod I have seen in adding proper customisable housing, and the adoption options were also great. The problem with trying to achieve these things with lots of mods is that they often don't work well together, but Hearthfire averts this.

I personally enjoyed it and considered it worth the price, but wouldn't tell anyone else that it is essential or worth their money.

I'm pretty sure they'll end up removing mod support before they get rid of DLC. Or make mod support cost money...

There's hate on Hearthfire? Really? I thought it was great. Nowhere near as good as I hoped it'd be, but it's still a nice thing to have. And it's about as pricey as a broken twig.

Yeah, you can get it with mods, but console players don't have mods, and Bethesda can a better, more stable job. Deal. With it. People. If you don't want it, don't buy it. There's DLC out there far more worthy of your hate. And they couldn't give it out for free, Microsoft doesn't allow it. Just because we play on consoles doesn't mean we don't deserve some nice extras, even if we have to pay for them with the money we could make selling the dust off our furniture.

This was my thought process.

Front of Head: Oh wow! Hearthfire is on Steam! $5! We should buy it!
Back of Head: What's in Hearthfire?
FH: You build a house!
BH: And?
FH: That's it, kinda...
BH: Aren't there mods on Nexus that give you houses for free?
FH: ...
BH: ...
FH: You're right. Fuck this shit!
By that logic all DLC/expansions are pointless because mods do everything from new armor, weapons, characters, and quests for free.
Well, with mods this seems to be a common thought process.

From what Ive heard, it wasnt all that impressive. But I cant see to much wrong about it other than that.

Doesnt matter to me though, as Im waiting for the GotY edition with all the DLC before I buy Skyrim for my PC.

I don't hate it. But I certainly don't need it. It's developed for consoles because they don't have mods like the PC. A house that I built using the Creation Kit is far better than anything Heartfire can produce. And if you can't make your own, there's plenty to choose from Steam Workshop or Skyrim Nexus.

while its the PC modding community that keeps sales going long term, its why people still play and make mods for morrowind and oblivion today.
i agree with everything you posted except this, i can see how it extend the lifespan of a game, but i don't see how modding helps sales?

and i would really like to see the CK for consoles or something simpler and similar, for some reason i believe that it would force them to develop something a lot more stable than what we have now. the CK feels dated slow and un-responsive
To be honest modding has a small possibility of helping sales, but not by much. For example i used to have oblivion for 360, then after 2 disks i got a steam sale for the pc and modded oblivion. Now if for some mods i need a content dlc, such as maps, areas, or even shivering isles to get other mods i want to try. Then i would have incentive to buy the dlc.

OT: hearthfire dlc doesn't even look like it's worth $5 dollars compared to the stuff someone can get for free and a few hours of modding. If it was say $2.50 usd i'd have no complaints, but $5 probably just feels unappealing to modding pc gamers.

This is not a counter-argument.

This is fail.

By default you are wrong.

I bought Hearthfire because I like Skyrim, I like Bethesda, and I want to do my part to keep them in business. And if I get some nifty gameplay bonuses in the process of supporting one of my favorite giant evil faceless corporations, so much the better.

I also bought Dawnguard for much the same reason.

Really? People are attacking hearthfire? I think it?s pretty pointless tbh, especially for a pc gamer but I don?t see why it would anger anyone. It wasn?t advertised as a big epic expansion and you don't have to buy it. If they lied about what is was then it would be an issue but I don't think they did.

I don't understand why most of you people are so aggressive about this. OP just wanted opinions, he didn't want to be screamed at because "ur so stoopid, 4 boughting teh DLC that i dont like!!1!" Is it really that hard to state your opinions in a less confrontational manner?

OT: I can see why PC gamers wouldn't be big on Hearthfire, but it seems like a wonderful thing for console gamers who don't have access to mods.

Its great to know then that HEarthfire isn't just one thing like horse armor.

It adds
-13 new NPCs
-27 different houses that you can make in 3 locations
-Many new food items and recipes
-New marriage and adoption features along with a slew of new actions that our wife/child can do.
-New pets including foxes, frostbite spiders, mudcrabs, rabbits, and skeevers.

Hearthfire has enough house combinations to equal to 27 different house mods.

Also, all those mods you linked to, don't offer anywhere near the same level of customization as Hearthfire does.
By your logic Tundra Defense is infinite house mods. Just sayin'.

Though my personal favorite house mod ATM is Dawnspire, which is, well, kind of awesome, even if you make a point not to learn the Dawnspire spells (though on one character I Imprisoned the Orsimer chief from Mephala's quest just because the thought of having him tortured to death seemed soooo sweet, since he wasn't worth my time to just kill, and the necromancer *loves* his work).

Judging by many of the opinions and lack of respect displayed here, it seems Bethesda shot themselves in the foot by releasing the editor. Hopefully they won't make that mistake with the next game.

Why all the heat for Hearthfire? Because my adopted daughter is walking around the house without any clothes on even though we live on top of a goddamn mountain and it's constantly snowing. I don't care if she's a Nord and my character is a lesbian werewolf with a bad habit of shouting people off of cliffs or bridges, put some fucking clothes on Runa! I swear it's like Kodomo no Jikan crossed over with The Elder Scrolls.

Oh, there are also some patches needed. Display cases in homesteads don't seem to work properly, and i can't get my wife Mjoll the Lioness to dress up in leather and bend over. What? Kids walking around in their underwear is fine and there's a constant implication that powerful vampire females were raped by Molag Bol but we can't have a consenting relationship between two adult mortals? And why can't i marry any Khajiit? I can't roleplay myself in Skyrim if i can't get the character hot over women with animal ears!

And it's not like sex scenes in games are completely forbidden. In EA's game The Sims 3 you can use mind control powers to knock up everyone in your neighborhood, so why can't Skyrim just imply that my lesbian ninja sniper is having Mjoll go down on her?

Probably because most people say it's actually worse than most of the Home mods people have made, and mods are free.

I haven't played Hearthfire or used any house mods, so I can't say.
