Though I would like to point out that all my hate goes to Sasuke I mean he doesn't really do anything.
I join you in your hate to Sasuke, but since the time skip half the series is being about him, first the whole snake team thing, the orochimaru fight, deidara fight, itachi fight, and recently the kage summit arc, wich had like five more fight including danzo, sure he is despicable but is not fair to say that he doesnt do anithing (he does TO MUCH if you ask me)

Something about an obnoxiously loud teenager shouting for a good amount of the time dressed in an orange jump suit doesn't exactly scream ninja to me.
The whole concept would have been far more appealing to me had they were called heroes instead of ninjas.

I never loved it. The big reason is because of Naruto himself. I hate him. He's really annoying and childish, even when he's "grown up." Sakura's a prick and Sasuke's emo to the point of nausea. The only character I really liked was Kakashi, and apparently, the anime cut out the best part of his story. Thanks for that animators. Thanks.

The stories are boring and a bit repeatitive really. And I really just didn't care for it ever.
Bleach hits me in the same way.

I see your point but look at it this way.

He beat orochimaru when he was at is utmost weakest, would not have beaten deidra without orochimarus power and you know him blowing up, did not beat itachi because well he just kicked the bucket mid fight because of a terminal disease. So that pretty much just leaves Danzo as a legit win really, Naruto seems to winning when it comes to a kill count.

So maybe doesn't do anything is a bad way of describing the fact he only seems to win out of technicalities

Mostly because its so damn big, and I personally don't think it really deserves the popularity it has. All this mechandising and crap for a sub-par anime with way too many episodes for its own good.

I've seen plenty of animes now, and both Bleach and Naruto have a common reason why I think they're stupid. The fanbase.

Everytime I see someone complimenting one of the two, they are usually under the age of 16, as well as they haven't really watched anything else. So you get "HURR NARUTO IS TEH BEST ANIME EVAR" crap from someone who has yet to even really watch anything else that is recognised as better from the community. And I'm pretty sure its these people that are the cause of such a high popularity level for this series; people swearing by an anime that they have nothing to compare to.

Of course, there are people that are exceptions to this, but you take the largest part of the bell curve don't you?

But yeah, my biggest problem with it is that its more successful than it deserves to be.

That, and in a half shell, off course.

I like naruto itself, but I do get annoyed when every battle follows the same formula:

Good guy vs bad guy, bad guy spouts off nihilistic, egotist worldview and how friends are for weaklings and the only true way to live is to single-mindedly pursue power and kill everyone.

Good guy gets disturbed, spouts off stock "friends are my strength!" and pulls out awesome kick-ass move to uplifting music.

Music stops, is replaced by sinister music as bad guy calmly stands up, calls good guy worthless and shows off low-level to them, but high-level to everyone else Jutsu that nullifies good guy's attack.

Bad guy bewilderingly obliges with a detailed medical explanation of the exact workings of their powers, even if they are literally in the middle of a strike.

Good guy gets mashed up, but tries again with new power, either a more powerful move, or a weird trick. Usually accompanied by agonizing emo bit where the good guy gives in to pure rage and anger as opposed to acting ninja-like and remaining calm and focused.

Bonus: good guy bewilderingly obliges with a detailed medical explanation of the exact workings of their powers, even if they are literally in the middle of a strike.

repeat all the above steps until bad guy dies, gives up or converts. For additional bonus points, replace "bad guy" or "good guy" with "concerned onlooker" whenever a detailed explanation of a Jutsu is needed.

Again, I still like Naruto and I agree the English dub is awful, especially Naruto's voice.

I'm not really an anime fan, though I enjoy some, but I can't stand Naruto, it very much seems like the quintessential bad anime. It doesn't help that the source material isn't very good either. Forget the poor dub and the mindless filler, the series itself is the very worst of vapid shounen nonsense. Convoluted nonsensical plots with twists pulled out of thin air, that's why I can't stand Naruto.

I stopped caring about it when it basically became Dragon Ball Z. Sage Mode? Really?

Just to be clear yes I do watch Naruto butI don't defend the show from those who hate it (it got its flaws).

Well first thing the character Naruto is not a likeable character since he is too annoying in a bad way. That itself can put people off from watching anymore since he is the main character after all.

Also this sum pretty well to why some people hate it (I wish they show the rest of that bit)

Those 100 filler episodes in Nartuo were god awful (I can't believe that I actually watch all of it) however it's thanks to that we didn't had too many fillers in Shipudden per say. While I still dislike the fillers in Shipudden but at least those fillers are more relevent to the manga since it act as the inbetween in the manga plots.

I used to enjoy reading the manga, but the anime is pretty terrible. The "Believe it" line is infamous despite the fact he doesn't utter it once in the manga :/

Up to the end of the chuunin exams the series as a whole is pretty kick ass but kishimoto realizes he's good at fight scenes so he has tons of them (repetitive) and tons of lead up to each one (boring). I started to miss the social tension presented in the first few volumes and questioning of purpose and morals.

Naruto's golden days were short but pretty damn good. One Piece has been on so long I've grown bored of it. Despite this Hajime no ippo which is nearing it's 1000th chapter has never even came close to losing my interest, because the pacing and character development is excellent, the fact it's ridiculously funny helps as well.

Generally unless a manga/anime is exceptionally good consistently I tend to lose interest by 200 chapters or so.

I know threads about why someone else does or doesn't like something I do or don't like are abundant, but this is one I just really don't understand, and I'd be interested to know why. Personally, it?s not my favorite anime, but I love it anyway. It?s a fantastic coming-of-age story with interesting, strategic battles and well-developed characters that are easy to care deeply about.

It?s fine not to like it, of course; you are entitled to your tastes. But the anime community seems to largely consider Naruto the quintessential example of a terrible, overrated anime, like it?s the cool thing to hate, and I just don?t understand that.

A common complaint I?ve heard is about the filler, but the fact is this is not sufficient reason to decry the show?s quality, mainly because it is simply the lesser of two evils. Shows like Full Metal Alchemist and Death Note, while both amazing shows, amount to disappointing endings because they just did their own thing when they caught up with the manga. Naruto instead takes the approach of making a filler arc when it catches up to the manga on which it?s based, in order to let the manga get ahead enough for the anime to adapt it. Filler is necessary in order to keep the show running while allowing the show to still follow the story of its source material. That?s far better than just going off on its own and eventually ending disappointingly.

Beyond that, if you hate the filler, skip it. The rest of the show is great, even if some of the filler really isn?t; something such as filler, which is made specifically so it can be easily skipped, simply does not speak to the quality of the show as a whole.

I?ve heard plenty about the constant flashbacks and monologues, but it?s really only a little more excessive than most everything that comes out of Japan. They love that stuff. When a character realizes something important, or has a moment of self-reflection, they will monologue about it. That?s how it works; the vast majority of anime and JRPGs consist largely of this inner dialogue. So I don?t understand how this can be an argument against one particular show without being an argument against the entire artistic culture (which I think we can all agree would be a bit ethno-centric).

These are just my thoughts; anyone care to share what it is that apparently makes this show so terrible?

EDIT: The English dub is also a weak argument (though it is awful). Don't complain if what amounts to an American vocal adaptation is sub-par, just watch the original.
I don't think I qualify as someone who either likes it or hates it, I'd really have to try it first (I kinda want to now)

But, speaking from some experience from people who do like it and people who don't like it, I feel it's only on account of taste regarding the whole "Ninja" thing.

I'm not really keen on it, but I tend to like more realistic interpretations of ninjas, as in the ones you read about in history books, as opposed to kids who are still learning and use magic, yadda yadda. I'm guessing other people may feel the same way. Granted, I love unrealistic ninja stuff: games like Ninja Gaiden, but people often lean towards the more violent look. Naruto looks like kid stuff to some people, I guess.

It's also something mainstream enough that people can use it to critisize "Otaku". I think outsiders just don't find it appealing, and cite as a way to attack fans in a negative way.

This is just me theorizing, I really wish I knew the answer almost as much as you do.

I don't like Naruto mostly because it's story and characters are either cliche or badly flawed.

I HATE Naruto in the abstract because of how much popular it is in America compared to the far superior One Piece. But then again, Bleach is also more popular than One Piece, too, and it's also been going downhill too, so whatever.

I think Naruto is just an easy target for people to hate on because it's popular and has been popular for a long time. And people like me, who've been watching it since the first year or so can come to regard it like older folks do a favorite soap opera. It's just always been there and the characters are likable and familiar. Like comfy old clothes.
Personally I fell behind because I couldn't find anyplace good to watch them, but that's okay. It solves the pacing problem because when I come back I can watch a whole bunch in a row instead of week-to-week.
But I do demand subtitled versions, the English ones are scrubbed and unwatchable.
