Why all the hate when I say I don't like the Beatles?

I think the main reason why the Beatles are still so popular is (a)nostalgia and (b) they aren't too nichy. And by "nichy" I mean a lot of people can appreciate their music without having an "aquired taste". Plus their style changed over time, so that's even more potential fans.

Although always saying that "The Beatles are the best band in the world period" is really stupid. Yeah they were influential, of that there is no doubt, but that doesn't make them "the best". Hitler Stalin (avoiding Godwin's law there, barely...) was very influential, doesn't mean that he was "the best" leader in the world. Plus you can't say that any one band was "the best". Music is subjective and people could absolutely hate the Beatles. I generally like my Rock and Metal on the harder side and the Beatles do not deliver on that. So I don't really listen to them that much. And although I do enjoy listening to some of their songs when I'm in the right mood, there aren't that many of them.

I love the Beatles and yes those people are idiots.
Whenever someone tells me that they don't like the Beatles, or their not great or "OMG, THE BEATLES ARE YOU FUCKING GAY!" I just brush it off. People who worship them are stupid. Yes the were great, and yes they were some of the most innovative musicians ever but they weren't gods. Just keep listening to what you wana listen to. And why would your friend get rid of the Stones, are they crazy.

Hehe. As was I, though I do love the Beatles.
Can't stand Elvis though <<

OT: yeah, I'm just going to go with everyone else here and say that you know a whole lot of assholes who can't comprehend anyone with an opposing opinion to their own.

You don't consider The Beatles to be rock n rock? And you actually take yourself and your opinion on music seriously?

I had a friend who was such a Beatles fan he believed they invented rock in roll. When I pointed out the real greats Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Elvis Presley , and Jerry Lee Lewis he actually argued they copied off of the Beatles. Going so far to say no American could ever take genres of music that originated in the U.S and combine them to get Rock'n'Roll.

I used to like the Beatles until i really got into music theory. Their songs are so simple and the chord progressions are almost always the same! A 4 chord song with simple lyrics about love is their trademark....

While this may be good in small doses, they just overdid it.
(I also hate simple songs)

Anyway you're not alone!
My theory instructor broke down some of Lennon's work to demonstrate otherwise. :p

First: A friend and I were making a list of our top 10 bands, when I showed him mine and he saw the Beatles weren't on the list he immediatley erased The Rolling Stones from the #1 position and wrote "THE BEATLES!!!!" just like that and he hasn't talked to me in a few days.
I suspect that one was a joke. There used to be a bit of a feud between the Beatles and the Stones - which was more of a marketing campaign than anything else. They actually corroborated quite a bit.

The thing about the Beatles is, it's an easy band. The Beatles are "safe." They've been mainstream long enough that everyone knows they're good. Everyone tolerates them. It doesn't take a lot of taste to pick up a Beatles album.

It's like when you ask someone what their favorite painting is and they say the Mona Lisa. It's a sort of tell of lack of exploration.

The Beatles are by far my favorite band, however I know everyone has their own specific tastes. Just as I cannot stand Kenny G and his ilk, some people don't like the Fab Four. And that's perfectly fine. Music, being such an ephemeral art form, is interpreted through much more than mere listening; there's emotional, spiritual, and situational connections that we attach to these noises that give them a personal meaning to us.

Sadly, this isn't the first I've heard of nutjob Beatles Fanboys. When I've encountered these over-zealous creeps, I usually remind them that they're idiots if they think everyone LOVES the Beatles. And then I steer the conversation to something far less cataclysmic, say the outrageous prices at the gas pump. It sounds as though you can't escape these particular people in your normal day-to-day life, and unless their behavior is completely intolerable, you shouldn't. Dicks will always be dicks. Fanboys will be fanboys.

It seems many people here are attempting to give you a rundown on Rock history. But if it doesn't interest you, just ignore it and move on. However, I would recommend taking a second listen to one of their later albums, like Abbey Road or Let It Be, for curiosity's sake. You might end up liking them.

Hmz people get weird over bands sometimes but that's just crazy. As for the beatles not being "rock", you should really check out the white album (or this youtube link)

Alright, first let me say I don't hate the Beatles, "All You Need Is Love" is one of my favorite songs, I just don't like the Beatles in general, and lately a few of my friends and a teacher are kind of being jackasses to me because I don't like the Bealtles.

First: A friend and I were making a list of our top 10 bands, when I showed him mine and he saw the Beatles weren't on the list he immediatley erased The Rolling Stones from the #1 position and wrote "THE BEATLES!!!!" just like that and he hasn't talked to me in a few days.

Second: A lady-friend of mine heard from my list-changing friend that I didn't like them and she started acting like I was a retard, she actually said "Who do you think you are? The Beatles are the greatest band in the world and you ought to know that,".

Third: When I told a teacher of mine (at another time and school) that I didn't like the Beatles she got this shocked look on her face like I had just told her Father Christmas just broke into her house and stole all her jewelry, she was litterally speechless for about a minute.

So, Beatles fans, are you all this insane? Are my two friends and the one teacher just wierdos?

OT: I also don't see how the Beatles are considered Rock n Roll, what happened to Sex, Drugs, and Rock n Roll? Rock used to be about trannies with giant hair and switchblades and motorbikes.
Anyone who says the Beatles are better than the stones is a dumbass anyway I wouldn't want to be associated with them.

Wouldn't "The Beatles were a great band" make more sense? Last time I checked they weren't together still.

OT: Well people just really liked the beatles and I haven't really met anyone who has a overwhelming love for everything they did... except for my friend who is sitting opposite me :).

Just tell them its your opinion and no amount of shocked looks, silly actions and attempts at insulting you are going to change it.

1. Listen to the rest of The Beatles. Not the shitty popular songs like "All You Need is Love".

2. Listen to the lyrics; relate them to your own life.

3. Realize how timelessly relevant and thought provoking a good majority of the songs are, and how that isn't really true about most of the other music you listen to.

4. Admit they are one fucking hell of a band.

Extra Credit: (Repeat with Bob Dylan and Neil Young)

You deserve an internet high five or something. I don't have a problem with the Beatles or Elvis, and I do appreciate older music and what they did as far as influence, but The Beach Boys' music was more my style.

I'd possibly dare to say the Beatles are, in my opinion the greatest pop band ever. However everyone's entitled to their opinion, and, if you don't like pop, and only listen to say, jazz music, then no amount of Beatles is going to sway you.

I'd say the Stones are ... well up there in terms of importance, I'd hate to rank any of them, but I'd say the Stones did for rock what the Beatles did for pop.

The Beatles, like many bands, also knocked out an awful amount of absolute balls too, but that's swept under the carpet and forgotten about decades later when it's mainly the famous albums and the Greatest Hits CDs that anyone really knows.

In fact, there's nothing to say Justin Bieber won't mature after puberty hits and find himself to be amazingly talented singer/songwriter. It's unlikely , sure, but it's possible.
After all, he's just doing what he's told now, being marketed to a teen audience and being told what to do, how to look, and what to sing. It's just faintly possible there's a creative genius they won't let be seen in case the complexities of his ideas scare off the little girls.

Once he's cashed in his millions, he could get a new name, new image and restart.

To quote a more suitable example, anyone remember the horrors of the New Kids on the Block?
Cash in Boy Band of the worst kind., disappeared into obscurity...except one of them returned.

Returned as Mark Wahlberg, appearing in Boogie Nights and Three Kings (and I admit a whole heap of crappy movies too). Who's to say someone else couldn't recover from a dodgy early career and come good?

Thank you for stating my feelings in a way I had been struggling to narrow down to. The Beatles were good song-writers and penned some insanely catchy pop/rock, but their formula has been copied so much that by this point they're not dangerous or daring, just the originators of modern pop-rock.

I would imagine that because the Beatles is perhaps one of the most revolutionizing bands in history.

However, just because you don't like them doesn't mean you're hated, you just have bad taste.
I hate to pull this, but you know what was also revolutionary once? The wheel. But that doesn't mean you have to wet your pants with glee every time you look at a car.
