Why all the hate when I say I don't like the Beatles?

When I say I don't like The Beatles people literally fall into tears. Ahhhhh Real Monsters had the best joke I've ever seen directed towards The Beatles.

I know a Beatle fan that is kinda on the thin line of insanity when it comes to saying anything off color when it comes to talking of them. I just think maybe it is that these people have more than a love for a bands music and now it's borderline obsession/passion. Thank goodness we all have different tastes, or else I'd be listening to and liking the kind of music my 14yr. old brother loves. :p

I like the Beatles okay enough. Let It Be is a pretty good album, and the White Album isn't too bad either, however, I'm not a fan of their earlier music. I thought too, maybe it has much to do with what your parents listend to we are growing up? Kids are pretty impressionable at a young age, and for most, music can connect our feelings of better times as we remember what our lives were like when our music was introduced to us. For instance, I never really liked The B-52's, but "Love Shack" can bring me back to a wonderful time in my life. So now I really can't say I don't like the B-52's. =)

Even if you don't like the Beetles music you have to like what the did in the studio. The revolutionized a lot of the modern techniques and effects used in the studio leading to a big boom in music production over the years.

I for one don't like the majority of their work but I do idolize and respect them as a group that could be seen as a father or grand-father of the modern recording age.

Wait a minute... what part of The Beatles' lifestyle didn't encompass sex, drugs and rock and roll? They may have been made out to have a ``family friendly'' image (especially with the contrast between them and The Stones), but that wasn't who they really were.

I love The Beatles, and I might act with suprise when I meet someone who doesn't like them (most people do, it's rare to meet people who don't), but I wouldn't be a dick about it.

I don't get people with their music tastes. No one's that defensive with their food tastes. "OMG! YOU DON'T LIKE BANANAS?! You need to be more open minded, man."

Christ, I hate people who pull the 'open mind' card.

I intensely dislike the Beatles.

I know that sounds silly. Some of their songs are okay, but most of them I find to be very poor pieces of music.
More than that, though, I hate their general image. I don't know why. My dad is a big fan of them so I have heard quite a few of their songs.

People seem to be frequently perplexed that I don't like them, which makes it seem like I am being different for the sake of being different, but I was honestly convinced that The Beatles were generally disliked by the world, and were a minority ye olde band that my poorly-music-tasted father liked. How wrong I was.

I shall never understand why people like them. That said, I'm not intolerant of people who like them, but I can't listen to their stuff. It's all so... Uninspired.

Uhm, I'm ever changing when it comes to music taste, I of course have some old favorites along the way, but no particular songs or bands I'd go batshit crazy over.

I don't really care for the Beatles, I suppose they're good but there are other good bands too.

I would imagine that because the Beatles is perhaps one of the most revolutionizing bands in history.

However, just because you don't like them doesn't mean you're hated, you just have bad taste.
So you are suggesting I have bad taste because I dont like a certain band? music is subjective, or people like things that you dont.

OT: Most people like the Beatles because they are one of the biggest socially accepted groups.

I completely understand. I get that all the time for my (irrational?) hatred of the Beatles.
Yes, they were revolutionary for their time. Yes, they were brilliant songwriters and creative geniuses...
But I personally hate them and that god damn yellow submarine bullshit. That song... It's one of the few things that enrages me, and I'm a generally amicable person. Like, seriously. I rarely hate on anything, ever...
But I hate that song so much that I kind of hate them by extension, with very few exceptions song-wise. People think I'm nuts.
I've been met with similar responses to this, i.e. "You just don't get it! It's symbolic! You clearly don't know how to appreciate good music! They have plenty of other songs, you can't judge an entire band for one song, etc." and I'm always like "Whatever. I don't care. I hate submarines."
Ugh. >.<

Alright, first let me say I don't hate the Beatles, "All You Need Is Love" is one of my favorite songs, I just don't like the Beatles in general, and lately a few of my friends and a teacher are kind of being jackasses to me because I don't like the Bealtles.

First: A friend and I were making a list of our top 10 bands, when I showed him mine and he saw the Beatles weren't on the list he immediatley erased The Rolling Stones from the #1 position and wrote "THE BEATLES!!!!" just like that and he hasn't talked to me in a few days.

Second: A lady-friend of mine heard from my list-changing friend that I didn't like them and she started acting like I was a retard, she actually said "Who do you think you are? The Beatles are the greatest band in the world and you ought to know that,".

Third: When I told a teacher of mine (at another time and school) that I didn't like the Beatles she got this shocked look on her face like I had just told her Father Christmas just broke into her house and stole all her jewelry, she was litterally speechless for about a minute.

So, Beatles fans, are you all this insane? Are my two friends and the one teacher just wierdos?

OT: I also don't see how the Beatles are considered Rock n Roll, what happened to Sex, Drugs, and Rock n Roll? Rock used to be about trannies with giant hair and switchblades and motorbikes.
First off I'm surpised you got such a hostile reaction - where do you live 0.o?

Anyway The Beatles are one of my favourite groups of all time like you say you even have a fave song by them. I think they wrote really good music that almost anyone can enjoy and they had a massive impact on popular culture. Never again will there be such a fervour of excitement about music as there was amongst the youth in the 1960's. The market is far to fractured with so many sub genres. If you watch the Beatles playing a concert in 1964 in America its absolutely amazing people are having what could be compared to a religious experience people are weeping or collapsing on the floor.

Anyway I respect your right to like the music you like and I also love the Rolling Stones and pretty much any other rock band of the 1960's - early 1990's with a few exceptions into the noughties like The Gaslight Anthem <3 who take after my all time favourite artist Bruce Springsteen.

It might not change your mind but have a listen to these if you would be so kind:

I don't dislike the Beatles, and I never got any 'heat' so to speak, but my friends were a little appalled that I didn't know many of their songs (they all did). "WHAT?! You don't know *blah blah*. What?! You don't have a favorite Beatles song"

I cried on the inside a little bit. T_T

"Everyone in the world has an opinion

"Except yours is stupid."

-Some person I forgot

Well, disregard the second line, but apply it to all people you meet.

Oh, and your friend's kind of... jerkish, doing that.
