Not as much objection as I am wondering. Serious Sam has been bringing the same straight humour into shooters since 2001, and for that matter development started around the same time DNF was supposed to, so it's been filling Duke's shoes for ages. DNF isn't bringing anything back - those of us who wanted it could play the game that was in every major video card benchmark for at least 5 years.Frozen Donkey Wheel2 said:Actually, I did. Just saying.
You also only read the title.Nouw said:Because it's been in production for a long time, been put on life support, went to the grave and returned shining, heavily speculated and it's Duke Nukem.
Imagine a game being cancelled (it was right?) and in a constant pattern of this for 10 years and then it's finally going to be released! I'm sure you can understand that right?
Really? I didn't know anyone who didn't love both Quake and Duke Nukem 3D. Shado Warrior was less well known, but I didn't really see any sort of debates crop up until Unreal showed up saying it was going to kick Quake 2's ass (it did, although by then everyone cared more about online deathmatches).Lusty said:Back in 96/97, the prevailing fanboy debate was between people who liked Duke Nukem and people who liked Quake. It came just after the whole SF2 versus MK2 hubbub.
It was way worse than the console wars of today. For the record, Quake sucked ;-)
And you also didn't read the first post. Jeez.fjelding said:I dont really get all the hubbub. Its a game with a rather lengthy development time.
Dont get me wrong, ive play all the Duke Nukem games and I love them to bits. Duke Nukem 3D moste of all. Hours and hours of one-liner fun (back then anyways).
What im hopeing is, that DNF will show that not all shooters need to be super serious like MW and BF. (I realize that these games like TimeShift and Singularity out there, but FUN games? I remember them as being really pretty games but not laughing while playing them)
It's freaking fun to blast a super hog in the face with a shotgun and then the Duke goes, "Makin' Bacon" or what ever.
I guess what im trying to say is, i'd like to see a return of the games that let you do rocket jumps and the like, and DFN (I hope) is a step in that direction.
Damn, I guess this did turn in to a screaming fanboy rant after all -.-
I did read the first post, just please retort. I have no idea what you're saying.migo said:Not as much objection as I am wondering. Serious Sam for fuck's sake. It's been here all along. Did everyone only play Duke Nukem 3D because you could press spacebar to see pixelated titties? That's about all SSTFE is missing...
migo said:Serious Sam already took over Duke Nukem's shoes ages ago, and development is actually continuing by the original devs. Sure, DNF's vapourware status has been a funny running joke, but it's not like it'll bring back a style of gaming that is otherwise nonexistant in the dreary field of brown shooters.
serious sam is nothing, compared to duke nukem. serious sam was a poster hero for a game engine advertisement.migo said:Yes, I get all that, and Serious Sam does all that.
agree.Alpha1089 said:When I was growing up I played Quake and Doom, and then along came Duke with his incredibly funny one-liners and evil aliens to crush beneath his mighty boot. Or even his dual-wielded mighty boot, one of the most retarded and hilarious melee combinations I have ever seen.
He's Duke FUCKING Nukem! I myself am fully looking forwards to what will hopefully be another politically incorrect shooter filled with tits and alien blood. I have no problem with all the brown shooters, but something which sticks its middle finger up to the PC-brigade will be a welcome distraction.
