I personally, like his acting, I think the Escapist hates him bacause he represenst how a nerd (like us) would fare in strange situations.
Doubtful.

I really don't think nerds in general are as awkward and Micheal Cera-like as you may believe.

That being said, I don't HATE Micheal Cera...I'm really just indifferent towards him. As long as he continues to exclusively play the awkward teenager role, he won't be getting any respect from my end.
He plays characters that are pathetic socially awkward and limp wristed. His type cast roles and his carefully constructed/managed screen persona is that of a 'nerd's nerd'. Point is a lot of young guys in that target demographic resent the fact that Cera has been deleigated by a handful of studio execs somewhere in hollywood as their sole and constant REPRESENTATIVE.

For as long as Cera plays 'dial-a-nerd' in movies that simotaneously strive for the nerd market at the same time as talking down to it, the backlash from within against him will continue.

It's not his fault of course. He's just a schmuck trying to make a buck like the rest of us. But the dude and his 'people' need to wise up fast...at the moment he's clearly the fast fading flavour of the month... Shit and vanilla. And no one's buying it any more. LOL

No, Katanas were used by Ninjas, the Samurais Mortal Enemy, while Samurais used Samurai Swords. Katanas were just based in the Samurai Sword.

I think.
anime is not history. video games are not history. everything you just said was incorrect.

"The katana (刀?) is Japanese for backsword and often refers to the uchigatana after the Muromachi period, which is a type of Japanese sword (日本刀, nihontō?), also commonly referred to as a "samurai sword.[1]

In the strictest sense, the term katana in Japanese is applied to any kind of single-edged sword, of any origin, and does not necessarily refer to a Japanese sword.

"Katana" was originally used as a general term for a single-edged sword having a "sori" or curvature of the blade. While the "sugata" or form can take many shapes, including double edged, the term is now used incorrectly to describe nihontō that are 2 shaku (606 mm / 24 in) and longer, also known as "dai" or "daito" among Western sword enthusiasts"

(taken from the goddamned wikipedia page, one google search away.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katana )

'ninja' swords had straight blades. the word 'katana' implies a curved blade.

ninja and samurai were not mortal enemies.

please read more real books.
Hold the phone and mayo. Ninjas were farmers that were pretty much pushed around by Samurais, and they eventually got tired of their shit and countered. I know this for a fuckin' fact. Even if I put it in a really stupid way.
Your 'fuckin' facts' are fuckin' flawed.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ninja

"A ninja or shinobi (忍者 or 忍び?) was a covert agent or mercenary of feudal Japan specializing in unorthodox arts of war. The functions of the ninja included espionage, sabotage, infiltration, and assassination, as well as open combat in certain situations.[1] The ninja, using covert methods of waging war, were contrasted with the samurai, who had strict rules about honor and combat.[2]"

'Contrasted' does not mean 'mortal enemy'. Further, it does not even mean 'at odds with', nor 'enemies of.'
Ninjas used 'dishonorable' methods, Samurai obeyed a strict code of honor.
This is a far, far cry from "Samurai pushed farmers around until they became ninja and fought back."

There were not any Ninja vs Samurai wars. Ever. By any stretch of the imagination.

Read more books, watch less anime.
