This could go on for a long time.
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button was a good way of applying a well known formula with enough difference to make it interesting. It included brilliant acting and good costume work as well.

The Wrestler while I haven't seen personally is widely regarded as the best of modern sports comeback movies.

Milk was a brilliant movie on how a person with different views (in this case sexuality) managed to overcome adversity and help people similar to him. It was a brilliant feel good film.

I don't know The Visitor, Changeling or The Reader.

Frost/Nixon was an in-depth look into a controversial topic (namely Nixon himself and his shenanigans) which focused on allowing modern audiences to see a scandal from the Cold War era/

Slumdog Millionaire was not an innovative movie however it was carried by good casting, good acting and sheer emotion.

I ask you which movies from the year deserve a title more than these in your opinion.

I used that last part to show its all opinion and in this case its a majority Versus you. However I'm guessing you were bored by them since they weren't action-y?

On that list I have seen:

Slumdog Millionaire
Changling
The wrestler

All of which were fine films, I'd actually like you to name faults with them instead of saying "these films are bad because I say so"...

Let me guess...you think the latest Transformers film is good?

All those films you mentioned are really good. If you can't stay interested in a film that doesn't have an action scene or stupid humour then you don't get movies as an art form.

Just because you don't enjoy a movie, that doesn't mean it's bad, as you seem to believe. If you could provide an explanation for why you think these movies are bad, that might help explain your point of view.

It's important to note a) who is voting on these films, and b) what is being nominated. You have to actively pursue and lobby for a nomination, it's not something that happens automatically. Obviously, the more high-profile the film, the more likely it is to be nominated, but movie studios campaign pretty damn hard to make sure that the members of the Academy actually see their movie before voting. It's not at all a given.

The Oscars are actually doubling the number of nominees for Best Picture this year, which should help other worthy films get noticed.

It's also a sad truth that the idea of what is "Oscar-worthy" is quite antiquated; it's only in recent years that genre movies, like LOTR have been considered for anything outside of makeup, costuming, and musical honors.

This thread just reminds me of Dogma where 'Muse' is saying that she was responsible for 19 of the 20 highest grossing films of all time and someone had to sell their soul to make Home Alone succeed. 'Bad' films tend to be simpler films that most people can get into, therefore they get the greater following and hence the better rewards.

Although I genuinely do like Titanic and The Reader...

The thing about Oscars (and all awards) is that they have to give the award o someone. They are not going to stop and think, there were no great movies this year, lets not give a best movie award or breakthroug performance, etc. So they give all the awards to the most satisfying movie/actor/actrees/director/script of the year even if they dont really deserve to stay in history as for what they are awarded for.

I wouldn't say that all of these are bad films but I didn't think they were especially great either. The wrestler made me wish the guy would kill himself but the real shining point was the acting. As for Benjamin Button, I never got why people thought it was so fucking great.

It's a lot like how the videos with the most logos at the start get the highest rating and reviews on IGN.

That's just down to opinion though. from what i heard, the wrestler was quite good, and a return to form for micky rourke (i think that's how you spell it), and slumdog millionaire is generally decided to be a great film. In fact, the only one i could say doesn't sound great is the reader, but again, that's just down to opinion.

Ok the more this goes on the more i see myself in a minority, i posted this genually feeling that these films had absolutly no appeal to them, i always seem to see these films with a epic soundtrack or people whispering and being incredibly emotional (Like my sisters keeper) to promote them and they look uniteresting. And to clear a few things up i don't need action in a film to enjoy it, i watched Little Miss Sunshine and enjoyed it, Pop music and rap suck and should be buried under a rock and forgot about and i am no Batman fanboy, i never saw batman Begins, only saw Dark knight once and walked out and skipped 30 mins of it because i was falling asleep.

P.S i did actually like Transformers and i dont see this as a burn.

So apart from Transformers what do you actually like then?

Also what's your beef with Pop and Rap music and how could you fall asleep during the Dark Knight, there is no slow point in that story!

If you think the bad films have been nominated, what films do you think were overlooked? What should be nominated?

I like a lot of different movies, little miss sunshine, advent children, dumb and dumber, sin city, hellboy, i do like to mix and match as i tend to get bored of a genre if i watch to many of them at one time, sort of like when you keep hearing a lot of jokes eventually you stop laughing, or when your walking down the street and godzilla attacks and destroys half the town AGAIN seen one explosion seen them all.

Also i don't know how i could of possibly started to fall asleep whilist watching the dark knight i did it with Watchmen as well but that was because i had recently read the graphic novel and knew what was coming next.

So you don't know why you fell asleep during The Dark Knight yet the way you said it made it seem like you were criticizing the movie.

I hated Little Miss Sunshine but that's just my opinion, I don't claim that it's a rubbish movie as some people, such as yourself like it so it can't be a bad move, just one that doesn't suit my taste which is exactly how you feel about those movies you've mentioned early.

Opinion is different from fact.
