Why are 'casual' games bad?

1: They attract the "Fully Sick, Bro" Crowd.
2: They perpetuate the idea that games are for children, and that challenge is illegal.
3: They are poison to ones attention span.

1: If you mean frat boys, look in the direction of FPSs.
2: People of all ages enjoy the games.
3: I don't think you can argue that 'hardcore' games are much better for that.

1: I meant Lads. They'd be frat boys, but they are too busy beating up gay people. While you make a good point, I know that the ones I have observed enjoy casual games almost as much.

3: Pff. Yes I can, casual games are made for simplicity. They have little to no story, easy gameplay, etc (Meaning I can't think of other examples)
You require a shorter attention span for these than you would in a real game. Like Daggerfall, which I'm playing as we speak.

I don't hate all casual games to be honest, just believe they should be an extra option rather than the mainstream, and I believe thanks to Nintendo they are becoming the mainstream. The quality of casual games themselves are declining as well. Older casual games just seemed to be better, I mean what's better than Tetris?

Because the video game developers focus on making more of the casual games to hit a wider demographic which leave us, the hardcore fanbase, feeling negelcted. (Yes Nintendo, I'm looking at you, now WHEN is that new Zelda coming out?! And make sure there's an option for classic controls!)

It's not that a casual game is inherently bad, although if it doesn't make for a fun party game, chances are it's shovelwear - it's that so much shovelwear exists on the Wii.

Well, 'better' is for the most part a matter of opinion, and it is often a bit clouded by nostalgia. Tetris is a classic game and very addictive, but to say it's 'better' than current generation games is a bit of an overstatement.
