Emos are pathetic whiney teenagers. It's not like goth where their personality has plenty of wiggle room while remaining very stylistic, it's more like "This is the emo persona: Now follow it."

I think a lot of this comes from the fact that I hate 21st century fashion design. It's all so generic and similar, but maybe that's because this is AUSTRALIA so we're actually getting America's Nineties.

That is the first time I've heard Fugazi called emo. Just, no.
Are you retarded? They're the progenitors of the genre. Go look at the Wiki or any number of music encyclopedias.
ok...
I go to Wikipedia and word search for Fugazi under the article emo and they are mentioned twice.

1: "MacKaye and Piccioto, along with Rites of Spring drummer Brendan Canty, went on to form the highly influential Fugazi who, despite sometimes being connected with the term "emo", are not commonly recognized as an emo band."

2:"Drawing inspiration from bands like Jawbreaker, Drive Like Jehu, and Fugazi, the new sound of emo was a mixture of hardcore's passion and indie rock's intelligence, bearing the anthemic power of punk rock and its do-it-yourself work ethic but with smoother songs, sloppier melodies, and yearning vocals."

So the first quote I don't have to touch on. The second says they were an influence to some emo bands. That's very different from being an emo band.

And searching for emo under the Fugazi article...nothing.

To be perfectly honest, I have a few reasons for my dislike, but they all boil down to "get a haircut, you hippies!"
I mean, really, I am surprised that there is a market for that stuff. But then again, im no fashion master myself...

Because they whine and complain about how horrible their lives are yet they're usually upperclass white kids who grew up in the fucking suburbs.

Stop bitching about nothing!!!!

Genres also don't turn into the POLAR OPPOSITE of what they were.
What you have here is a case of Oh shit that totally just happened
Are you siding with me, or saying that I'm wrong?

Honestly, all I've found on this board so far are outright morons and pseudo-intellectual hurpdurps who think they're special, funny, smart unique snowflakes, when they all think the same thing about a subject they're totally ignorant to.
Necro thread huh? I'm am saying that you are totally wrong.

(Bad Example) It would be like saying the swastika did not mean the same thing before the Nazis took control of it, so you go ahead and wear it in public trying to explain that to everyone.

I only see one idiot here.

1. They whine and ***** about their lives, when their lives really aren't that bad.
2. Many consider themselves Goth, or are sometimes mistakenly associated with Goth. This pisses off a lot of people.
3. Lots of goth or semi-goth folks get called Emo as a joke. More anger.
4. SHITTY MUSIC
5. Stupid looks. Such as retarded haircuts (Dyke spikes, anyone?)
6. Resort to doing idiotic things to themselves because of their family issues, such as cutting and eating disorders.
7. Often, all of these problems are coupled with annoying attitudes on trivial things, such as militant veganism and vegetarianism.
8. A prolific hate for themselves, while they obviously try to be "good people" and freak out on people who they think aren't good people, whether their transgression was as insignificant and minor littering or somesuch.
9. They quite commonly identify themselves as bisexual, even if they really aren't. Most prominently featured in the females, but also prevalent in the males.
10. Some people hate them because many of the male ones seem "gay." (I don't care, personally.)

It's funny, most of you say "Oh, let's make fun of them. Blah, blah blah." You guys do realize that most reasons kids cut themselves is because of constantly being hated and made fun of, correct? And not only "emo kids" cut themselves. I know jocks and preps that cut themselves constantly. But no one would call them emo because they don't wear black or show it.

And punks are the anti-conformity people, not really emo kids.

Hello fellow escapists!
A thought just struck me, why do most of us hate emos? They may be down and depressed. But why do we hate those who choose to wear black and dispise the conformus. They are probably the most hated social group, but are they so much worse than us others? I personally don't find them that irritating there are plenty of other people who are way worse...
Ah, well, you seem to have a slight confusion there. People hate emos BECAUSE they're depressed and weepy. Not because they wear black and don't conform to society. People who wear black and don't conform are rebellious and awesome. But depressing people? Ruins the mood, every time. Yes, even an emo wearing shiny colors is irritating, because you act that way.

Because they are whiny little brats that complain about how bad their lives are when other people have it so much worse... I went to school with a bunch of them and one said that all he got was a PS3 for christmas, and that was when they were $800.
This is exactly why I hate emo's. Plus, they're walking stereotypes. Every single stereotype I've heard of for a emo has been true at some point or another. That's never happened for any other clique.

That's actually a clever way of putting it, but Hitler turning the swastika into something evil isn't right, and awareness should be brought up to show that it once meant something different and more pure.

Oh, wow, you're right. I sometimes mix Fugazi up with Rites. Thank you for correcting me. They are melodic hardcore, which is an offshoot of Emo, though.
