Why are emos hated?

Because, in short, they are acceptable targets [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AcceptableTargets], like feminists and furries. It COULD be because some of them are attention whores, but I don't know exactly why. Heres my input. its simple easy and what most people want to ignore.
It's easy to make fun of whatever is different, and to these same people its wrong by them to not be exactly like them. thats what it is. not being whiney or crap, its because people want to sling shit at people and those who are different make easy targets.
as for emos not defending themselves, why the hell would they need to? if they are a genuine emo, you cant throw at them anything worse than they have already experienced. not to mention they realize that the quickest way to get punched is by opening your mouth.

i dont hate anyone unless they can prove to me that they are worth hating, that means i hate indiviuals not groups.
However, i have met people who can be classed as "emo" and i disliked them for the simple fact they are overdramatic whingers, they can complain like their lives suck because their hair was done wrong when there are starving children in africa being besieged by civil war.
But im certain there are many people who can be classed as 'emo' and would be decent human bengs.

I'm sorta emo and I'm not hated for that. I'm hated because I dislike Halo, on an unrelated note I picked up Halo: Reach and it was AAWWEESSOOMMEE!!
I dislike emo "culture" because apparently in our weird world today dressing in dark clothing, winging about how their life is unbearable and genrally acting misanthropic is mistaken with being a tortured and therefore deep person when in reality they are just ungrateful attention whores.
In my line of work I have met people who have been through alot in their lifetime and they dont spend their time writing dark poetry and listening to Linkin Park.

You know, I've been downright depressed for a while. I'm starting to wonder if I'm emo, since my life is kind of awesome and everything, but I hate myself and everyone around me anyway.

edit to clarify: Recreational hating is like hating someone because they're infront of you in line, or you don't like their clothing, it's not the same as justified hatred...and doesn't feel the same either.
I might recreationally hate people for wanky clothing or corny tattoos. But I know I hate my brother because he's an asshole...it's just not the same thing.
