They aren't and you are an idiot. They alternate back and forth.
As you can see 50% are male 50% female. It took me a total of 30 seconds to locate this info, and it saved me from making a stupid/false post.
How fascinating.
You do realise that i created this thread mainly for humorous joke oppertunities, not to be insulted?

I don't really understand why people insults others on the internet anyway, maybe they just need a hug.

afaik its dependant on the direction they revolve so if they spin one way they are "female" and if they spin the other way they are "male" and they are named alphabetically as they form tho many don't get very big or make landfall and so you don't hear their names on the news.
for the large part this.
one thing to add we had so many one year here in the US we almost ended up going to the "plan b" set of names, which are Klingon.

Hurricane Ike was a big deal a few years back.

I think this thread's done by looking at the comments.
I disagree!
I haven't had anywhere near my fill of jokes yet.

That's right, i don't care about the actual answer, i'm just here for the amusement.

Hurricane Paul's.

its just rare to see the biggest and baddest hurricanes end up having male names, but there are a lot of hurricanes that are given male names. i find it more odd that they are given names to begin with. it has to suck having a name that is later given to a deadly hurricane. i wonder how many girls named Katrina disliked this fact.
I was in high school when Hurricane Katrina came through and there was a girl named Katrina that was a little unhappy with this naming coincidence. I made a couple of stupid jokes along with everyone else, but then Katrina pointed out to me that Hurricane Jeanne (my name) came by the year before and killed over 3,000 people which is almost twice as many people as Katrina. Andrew also stopped making fun of Katrina at that point.

I don't get this, why are they always named after women?
I want to see a Hurricane Paul!

Or a Hurricane Lord Snugglebritches.
...
Sorry about that thought.

EDIT: Okay, i understand that they are not now.
So be quiet.
They used to be in germany. It's said that they named all bad wheater stuff (no hurricanes here) after their wifes. I don't know if that is actually the reason for it, but this sexist name choosing existed. Every low pressure are had a female name, every high pressure area a male name. It was changed due to (reasonable) protest around 1999 or something.

Isn't it obvious *insert some joke about woman relating them to a storm*
Not really, like others said it goes alphabetical.

Actually they are named alternating male female names. Each name begins with the next letter of the alphabet. i.e a girl A name, then a male B name, then a girl C name, then a male D name, etc.

Hooray for useless knowledge about Hurricanes!

When they come, the're hot and wet, and when they leave, your house and car are gone.

All joking aside, I honestly wouldn't know. But not all of them are named after women, take one of the best known of them all, Andrew. Tore a nice big chunk out of Florida.

Imagine that...."The death toll after Hurrican Lord Snugglebritches is 2000 people and rising." I guess it would make the news more fun. :) What about 'Butt kickers of the light fantastic Tsunami that hit japan?'

Love the big deal about the current weak hurricane in america. Lots of help and money before it hits. But with Katrina.....no help and no money for 3 days. I guess their is more rich people on the east coast. :)

Cause hurricanes are like women. They moan like hell when they come, and they take the house when they leave...hurr hurr hurr.

OT: Actually, they alternate by male and female. Hell, just look up hurricane Andrew.
