Usually in most threads you come across, full of PC gamers (fanboys, if you will) and Console gamers, it always turns into a gigantic flame war on what is better.
Usually it doesn't unless someone starts by saying "Why are PC gamers full of so much hatred..."
1) Because we aren't.
2) Because neither are you
3) Because the PC can do somethings better than a console and the console can do things easier than a PC...that's the point of them not fighting for the same market.
I'd suggest you take a quick look back through the history of this forum for every week this topic has come up, and then ask if your initial wording wasn't slightly...aggressive?
This forum does not cover the entire internet.
I have seen literally dozens of flame wars all over different forums, and websites.
This forum is more mature and friendly compared to others, so i brought the intelligent discussion here.
Look, for some reason root is being nice enough to be coy about your OP, but I am just going to point this out clearly for you, call a spade a spade if you will. By "slightly...aggressive?" I think it is better said that the initial wording is flame bait, a carrion call to trolls. Does this make me or others responding a troll? I hope not. Irregardless that OP is offensive (see: aggressive) at the very least.
Come on man/woman/child, Root clearly invited you to peruse any number of other threads on this same subject a quick google search of the site would have netted you, bringing the entirety of the 'net into is disingenuous. Its entirely likely that there are very few humans who can claim with any reassurance such a vague source is one they have scoured all the corners of. Instead, why not just say which dark recesses of the WWW you found such "enlightened rustic individuals" who weren't also just spouting off at in the text with out fully researching and pondering this age old subject to any significant degree.
And while I am sure "the forum" is thankful for the compliment, your posts thus far in this thread you demonstrated precious little of the virtues you ascribe to these forums. And now I tell you why:
One key point of your post is the myth that gmaverick019 rightly noted would be a source of contested legitimacy -
PC Gaming Is More Expensive Than Consoles. This hasn't been true roughly since somewhere around the time DirectX v9 and the latest generation of consoles came out. So, lets go through a quick list of the "cheaper" console, how much did your "X" cost:
- Dwelling with a space large enough to play a motion controlled game (Wii/ Move/ Kinect) with multiple players
- Comfortable seating arrangement (Couch, recliner, pillow, etc)
- Flat screen tv (do tv tubes and the cable in/out converters even get sold anymore?)
- Furniture the tv sits on/in, usually called a entertainment center (if you have it securely wall mounted, awesome)
- Sound system
- Furniture space that holds your game disc cartridges
- Console
- Extra Controllers
- Extra Peripherals
- Discs that are all roughly $60 CDN before taxes unless used last I checked
- Transportation to the Retail store
- Internet Service Provider
- Access Online Content Delivery Service & Multiplayer (Xbox Live/ PSN/ Wii Online)
- Credit Card (mine charges me a annual fee on top of the compounding and confounding interest)
Sure, go ahead an write some of that stuff off, you had it anyway and are using it for other stuff, heck lets just toss in that you go for the cheapest entertainment options you can, a lot of the stuff in your tiny living room is second hand and you didn't get any extras. How good is your gaming now though? So you pick a up a few extra costs, a few more games, a few more controllers ... BAM! You are easily hitting and surpassing your magical $1000 number pulled out of thin air. You know how I know? I paid roughly $400 for my PC which includes the flatscreen and peripherals, $25-40 a month for internet, I can sit anywhere with it (heck, I don't even have to keep it at home), it fits in tight spaces, the sound is headphones so I don't disturb others, I buy games for it when digital distribution stuff has sales like Steam did over the holidays so I maybe have spent only $40 for 10+ (I forget the exact number, there were bundles) games of wonderful quality in the last year - heck maybe only around $120 for all the years I have had Steam and that was only because I spent $45 on a L4D pre-order. I don't even have to use the damn thing for just gaming, what do you think I am doing with this post right now for instance? Did you type your post up on a console perchance?
And then there are the mods for those ridiculously cheap games I picked up. I'll be lucky if I even scratch a third of all the fun experiences my games have to offer. And I still haven't hit your BS $1000+ number.
So, the only people I ever see descending these threads into flame wars are either PC gamers who don't know how good they have it or Console gamers who don't realize how badly they are being ripped off for stuff PC gamers get for free (without even being a dick about it by pirating). You know what the best thing Consoles do these days that PC gamers can look on in envy upon? Motion controllers that don't need a hack to work. Beyond that Console games seem to be having all the same problems PC games have, only Consoles have a better funded propaganda campaign to convince the consumer bugs/crashes/pirating happen more often on the PC, so good in fact they will charge a Console gamer for the patches with some games and call it DLC.
But what do I know, I only keep a console around for when company comes over and wants to do something other than watch a dvd or play a board game between socializing, drinking, and eating well.
