I wake up this morning and go online, looking for the reviews of recent movies. I notice Grown Ups 2 has a 95% 'want to see' ratio with the public. I check the comments and see things like "Adam Sandler is so funny lol can't wait for this one." Thinking this is a fluke, I go to the movie theater. A massive crowd swarms the place for Grown Ups 2, including a family with several small kids (have fun explaining that deer urine scene, parents) and maybe 20 people in the line with me for Pacific Rim.
While I'm waiting I see a commercial over the concession stand for the Xbox One. 'As if it's not already a lost cause', were my exact words I watch the movie and come home, then look on the internet. A suggested page from Target grabs my eye as it shows a PS4 and an Xbox One on the cover. The subtitle: 'The only hard part is having to choose.'
Before I jump to conclusions, I remember Target is a soulless company trying to sell more and would hardly know about the turmoil going on. Really not their fault, when you get down to it. Then I check the comments. 66 likes: 'Um its obvious Xbox PS4 will suck because I had a PS3 and it sucked.' 25 likes: 'PS4: cheap & poor people. Xbox: Classy, wealthy gamers.'
Why? How are there so many of these people? I mean, I'm used to a smug sense of superiority, but this brings me no joy. To see a great many people clearly taking the wrong, torturously worse path just brings me down. The Honey Boo Boo generation is still here, and they're not getting any brighter. Let's hope none of them ever end up with nuclear missiles or something.
EDIT: All right, this is probably a bit harsh. I have a bad habit of judging other people (like I said, I've got that smug sense of superiority going on), and it may have gone too far. I welcome open discussion, too; if they had good, justifiable reasons, I probably would've debated them, but thought no less of them afterwards. However, most of the people I saw had absolutely no reasons to support their ideas. (Actual quote: 'Well its not cheaper because you have to buy the PS Eye and that's $100.') And yes, in some cases this sort of anger falls perfectly into the 'stop liking what I don't like' category. Grown Ups 2 is not one of these areas. It's basically pattern recognition at this point.
