My good friend, you may be my hero, as I love conspiracy theories. And yes I am aware of this, which is why my rise to power will be softenned by this ignorance. Still a pain in the ass on a day to day basis though
Well I am glad someone thinks so highly of me.~

You have my willful/un-willful vote.

(Also a fun side note, a while ago I started visiting all these conspiracy forums for the lulz. But I think they have forever scared me.)

...Why did you not smack that girl up the head?

Don't worry about it too much, because, here's the thing. Those jocks and blondes of yours may be hot stuff now, but realize that in a short amount of time, you will probably be the car splashing water on them sitting on the curb.

I don't know why people think it's more important to be popular than to be smart. It's just a status, a status that doesn't mean jack to your future employer.

I don't know.

But that's why there is escapism.

And thus escapists, and thus The Escapist.

So, indirectly, you have idiocy and ignorance to thank for a forum full of intelligent people (most of the time).

1- Being a dipshit didn't become cool, it's just that the people who were cool became dipshits. This is happening because now children are being raised badly, and also are allowed to watch the Disney Channel.
2- Because society is full of idiots. See 1.

(also the insult "dipshit" makes no sense, speaking literally)

But lately there is a question that has been slowly growing in the back of my mind: Why are people so goddamn stupid and ignorant?

I don't mean people with a low IQ or a disability. I mean your regular, everyday, bleached blonde dumb whore. I see them every freakin day, and I always wonder why? I chose to believe that everybody is born at (roughly) the same level of intelligence. So why are there so many dumb stereotypical Jocks and Blondes? It's not even that they're dumb, they're just ignorant. They don't see anything past there little bubble involving their BFF's and OC. Why? Like am I the only person who sees the value of getting their head out of their ass? The other day in my civics class we were talking about how sports are valued so much over smarts, and somebody(another stereotypical girl) said "Who cares about being smart? It's pretty much worthless." Honnestly? Nobody even argued that point.

And for the most part it's true. People go through years and years of school just to have thousands of dollars of debt that they magicaly have to pay off. Meanwhile, Johnny nobody goes straight to work and does almost aswell as the guy who spent all this time getting educated. What the fuck?

So here is my question to you guys (actualy, I have 2):
1-When did being a dipshit become cool? And how the fuck did we let that happen?
2-Why doesn't society honour those who do well, get educated, ect?

I'm shure this topic has been done before, but I would still like you guys to go for constructive critisms, not trolling me. Otherwise, post away.
I am done high school, and all my short life I have considered myself smart. Not Eistein smart, just a bit above the average. I often like (liek? Come on buddy, proofread) to question things. Just kind of who I am. But lately there is a question that has been slowly growing in the back of my mind: Why are people so goddamn full of themselves and disproving of the way others act?

I don't mean people with a low IQ or a disability. I mean your regular, everyday, whiny angst-filled dipshits. I see them every freakin day, and I always wonder why? I chose to believe that everybody is born at (roughly) the same level of intelligence. So why are there so many dumb stereotypical emos and wimps? It's not even that they're pathetic, they're just ignorant. They don't see anything past there little bubble involving ripping on popular kids. Why? Like am I the only person who sees the value of respecting people who are different, even if they live entirely different lives than me? The other day on the internet I read about ANOTHER angsty teenager bitching about the popular people in his school. I saw him bitching about people just because they have different values and interests, and no one even pointed out how much of a closed-minded shithead he was being!

And for the most part it's true. People go through life whining about every fucking thing that doesn't go their way, then they hit adulthood and wind up without a job because people can't stand their pathetic outlook on people around them. Whereas Joe Blow goes through life respecting everyone for their own opinions and interests, and he ends up with a great life and lots of friends!

So here is my question to you OP (actualy, I have 2):
1-When did being a dipshit become cool? And how the fuck did we let that happen?
2-Why does society let whiny angst-ridden shitheads like yourself continue to act how you act?

I'm sure (again, shure? Seriously? This was a topic about people being idiots, and you can't even handle grammar and spelling) this topic has been done before, but I would still like you guys to go for constructive criticism (sigh, criticism, not critisms) , not trolling me. Otherwise, post away.

Seriously kid, you are being just as bad, if not worse, than these people. If the way they act and the things they like rub you the wrong way? Ignore it and move on. It doesn't affect your life one. fucking. bit. They are living their lives happily, but that bothers you because they aren't the same as you? Real progressive thinking. Even if they are picking on you or something (which they might be, you didn't mention anything about it though) just fucking deal with it. High school is four short years, then all of a sudden real life kicks in. If they really are that stupid, they will fall behind. That's how life works. However, the same works both ways. If you really are this whiny and let people bother you this much, you will fall WAY behind, and won't have a single person wanting to help you out, because you are too busy acting like a douchebag towards others.

Just please, for the love of God, stop being a prick and getting upset because of how some people act. They are doing what is good for them, you do what is good for you, and everyone will be happy. Or you could go move in with the pope, you seem to share his views on people being different.

Man... High school was a tough period. You gotta hold on to the friends you have and look to the future. Don't bother with the jocks and the blondes. As you go on, they will get flushed aside. Some of them will actually turn decent people. For the rest... move along. Hold on to your dreams. Makes everythings sweeter! :)

EDIT : As for the "why", I guess the quote "Ignorance is bliss" might not be too far. I suppose using the brain is a hurtful process for several people. Even more, asking questions and wondering lead to fear and insecurity. Most of these people lack self-esteem and hide it in a very annoying way. It takes courage to think.

i disagree on this point. granted that most of the grads whose first pay check is quite similar to those who are "johnny nobody", but the pay increase over the years are going to be much greater. It is true because at least from where I'm from. Furthermore, our starting pay may NOT be the same. E.g. i'm raking in 8k for my starting while non-grads from my area are only earning 1.5 to 2 for theirs. Though to be honest, some of my fellow grads are taking in 2.1 for their starting as well, and I'm sure some non-grads are going to earn beyond 2k for their starting. So i guess how much you make is determined by how much desire and drive you haf?

Who cares? It sounds like you just found out that you are not one of the "cool kids" in high school and want to vent your angst here. In a few years who will never see those "ignorant" people again and will become so fucking jaded with life, like the rest of us, that it doesn't matter anymore.
To be honnest, I realy dont give 2 shits about the "Cool" kids, mainly because I don't find them very cool. I am just very sick of having to hear dumb shit day in and day out, and then I look like the idiot when I'm the only one who says "Wow you realy didn't know that? Come on it's fuckin commen sense!"

I'm going to say it's a cultivated media image. It's who our society idolizes, and who is seen as a figure to emulate.
This begs other questions: How do the idols in our society become idols? How do trends change? Do people try to change who they are or do they try to emulate their idols to the tee? For example, meathead jock likes (American) football, meathead hears that favorite quaterback went to an upscale college, does the jock change because he wants people to think he is smart or because he wants to emulate his idol and receive a similar experience?
Good question. I think there are a few trend breakers out there who do their own thing, and then everyone else coppies them. Like this whole "Green movement" started with a few hippies petitioning, yet now that it is "cool" everyone is doing it

It sounds like you are the one with your head in your ass. All you've done in this topic is tell us that you consider yourself smart and other people ignorant. Perhaps YOU need to get YOUR head out of YOUR ass and realize that people with differing opinion, habits, and viewpoints are not necessarily the ignorant idiots you perceive them to be.

If you had given an example of someone that you know actually stating something that they thought they knew that happened to be incorrect, you would have the basis for a good topic. As of now, your question is: "Why do I think that many people in my school are ignorant?"

The answer to that my friend, is because they have a viewpoint that is different from yours. By definition, you are ignorant.

I dealt with this same problem, so why can't you? There have always been idiots. Some have even made it very far in life. Honestly, you will be facing these sorts of people forever. Man up, ignore them, and find a circle of friends who share your interests and value your intelligence. Bitching about it won't solve anything.

Oh I see what you did here, you took exactly what I said and then reposted it, but this time bitching about me being a dumb whnniy emo child. Very clever. Very clever indeed.

Alright I'll clear a few things up:
-I'm not emo. Not even close.
-I'm sorry if my grammar doesn't meet your Nazi standards, but lighten up you prick. You come here bitching at me cause I over think things and whine about the little shit, while you pick apart my minor spelling errors. Way to not be a hypocrite
-I usualy do just ignore them and move on. But sometimes it just gets to me.
-I have alot of friends actualy, and I already know what I plan to do with my life after I finish high school, so I don't think I will fall WAY behind.
-No I don't mind when people are different. I do mind however, when I can't strike up an intelligent conversation with fucking anybody because none of them know what the fuck I am talking about. With the exception of my group of friends(about 15 people), nobody seems to put any thought into fucking anything anymore. Doesn't that scare you that people who will be running the world for the next 30 years have no idea what the hell is going on?
EDIT-Also, god forbid I challenged the idea that I shouldn't think things over.

Who knows, maybe they'll forget to put the car on park, or plug up the exhaust pipe in a stupid attempt to become youtube stars. One can only hope...

1: Being a dipshit became cool when being cool meant pursuing a social life at the expense of an intellectual one.
2: Society does honor those who do well and get educated, just not in high school.

Society lets this happen because there are still enough people who take care of their own business and get through college to run the country anyway. The idiots also provide a workforce for jobs that educated people don't want to take.

To the progenitor of this thread: Take care of your business in HS and get into a good college. You won't have the same complaints.

Don't forget: someone's got lead the grunts, and the vast majority of the time, that person has a college degree. The army's school (West Point) delivers an Ivy league quality education. I wouldn't call its graduates idiots. Agreed about pumping the gas though (even though some states don't have attendants).

This reminds me of that comic where there are five Ayn Rand fans on the same train.

"Look at these people. Glassy eyed automatons going about their daily lives, never stopping to look around and think! I'm the only conscious human in a world of sheep."

You see, it's funny because they are looking at the people around them and thinking the same.. Ah, well you are smart, you'll get it.

I like how you describe yourself as smart, but you make easy spelling mistakes. (just messing with you. My spelling sucks, too.)

I'm going to go with the theory that ignorance is bliss. I happen to think of myself as part of the intelligentsia (or at least want to be part of it) and I think that some of the things that you eventually learn are really scary, and I think that some people just don't want to man up and face the facts, so they never learn them.

Why didn't you?

I hate to seem confrontational, but nothing ever changes by people wringing their hands and wishing that things were different. People have to take responsibility for making the change, and by "people" I mean "you". It seems to me that you let a golden opportunity pass by.

Of course, if you did argue the point (it's a tad unclear in your post) then you have my thanks for doing so. Alternatively, if speaking up would have meant a one-way ticket to having your head stuck down a toilet, you have my sympathy.

Disclaimer: I went to a school that only offers places to intelligent pupils, and so I have never encountered this problem. My apologies therefore if my comments are unhelpful.

This bugs me. You're basing your view of society on high school. A lot of people in high school still have not fully matured. How often do you see adults behave the same way as these "bleached blond dumb whores"?

And you shouldn't consider yourself to be smarter than the average Joe, even slightly. Then you will only feel dumber when a smarter person come along and knocks you down a peg.

1. Being the big football player in high school is the main thing, and all the girls want to date or be around or fuck the big football player/star. they dont care about smarts, because they are the big "in" thing of the momment. their have their popularity. nothing else matters, they have people around them. people that they think will be around them forever. man are they soooooo wrong.

2. Bill Gates. =|
