Why are realistic games popular when gamers like me just want to get away from reality?

Because realistic games usually mean shooting. And that person killing millions and not getting caught is not realistic.
Exactly. No matter how realistic the flight sim or FPS is, the fact that you will never be in that situation in your life means they are still very much an escape from your real life.

I play some games to get away from reality. I play other games to get a taste of reality that would be otherwise unavailable to me.

But above all, I play games to have fun.

Before COD MW 2 was made, everybody i met agreed. Now they say Halo sucks because it isn't realistic.?
...
Please tell me you didn't suggest that game was realistic. I mean, the game takes place in a fictional world where russia is taken over by terrorists with access to nukes! You can regenerate health and explosions neither shellshock you nor dismember you.

I don't like the realism wagon Rockstar jumped on. GTA4 and both DLC's were as fun as diarrhea. Cover system in GTA4 sucks and so does the character movement. It takes Niko 3 seconds to respond to your commands. It's a pain in the ass to play that game. And cover system is just stupid. The entire shooting mechanics is about you crouching behind cover not moving once until the end of the gunfight. That's how easy the game is because of their realism thingy. What happened to run and gun in most video games? Run and gun is awesome. Cover system should be used only when you're wounded. That may not be realistic but it's fun. Realism is boring. If I wanted realism I'd go outside and rob a real bank. At least I'd have fun doing it.
Did you play GTA on PC by chance?
Always. But I played it with a controller and it was still fucked up.
The port was bad, many of your problems seem to be that not the actual mechanics, I have instant repsonses on my pc copy, but run and gun was easy most of the time in GTA IV.

On main topic realism is all relative MW2 is by most games standards relastic, but is less so than ARMA2, which is still a way of realty itself.

Why well as has been said some people us it as a way of escaping their reality, and some jsut need a certan level to be able to suspend their belief.

I can't play a realistic game for very long before I question the nature of the universe and human stupidity. ( You get a CANDY if you get the quote )

So I prefer unrealistic games.

i'm not a hardcore gamer but i always liked the HAlO series for some reason. and before COD MW 2 was made, everybody i met agreed. Now they say Halo sucks because it isn't realistic. so what? most people watch movies, read books and play games to escape this reality and enter an other one. like the wise says: we decline your reality and substitute our own :D. i would love to hear your opinion about this and only this. Not things like im an idiot because i like Halo, i get that enough.

in short:Is realism in games better than games without any relation to reality?
Escapism is not confined to a specific genre (f.x. fantasy or sci-fi) but covers every type of reality.

Some people want to be a wizard, others want to be U.S ranger or Spec-Ops agent.

Thats why man. The PC port of all of those games are garbage.
After playing the console, and then the PC version it was a noticeable drop in performance. Even with the controller on my PC there seemed to be a delay from when I would hit a button, and when nico would actually do something.
