Well, I haven't played Sniper Elite, but if the game features American soldiers helping Germans kill Russians before the end of WWII, then it's because the gamemakers have an extremely tenuous grasp on history. Americans were the Russians' allies, and we were fighting against the Germans. So I guess you can just chalk that up to retards making the games, and enough retards playing the games that no one seems to notice the historical clusterbonk.
As for Russians "always" being evil, the most recent Call of Duty game has you playing about half the campaign as a Russian soldier, fighting alongside other Russian soldiers. But I guess the fact that an extremely well-selling game has a Russian protagonist is unimportant.

They have the right type of voice just like when American's use British accents for all upper class villians.
Because the orthodox school of thought rules western society despite all of it's hypocrises and over-simplifications. Its a hangover from the Cold War
The Russian's are always evil because of the Cold War and they are always spying on everyone like most superpowers, but the US isn't going to have films which they are the bad guys in.

The Cold War. Everyone hated the Soviets. Everyone still seems to hate the Russians 24 years after it.
The real question is acctually, why are always the americans the good guys and everyone who doesnt think so a terrorist?
Because Americans need a super-villain and the Russians still fit the bill, after the Cold War. If the current wars weren't so controversial, you'd already see villains with a lot more Middle-Eastern... colors.
Really, though, it's not that Russians are always evil so much as it is that most evil guys are Russians. Or anyone that doesn't have an American accent, for that matter. There is the tendency for villain-casting to start from the East and slowly progress west. If it's not an Arab, it'll be a Russian. If not a Russian, it'll be someone from another Eastern European country. If not from Easter Europe, then central. Western. And if they feel like partying, they might throw a corrupt American in the mix.
Upon reflection, it might actually be the accent and not the Cold War, after all.
