Why Are So Many Thread Titles Capitalised Like This?

Being titles, and not regular sentences, they bear capitalization.

Starting every word with a capital is grammatically appropriate for titles.

Starting every word with a capital letter is what makes a title a title. That's just what titles are.
These are thread titles, though, as opposed to articles or books or whatnot. It strikes me as strange to formalize them when we're just going to talk about boobs or cyborgs or cyborgs with boobs. Especially considering how often the rules of grammar are ignored the rest of the time :p
You use the same rules when putting a title on an episode of Aqua Teen Hunger Force as you do when you're putting a title on a classical work like War and Peace. The rules for capitalizing a title have nothing to do with the depth of the content. And, like I said in my first post, since established grammatical rules for a thread topic do not exist, people have adopted the rules used for putting a title on something.

Its been said, its because its a title.

Also

I can get my left leg but not my right leg. I need to work on my hip flexibility for Jiu Jitsu.

Titles are supposed to have every word capitalised, except for common short words UNLESS they are at the start of the title.

For example: A Link to the Past. 'To' and 'the' are not capitalised because they are too common.

The point of a title is to highlight the subject of the proceeding material - be the title just a fragment or a full sentence. As such, the subjects, decriptors, and verbs are supposed to be capitalised to highlight them.

Happy birthday to you, I guess... and No, I cannot do the legs thing either...

Yeah, they capitalize the titles because that's what titles do. Except I think the rule is that the only words you need to capitalize are the words that answer the Five W's (and one H). Who, What, Where, etc. and the first word, of course.

As for the legs thing, I did it once with one of my legs, and I could never do it again.

You will capitalise thread titles, and you will like it!

As for putting my legs behind my head, no I can't. I'm sure I'd do some form of horribly painful injury to myself if I were to try it at the moment.

Because they are in fact all Golems. And Golems capitalise every word.

As for the legs, no but I can touch either foot to my head. So I could probably manage one foot behind if I expended a lot of effort.

I agree.

Also, I can't even touch my head with my stinky, hairy foot.... What a tragedy...

Jesus Christ, could you put up a weaker argument?

"Durr hurr, capitalization in titles is only used when it's a book. Or an article. But only when they don't talk about boobs. Or cyborgs. Or cyborgs with boobs HERP THE DERP."

No.

Just...no.

It's a title, thus, it's correct to capitalize it. Of course, this is an internet forum, do whatever the fuck you want, but don't call others out on something that is technically correct.

And yeah, I can put my legs behind my back. And no, it was not while I tried to do...that. It was in the company of other people, though I can't remember why. It was probably just a thought I had, and tried to do.

I seem to remember my teachers telling me that a title should have capital letter at the start of words unless is a little word like or or of.

Example: The Killers of Chichester

I don't know if I am right or even if she was but thats what i think is the case.

And yes, I can put my legs behind my back and many other weird positions are available to me. I am a very flexible man!

Because you touch yourself at night.

Uh, I prefer thread titles that don't have every word capitalised, I find it easier to read.

Don't know if I can put my legs behind my head, don't really care much to find out. I probably can't though.

Even better, are the threads like this: "i like Sitting on a chair". What makes a person think the word 'sitting' needed a capital, but the 'i' is all willy-nilly? At least nail the title people, it's the first thing everyone will see. This is the first time I've let a grammar comment swing through the barrier, so I'm really going to reign it in or I'm going to go insane.

I can't make a human pretzel.

Because it's the title and that's how titles are usually formatted, at least in other forms of written media anyway. I do that with the subject line in my e-mails too.

Because people don't understand proper use of capitalization, sadly.

When I was about 10 I could put my legs behind my head. Not anymore though. Now I can just put my toes in my mouth (yes, gross, I know).

I can totally get both legs behind my head. The right seems to be easier than the left though for some reason.

Because it's a title, therefore it's correct to capitalize every word.

And also, no, I can not, although I have a friend who can put both legs behind his, or put one leg behind his head and hop around. On an unrelated note, he's Guatemalan.

capitalisation Is Hard.

On another note, I can put my legs behind my head, and a few years back, was able to s--- I mean, say I could scratch my back. Which I can. No, there was nothing whatsoever in that last sentence that was disturbing in any way. :D

I keep seeing this, and it strikes me as odd. Capitals go at the start of a sentence, or can be used for ANGRY ALL CAPS RAAARGH but starting every word with a capital is...strange.
For me, at least, it's because that how I was taught to write titles when I was very small. If the title is, say, how to read and write the words of the english language, I'd make it a title by underlining it, and capitalising it thusly:

How to Read and Write the Words of The English Language.

All words are capitalised except for the little 'joining' ones (to, and, the, of), unless they are part of a Noun.

Shit. It works, even here!

I've always felt that titles should be capitalized, (except for maybe a's and the's) but it mainly up to the OP. Though I tend to notice that newbies don't post thread titles in full caps, while other Escapists (such as myself) tend to capitalize the titles of all their threads without fail.
