Mock the Week has a few funny female comedians, just not that *fat black woman*, she is boring.

*I say this because her name eludes me, and they have had a fair few fat people.
Gina Yashery (something like that), but I agree, she is terrible, I have seen bricks with better stand up acts. Also, I think she had liposuction, because she has become creepily skinny.

Ok first thing is first, PatientGrasshopper without a doubt You are sexist.(Based on what I've seen from you)

Anyways, last I checked there are many hilarious women, you just have to look at shows like "Premium Blend" Or "Last Comic Standing" They also appear in TV shows and such, just look closely and expand your comedic horizons, also there are heaps of funny female comedians, that and I am going to get this thread locked.... (I hope)
I agree, there are lots of great females in comedy series. But I cant think of any female comedian standups that I've seen that I enjoyed.

*Echoes Jo Brand*

Typically, most female comedians are angry feminist types who go and on about the inadequacies of the male sex. This is funny for a couple of minutes and then it turns into something you've heard before at your local 'Girl Power' march, led by women who are more beefy than me, or the same old B.S. you hear on Loose Women\The View. (Thinks the view is the USA's equivalent)

It's not just because I'm a guy and they tell anti-guy jokes. It's the fact that they're anti-guy jokes are suitable only for the 1950's and just aren't funny at all. Jo Brand's jokes about blokes are funny because she, is funny.

There are other funny females in comedy, but most are on TV shows and don't do stand up.

They go on about 'Women's Problems' too much...

Men make better comedians for some reason, they seem more interesting. The women always come off as whiny and bitchy and don't have anything interesting to say. Jo Brand is pretty good, maybe because she's British...

I haven't seen many that play songs either...

Agreed. I can name several funny women on TV (not really movies for some reason), but the only female I've ever seen pull off stand-up without looking like she's overachieving or just copying men is Ellen.
I think the problem is that it's still a male-dominated genre, and most of the women who make it, do it by acting like men.

Humour is all very interwoven with hormones and things, humour is just another mating call in the grand scheme of things, simply one everybody can enjoy, thus men are predminantly drawn to practice it.
Interesting theory.

From what I've seen in my so far quite short life, most of these female comedians try to get by with jokes that make digs at the male of the species. Obviously I don't like that, double standards and all.

No, don't make me start. I'll get my complex again.

Ruby Wax, Ellen DeGeneres, Ella Chen, Sarah Silverman, Whoopi Goldberg, Margaret Cho, Chelsea Handler, Kathy Griffin, Amy Sedaris, Kathleen Madigan, Laurie Fondiler, Megan Mooney, FIONA O'LOUGHLIN, Marisa Orth,Dercy Gonçalves, Catherine Tate, Amanda Egge Amanda Egge, Heloisa Perisse, Lucy Porter, Erica Doering, Jo Brand...

All succesful comedians in their own right. If you like them or not is a case of taste. Personally I dislike Jim Carrey and some consider him a comedian too.

To give some more thought on the OP's question, just stop a moment and think of this:

'How many succesful female .....' are there? On the dots (.....) you can fill in any word which has a male equivalent like: comedians, formula 1 drivers, soccer stars, colege football teams, american presidents, etc, etc.

Uhm.. none? Now to answer the OP's question: 'It's a man's world.'

Thread Fini.

I gotta say I agree with the creator of this thread, and I will site a popular Canadian show as my example. When I watch "Video on Trial", a show where they have 4 or 5 stand up comedians come on and mock music videos and most of the time its the guys jokes about the music video that get played, and that's usually because their jokes are better. Whenever I see some of the female attempts at humor I just stare at the screen and wonder, "What the heck are they trying to say there? Is that a joke? That's not all that funny!" There are two exceptions on that show and they are Debra DiGiovanni (famous from Last Comic Standing, she's able to use running gags on her appearances just because she's been on the show the second most times of any comedian), and Nikki Payne (who is just flat-out nuts, she always looks like she's on the verge of having a complete mental breakdown and she uses that to full effect in her comedy). Other than that the women are just cringe-inducing, and I always find myself laughing more at the jokes of guys like Boomer Phillips or Ron Sparks.

I never found Jo Brand that funny. Then again, I've not seen much of her. Gina Yashery however? Unfunny. She knows no method of speech other than shouting and shouting louder, and she has one main form of "humour" -- which boils down to "I AM NIGERIAN!"

I remember watching a female comedian ages ago who had a hand puppet, and I remember finding her act funny. Can't remember her name though.

Not really. It's a rich person's world, the rest of us -- ergardless of gender -- get pissed on just as much.

Sounds like personal prejudice more than fact. I like the comedy of Tina Fey, probably more than a lot of male comedians.

Oddly enough, I found that to be quite, unfunny.

I think Lucy Porter has her moments, but on the whole I do find women comics to be less funny.

No funny female comedians? I've seen about 20 good female comedians listed out here, however, i do find male comedians funnier. Why? Simply put, alot of female comedians get up on stage and talk about their woman problems or how men leave the toilet seat up. I get enough of this at home. I will not pay 20 quid to listen to it from a girl who isnt going to jerk me of at the end of it. And i say that in the nicest way possible, i have respect for alot of women. But that being said, most men dont care for small talk with women, myself included. We just wanna get straight into the thick of it.

You only listen to women who jerk off for you?
