Why are there suddenly so many My Little Pony Avatars?

A strange trend I been noticing is a large amount of Avatar's from the New My Little Pony series. All I know about the new series is that the animation looks like the animation from "Panty and Stocking" (view that information however you wish). I heard at least one "the show is surprisingly good" and some of the avatar's I have seen are being used ironically (got a chuckle out of who ever had the "Resistance is Futile" avatar) but most of them are used pretty much with a straight face. I have not watched the show (nor do I even know what channel or when it on) so it might have a good deal of hidden adult humor ala Animaniacs, but the target audience of my little pony's has always been the complete opposite then the general people that come to the escapist.

So, those that have the avatars, can you explain to me why you have chosen it, and to those that have not can you provide speculation?

One of a few reasons:
a) They think the show is good, its getting a cult following of people out of it's target demographic. Its made by the same people who made another cult cartoon whose name I forget
b) They like the art style
c) They like ponies, omg!ponyponypony!
d) It's currently in vogue to like it, everyone is doing it man
e) It's meme-ing becoming a meme, quite a good one too with the juxtaposition of the cute ponies and death threats making for a good demotivater
f) They have it for the irony, in a soul patch and bongos kinda way

If you spend a few moments on 4chan's /v/ you'll notice how similar it is to this site (one prominent example are all those theoretical "you are now x from the last game you played" threads). That being said, there was some sort of hubbub on 4chan's /co/ where people suddenly began to take a massive interest in the new My Little Pony series out there, trolling a wide range of people. It eventually spread and is now pretty much a meme.

I feel like I shouldn't know this.

I'm thinking more along the lines of silly little misfits thinking that they are part of a greater society of people because My Little Death Pony or whatever it's called is now a meme. Although that can be wrong and it's some retarded thing that came from /b/.

I watch the show with my little niece and nephew. "Friendship is Magic" is actually a really damn good show. Looking back at cartoons from when I was a kid, I cant help but say "why werent there any cartoons nearly this good from when I was a kid" Characters are great, humor is really good, and the animation is a great example of how flash cartoons are a viable mass media medium.

The show was created by Lauren Faust (Creator of Powerpuff Girls and co-creator of Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends). It doesn't get any more amazing than that.

The show is just so light-hearted and funny I can't help but love it.
