Why are they remaking great films into what most probaly will be shit? Seriously My favourite horror film of all time 'The Thing' is being remade and there also remaking another great film 'Red Dawn' and a remake of 'Total Recall' a film that was only good because of Arnie. I don't understand it, do directors and writers actual not have any new ideas!?

:/

Oh. There also making an 'Indian Jones 5' and a 'Terminator 5.'
These films will be out 2011-2012 along with a lot of other shit and some hopefully good movies.

I know it's a silly thing to be pissed off about but I am. lol. Anyway discuss, give your views blah blah blah.

EDIT: The new 'The Thing' is a prequel... Still completly unnecessary and there's a big chance it will be very shit.

Because they want to get all the money from the guys that have nostalgia for them and they do not care about the quality. Also they will ALL be shit.

Well it is not a lack of new ideas, but the safety found in old ones. They know people will spend money to see the shitty remake, and will turn a profit. They have to gamble on new ideas.

What you're forgetting is that the Thing (I assume you're reffering to the Carpenter version) is itself a remake. Remakes aren't always bad.

On the other hand.

They remade THe Wicker Man with Nicholas Cage.

THEY REMADE THE WICKER MAN WITH NICHOLAS CAGE.

I don't know, I don't think all remakes of old movies are necessarily shit.

Peter Jackson's take on King Kong was pretty good. Although it was REALLY long.

The Thing(new one) is a prequel. Remember how their was an axe in the door? Well, now we will show how it got there! *crickets*
On the new Indy and Terminator: *sigh* Looks like it is time to blow up Hollywood. Didn't want to do this, but if I must, I must.

There are doing a new Bonnie and Clyde movie and Hilary Duff is playing Bonnie.
I am not joking! This is the worst movie news that I have heard in a long time, I want to vomit.

Jackson did do a terrific job, but compared to the original it was nothing (in my opinion) the original King Kong moved me, hell it made me cry lol. Peter Jackson's remake just entertained me. :)

I thought the Thing movie was going to be a prequel. It'll still probably be bad, but I'm going to see it anyway.

Along with those remakes I'm getting tired of all the reboots that keep happening. Spider-Man and Superman are both getting reboots within a four year period. Shouldn't movie execs wait at least a little while for the bad taste of the last movie to get out of the public's mouth before shoving a new one in?

There's a reason for this, Marvel want a Spiderman reboot becuase the others where really bad films and they want a good Spiderman film for The Avengers film. With the Superman reboot, DC are making a Justice League film so they want a decent new Superman film.

P.S. Superman Returns was one of the most god awful films I have ever seen.

The Thing is going to be a prequel, not a remake. And it has Mary Elizabeth Winstead, so it's worth watching anyway. ;)

The other two...why not remake them? If they aren't good, don't watch them. If they are, then maybe we get another True Grit--a really solid remake.

As for Indiana Jones 5 and Terminator 5, one word: money.

I'm not saying they didn't have reasons, I just don't trust that quick of a turn around on a franchise; also I don't think my childhood could handle another blow like Spider-Man 3.

Fixed that for you. Anyway. I thought they were making a prequel to The Thing set in the Norweigan camp? Technically True Grit isn't a remake as it based on the book not the John Wayne film. Would you have railled against it? Because it is brilliant, a lot better than the Duke version. The Coens brilliant film-makers that they are have learnt their lesson after the travesty of the Ladykillers.

More value

OT: Yeah, got to agree with the people talking about how remakes are safe. They know that some people will see it for nostalgic value, while others will just see the movie. Either way, they get money.
