Why are they remaking great films into what most probaly will be shit? Seriously My favourite horror film of all time 'The Thing' is being remade, and there also remaking another great film 'Red Dawn' and a remake of 'Total Recall' a film that was only good because of Arnie Michael Ironside. I don't understand it, do directors and writers actual not have any new ideas!?

:/

Oh. There also making an 'Indian Jones 5' and a 'Terminator 5.'
These films will be out 2011-2012 along with a lot of other shit and some hopefully good movies.

I know it's a silly thing to be pissed off about but I am. lol. Anyway discuss, give your views blah blah blah.

Fixed that for you. Anyway. I thought they were making a prequel to The Thing set in the Norweigan camp? Technically True Grit isn't a remake as it based on the book not the John Wayne film. Would you have railled against it? Because it is brilliant, a lot better than the Duke version. The Coens brilliant film-makers that they are have learnt their lesson after the travesty of the Ladykillers.
I put an edit in for The Thing prequel :)
And I've seen the new True Grit film and yes it's a great film, I didn't think it was going to be bad because I knew it was based on the novel (Great book) I knew how the studio felt about the book and how much time and effort they put into making the film to be a worthy tribute to the novel. When a movie is based on a book it's either going to be good or bad, when a remake of a classic film (or in the case of The Thing a needless prequel) is made, especially at this time of horrible cinema, it's going too be bad.
Thanks for your comment :)

On the bright side maybe people will be encouraged to check out the originals. When the original Men in Black came out I was too young to go see it. So when I saw the trailer for the second one I imediantly wanted to check out the original, which was a really good idea.

Because people are stupid and will watch a sequel 'just for the hell of it'.

Brand recognition, people are more likely to go see a movie if they've heard of its brand at some point in their life. It is far easier and you don't need to really come up with a whole new concept and tons of new marketing.

I am always sceptical of remakes. I prefer 're-envisioning' rather than 'remaking'. For example, I'd probably see 'True Grit' if it was set in present day or in a post-apocolypic envisioning, rather than a gritty version of the original.

That being said, the 're-envisioning' of The Spirit was absolute tripe and a side of faecal matter that missed its mark by about 100 miles (this is coming from a fan of the comic book).

The complete 're-boot' of the Tron frachise is interesting. Compared to the original movie, there's common elements but because of today's CGI tech, a 'remake' does seem like a completely new direction to some extent. Risks were taken rather than hugging the story like a Japanese love-pillow.

I also dislike sequels, because there are enough gifted creative writers out there with completely amazing stories who are shoved to the side in favour of the 'familiar' and 'safe' (and nepotism) for the sake of profits.

Because they want to get all the money from the guys that have nostalgia for them and they do not care about the quality. Also they will ALL be shit.
Then just remake the wizard of Oz and have Robin Williams star as every part

THAT
would sell

weather it was good or not

Anyone hear about the live-action Voltron Movie?
I was all excited, then I saw this:

Yeah, that's a Michael-Bay-Transformers-ified Voltron standing beside the statue of liberty.
My inner child was just stabbed with a small paring knife.

(I mean, SERIOUSLY. Who wants to watch the Earth stuff with Voltron? ALL THE BEST STUFF HAPPENS ON ARUS NO ONE CARED ABOUT THE SECOND SEASON)

EDIT: The new 'The Thing' is a prequel... Still completly unnecessary and there's a big chance it will be very shit.

Well "the thing" itself is a remake (the 82' one I assume your talking about) and it was good right? Maybe the third incarnation will be good as well.

because film makers now are unoriginal. but I,d rather have shitty remakes then more spoof movies.

A remake of "The thing from another world"? Not really, the first was inspired by a story, the second was more an actual adaptation of it.

You have a point there.

There are doing a new Bonnie and Clyde movie and Hilary Duff is playing Bonnie.
I am not joking! This is the worst movie news that I have heard in a long time, I want to vomit.
Me learning this:
-Cool a movie about famous gangsters. Might be interesting. I always found myself interested in Mafia, gangsters and bikers movie when they actually deal with crime.
-Wait... Hilary duff? Why! So much potential suddenly lost.
-I must remove yet another movie from my list.

They're remaking Conan the Barbarian? What the fuck hollywood. And Red Sonja too? Wow talk about scrapping the bottom of the barrel. Those movies have a certain epic quality to them that I just don't see them replicating properly today.

And another Mad Max apparently... Apparently we got beyond thunderdome.

And holy shit they're remaking Troll. What the Hell Hollywood. That movie was terrible (but hilarious to watch) why are you subjecting us to it again.

Combine the weird remakes with the sheer amount of sequels and the next few years look a little bleak.

Edit: why is this guy Conan!!!!

Seriosuly this is Conan:

AND HE IS NOT AMUSED!

Ya, this is exactly what I said. I love mafia movies.
Did you ever see the original Bonnie and Clyde? Decent movie
The worst part is not only is Hilary Duff in this movie but is actually playing Bonnie!

On the other hand.

They remade THe Wicker Man with Nicholas Cage.

THEY REMADE THE WICKER MAN WITH NICHOLAS CAGE.
I thought it was absolutely hilarious.

But hey, I never saw the original, so I don't have strong emotional ties to it.
