As a PC gamer I've been enjoying HD gaming since about 2002, so it's something I pretty much take for granted now... :p

All I hear nowadays is "DAMN! This game looks so realistic!" Quite a few games that have poor design choices, have been praised, simply because of it's graphics. *cough* Farcry 2 *cough* That, and I'm hearing tons of people say "I'd buy a Wii if it was HD.", screw you. So much of this gaming generation is so concerned with a game looking gorgeous, graphics should be the wrapping, not the actual present. Someone mind filling me in on just WHY graphics are so God dang important?
I say the same damn bloody thing. I hate it when my friend won't play a great game, because the graphics are shit. Or because it doesn't look real. No shit it doesn't look real! Where do you see a fucking flying alien?!

To me, the game just has to be GREAT. Sometimes I won't look at games unless their 3d, though really, I usually play ANY game that is in a Genre I like, regardless of graphics and age.

I assume it almost guarantees a more immersive experience and its intricate and purty. That is why we are so HD-stir crazy.

But there comes a point where it just gets annoying to me. Especially when it comes to the televisions for these. Have you ever seen the televisions for them that aren't working with hd material? the frame rate is way up and watching it is annoying. HD is interesting. But I don't want to fork over the extra moolah for it.

Apparently, it just looks nice. I don't know whether or not it's me, but I haven't been able to tell much of a difference anyway, and when I watch/play something that isn't in HD format but I'm using an HD TV... it looks terrible! You can't watch Family Guy in HD, you just can't. Not the regular season episodes, anyway.

I find myself getting irritated with the hype, actually. Yet another one of those things that I'm just getting tired of hearing about.

I honestly can't tell the difference, maybe it's 'cos I wear glasses.
If I find out that's why there's no difference for me... I'm gonna be pissed.

For me, I prefer content and gameplay to graphics. However! back when graphics were making leaps and bounds for instance the N64 to NGC transition, but more specifically they were really being pushed on PC, I found myself truely awed by quality graphics. Even now if a game drops me into a really good looking level, high textures great detail and artistic design I can feel that sense of awe which in my opinion can help a game a lot. Far Cry 2 I heard wasn't that good of a game but it had the graphics, and sure enough I played it and thought "Wow!" which is always nice, but it's not a game I bought.

Anyway, I don't think there's much excuse to not have good graphics on AAA titles for one, and in my opinion that includes Nintendo products. I wouldn't call Wii graphics bad per se, but when you have the standard yellow/red/white plugs in your 40" HDTV it looks a little poor.

So yeah I agree that HD isn't everything but graphics are a huge part of a game and therefore it's important. Maybe not moreso but at least equal to gameplay.

I despise graphics whores. If a game is renowned because of it's graphics, then that game is nothing. Obviously if a game is notorious for that reason, it has many many bad qualities. Usually when people review games, they talk about the story, or combat, or other game-play aspects. HD graphics are nice, but they are only eye candy, not the entire game like some people think. I have a couple of friends with that type of mentality.

Probably because advertisers flaunt it around like sliced bread. Eventually many people automatically drop the outdated stuff and buy the next version. Then others want to buy it because it's the popular thing.

Gameplay > Graphics

Seriously who cares that much about graphics, I still play X-com to this date way more than any other strategy game to come out.
