Okay well i know this thread is just talking about the graphics (so this is really has nothing to do with it (this being what i was laughing at)) but the Wii has out of all the systems (PC, 360, PS3 and itself) THE MOST shittiest games on it (yes some ARE good but I`ve seen mostly shitty games) while 360, PS3, and PC have only some shitty games (and yes I realize thats just all opinion) but when you look at games like Imagine: Babies.....well you know (and so I don`t come out looking like a bad guy I`d buy a Wii myself if I had the money or money to spare, there are a few games on the Wii, I really wanna play)
....................
You think I'm the type to buy crap games on my primary system? You think I'm one of those Mini-game people?
Ive wasted a lot of money on suppose-to-be great games on the Xbox 360 and those titles were "Shitty" as you like to say. And I've seen and played crap after crap on the Xbox 360.

There's more than the spoiler has, but the graphics are fine and the gameplay is great on those in the spoiler.
The Wii has given me Battalion Wars 2, Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn,Madworld,House of the Dead Overkill,Lots of Great WiiWare titles, Super Mario Galaxy, and the Metroid Prime Trilogy. And the graphics are good enough for me to enjoy.
Well what are the titles that you played on the 360

although I cant remember the videos very well, from what i`ve heard the (im gonna have a lot of typos, my keyboard has gone to the french side) Conduit sucks ass, so does Mad World, Brawl is overrated and gets boring fast after playing it and Tatsunoko is shit (so many better anime companies they could have chose from) also House of the Dead is good but the fact that they DIDN`T put the first one on is retarded, also when I played it (at friends house) I died and couldn`t come back, lame!

Because societies eyesight is becoming worse and worse so we need everything in HD so we can see everything

OT: HD graphics for games isn't that important to me, though it it's a great game wouldn't you want it to be present in the best way possible

In Close I only really need HD when I'm watching the Discovery Channel; the world is so violent and pretty ^^

HD tv is basically the best thing ever. If you have ever watched hockey in reg definition and then HD you will be sold immediately. Games i dunno as much as I just have the regular AV hookup and don't really seem to mind.

I could care less about HD. I've been happy with the Wii for 4 years. The Xbox 360...not so much.
I lawled at this, also personally I don`t know why but HD movies make me more motion sickness then Cloverfield did (and I didnt get motion sickness from Cloverfield)
If you have a plasma tv the odds are it's not the movies, but the tv that's giving you motion sickness. As far as everything going HD and widescreen, televisions now are widescreen native. The Wii is not, so everything gets stretched and side to side movements can get exaggerated, other than that I can't think of any reason to hate the Wii other than there really not being a ton of games on it I want to play.

I hate HD. I had to get an HD tv because new games were looking like shit to the point of being nearly unplayable, literally I couldn't see enemies movements in games like God of War so I couldn't tell when they were attacking and thus I'd die, and now all my ps2 games look like someone beat them with the shitty stick. I think that pisses me off more then the cost of the TV which is finnicky and fiddly as FUCK. Why are my beloved PS2 games which I probably play more then any of the expensive as fuck HD shit now rendered terrible quality? Is it that hard to make a TV display something we'd had perfect for generations?
And here again, the problem is not the TV but that the games and system aren't rendering picture in widescreen. I'm also guessing you went from something around 30 inches to somewhere around 50. The larger the screen the worse polygonal objects are going to look because they have to be made larger to cover the larger screen area, it's not like the PS2 can change resolutions.
It`s not really the Wii I hate (its a hunk of plastic) it`s Nintendo...for allowing such shit games to be put on their consoles, it`s just like back in the NES days

When I moved to HD on a 42" 1080p LCD from a crappy old 27" CRT, I suddenly was a lot better at FPSes and driving games. While pretty graphics do help, the ability to see a lot more detail really made the upgrade shine for me.

I like good graphics, but not getting my ass handed to me in Halo by 12-year olds... that's cool.

I always knew my ps3 graphics were good, but I didn't know great graphics until I got it hooked up to and HD tv. Although some games might suck but have nice graphics, those are games I don't buy. I don't see any reason having both great graphics and gameplay is a problem or a sign of "obsession."

If im going to play a bad game for 12 hours I at least want something nice to look at. Theres your answer OP
Why would you play a bad game for 12 hours, anyway? A bad game is a bad game, no matter how beautiful it looks.

First of all, pretty games aren't excused for being bad games... Secondly, HD and graphics are two -very- different things with different advantages to gameplay. (admittedly it's mostly vistual, BUT...)

HD allows more content to be on screen at once. You can see further, see more enemies, more of the road, know that corner's coming before you hit it, see that hole before you swing the club. But also, it allows HUDs to shrink down meaning they occupy less of the screen and obscure less of the action.

Graphics allow things such as hiding in dynamic shadows in stealth games, jumping at your own shadow in horror games and recognising the difference between friend and foe in action games. In sports games it also means you get to see your favourite stars.

Now... I'm not pretending the main advantages aren't "purtyness", but my Dragon Age quickbar can't fit 20 things on it in 800 x 600.
Ohs.....well now I feel like a twit for my lack of specifics. I meant the graphics part, how some designers will focus on that more than gameplay or story.
Well, I can't argue that it shouldn't take the place of good gameplay or story :) I was just pointing out that it can actually "assist" gameplay, not just harm it :)
That's why I said graphics should be the wrapping. You know, that bright and attractive wrapping for Christmas that compliments the awesomeness underneath the paper.

[HEADING=1]*Conspiracy theory crazy person rant*[/HEADING]
Because the companies now have the ability to make everything pretty through new graphics they can distract people with shinies rather then working on core gameplay elements which are the most important part. Gentlemen, the last bastion of classic and quality games is under attack by the shiny graphics industry. They can bribe the major game critics to point out only the pretty graphics and ignore the glaring gameplay and story issues so present in games today.
/end rant

This whole symptom is most likely because people like new technology. What is a more obvious new technology then HD? I can see it. It's right there with it's amazing graphics. It is so "visible" and can be easily marketed, making it an important feature in the mind of the consumer.

No, the TV is the same size. It's not even an issue of stretching. Everything's just blurry and grainy as fuck and the colours look like shit no matter what the settings are. It doesn't help that the TV sounds like shit unless you buy a sound system which costs an ungodly amount of money just to hear the tv without it sounding like it's coming from the other end of a fucking tunnel.
Except that it isn't the same size, televisions aren't square any more. To make up that same 40 inches the tv will be a few inches shorter and several inches wider. The color problems are the PS2 not being able to encode for the width of the tv screen. Maybe you should have kept your old tv to play the ps2 on since you only bought the new one to play the current gen consoles on anyway. I'm with you entirely on the crap sound systems the new televisions have though, they sound like crap without a sound system.

I love HD graphics, honestly it gives much immersion to games. Demon's Souls wouldnt have the much immersion if not for HD graphics, and of corse good level design. :)

so does Mad World, I enjoyed it more than Unreal Tourny and Gears
Brawl is overrated and gets boring fast after playing it Just like all of valves games
Tatsunoko is shit (so many better anime companies they could have chose from) Because of the character's its shit? That makes a lot of sense
also House of the Dead is good but the fact that they DIDN`T put the first one on is retarded, also when I played it (at friends house) I died and couldn`t come back, lame!
As for the games...

Resident Evil 5
Dragon Age Origins
Bioshock
Bayonetta
Rainbow Six Vegas
Street Fighter IV
Assassin's Creed
Assassin's Creed II

A lot of it probably comes down to marketing. It's the "in" thing now to have HD-this and surround sound-that etc. It's easier to sell a game to a layman in terms they understand, and a lot of people won't get the intricacies of games like we do, but they will understand what HD graphics are, because they've had HDTV burnt onto their retinas over the past few years by advertising.

Is it me or HD gaming has been around for sometime for PC gamers?
I'd say HD gaming on the PC really reached widespread appeal around when windows 95 came out. Maybe a little after, a lot of 2D games weren't HD.

Of course we didn't call it that back then.

It took the consoles like 10-12 years but they kind of caught up a little, even though most games are max 720p .... :(
