That's a common misconception by those who can't grasp sarcasm and feel angry because of it.

Whoever said that was being sarcastic.

Keep it civil, don't get all side-tracked and tetchy because you missed the joke.

Getting back on topic, yes it is a shame that all teens get tarred with the same brush, but at the end of the day, what are you teenagers going to do about it? Are you going to try to challenge and change these misconceptions? Are you going to just ride it out til you get older? Get resentful and end up reinforcing those stereotypes?
P.S. pendulum are great, yes.

not true. second;

Because the media portrays all british teenagers as violent ASBO'd up thugs in hoodies, when in fact they are a minority- a high profile minority, however. It generates a climate of fear amongst people, especially when the news is full of stabbings and what-not by these "lumpen proletariat"-type teenagers.
Hell, even I get nervous walking past a group of hoodies, though I haven't been a teen for four years now. It doesn't help when they decide to shout abuse at me, mind you.
Bloody chavs.
too true. thirdly; (no more quotes) the chav sterytype has taken root in ppl's minds making tenagers feared I'm a teen, I get some strange looks while walking around and I'm still scared of youths (youths and teens are differant just the same age), and I could beat the living daylights out of them but I'm one of those ppl who are afraid of fighting (I'm not a coward Its horeditory).

In The Wasps by Aristophanes, the older generation berates the younger one for their loose morals (things were so much better in 450 BC compared to 400 BC, in their day...), disrespect to the elderly and - get this - their music taste. Young people are new, scary and think in weird new ways, and are therefore universally berated. But don't sweat it, it was the same 2500 years ago so I doubt it's personal.

Very much so Budumtish [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/jump/18.69112.722086]

Whatever, I had a whole thing about groups of teenagers scaring older folks, the mall rules, etc. but I hit Back by accident so it disappeared.

So I wrote that.

Have you seen No Country For Old Men? I love the way that movie approached this topic.

Teens are easily swayed and since they barely know themselves and it's nigh impossible for them to form any kind of collective movement to put any kind of pressure on pretty much anything, so they are prone to be manipulated by someone more mature. Sadly that's the truth. Just as teens, perople are essentially powerless.

Speaking in realistic terms, teenagers are not to be feared at all. One day they will rule the world, but when that day comes, they won't be teenagers anymore and will probably look down on whiny confused teens, anyway, so that's no problem.

While i was out and about with my 2 mates tonight, we were standing in the entrance to a park when an old lady on an electical buggy type thing asked us to move , sure no problem we moved and apologized for any inconvience, but she looked scared out of her skin when she asked us , she looked like she was expecting us to hurl abuse at her and to stab her on the spot , now after this event i got thinking and why are us teenagers so feared ? i can understand it if we all beat up old ladies on a regular basis but only a few of us are actually drunken ........ drunken, i can't find the right word to put there but TWATS springs to my mind. just post your thoughts
Depends...are you black? 'cuz some old ladies can be rascist....or anti-immigrant....if ur not, you may be in a bad part of town?

I was gonna check it out, but when I heard it got good review scores I got turned off it as - in my experience - movies that get good review scores seem to bore the shit out of me (with the exception of Wall E, The Dark Knight and Superbad). But hmm, maybe I should check it out, 'specially since - so I hear - Tommy Lee Jones be pimpin'...

The sad part of all of this is that we will say the same thing of teens(unless we keep ours wits about us). Because the baby boomers that know we aren't the spawn of evil tend to be the more sensible of the generation. But every generation's predecessor has always been looked down upon by the former generations. And that's because they're always differentbaby boomers for example, were so offencive to their former generation laws were proposed against them, not to mention the ones they broke in the first place. BUT, I can see what is meant by the OP, in comparison to said boomers we are quite mundane and controlled with the exception of the afore mentioned chavs(scummy little pillocks!).

Welcome to the politics of separation. Everyone's invited, except chavs, queers, warties, hoodies, britneys, peggy preggers, pikeys, gangstas, and a dozen or so groups that I could name.

This is what happens when a society composed entirely of immigrants forgets its roots. Mayhem ensues.

OK, not really, but I'm nineteen and my job has essentially made me despise most teenagers. It's got to the point where I object to the presence of a considerable majority of them on principle.
I love this, I really do.

That would be a valid argument if it weren't for the fact that the vast majority of people in those groups are young white boys who, quite often, are incredibly racist themselves. If only they knew more about Queen Elizabeth those kids would be whipped into shape...
