The gran of a friend of mine (so he told me) was quite paranoia-driven, one day he changed her newspaper subscription to a lesser agressive newspaper and that helped...

With all the focus in the media on street violence I'm not surprised some people are scared of teens, and the truth is they are right too, in every community you have teen thugs that won't have a second thought about beating you or stabbing you, and they would probably laugh while they do it.
Yeah, and the little bastards just manage to skate by with a piss easy punishment that does nothing to make them think twice about what they did.

Edit: never mind, someone answered my question.

I'm 15.

So when I look around I see Emo kids talking about how they want to die, "Gangsta's" talking about how they want to kill, Metalheads screaming about everything, nerdy kids acting antisocially or closing up in their own groups and the rest tend to be weird antisocial kids who parents think will cause the next columbine (I'm Australian and that affects us here).

When I look in I see a bunch of idiots who will out grow this type of stupidity, maybe sticking with their music but heading towards future normality.

Adults take all this as real, thinking all Metalheads and Gangsta's need to be locked up, emo's and nerdy kids need counseling and the others need to be locked up with counselors.
Most don't see some stupid fad their kids will get over, so they start seeing all teenagers in these groups. So they see all kids as generally crazy and as such fear them.

If you don't know better you think the kid who came up and said "***** back the f^ck up before I cap your ass" etc. (How the hell should I know what they say?)is being serious. Adults fear us for what they think we are, not who we actually are.

My Mom warns me everytime to watch my back and to stay on the right side of the road so the cars are facing me, I don't blame her for worrying though. In Australia we have plenty of gangs wondering the streets and I am sure it is no different in other country's.

One night I was walking home from work and then 8 friends of mine jumped out from behind a fence and scared the crap out of me! I couldn't identify them though because it was so dark but this just proves I need to be more careful.

They're damn right to be scared of us, we could kick their arses if we wanted to. They tell us our exams are getting easier because we're getting smarter and they can't take it; they tell us we're murderers because we're getting stronger and they can't handle it. Hell, they'll probably start focusing on the sudden appearance of hundreds of satanic cults if we start getting too spiritual.

They should fear our leet skills because we could (and probably will, eventually) own their faces off.

P.S.
Unfortunately, some people are just Dark Side aligned, and will throw violence at you without a second thought. It's a shame, but there we go.
yeah but that is the attitude that is giving us the bad reputation
I concur.

Also, I'm not sure how it is in other places, but, here, most people are irritated and annoyed with teens in general, and go out of their way to avoid teenagers so that they won't have to be tempted to beat teenagers senseless in the hopes that they might learn something.

I've only just moved out of my teens, but I can't say I really miss it all that too much. God, I hate teenagers and high schoolers.

While i was out and about with my 2 mates tonight, we were standing in the entrance to a park when an old lady on an electical buggy type thing asked us to move , sure no problem we moved and apologized for any inconvience, but she looked scared out of her skin when she asked us , she looked like she was expecting us to hurl abuse at her and to stab her on the spot , now after this event i got thinking and why are us teenagers so feared ? i can understand it if we all beat up old ladies on a regular basis but only a few of us are actually drunken ........ drunken, i can't find the right word to put there but TWATS springs to my mind. just post your thoughts
You think that's bad? Imagine being a colored person.
LoL. I think this calls for a new thread entirely... xD

Lucky bastard. You got out, I've got at-least another three years (end of high school) before I can avoid the rest of them.

It's sad that people feel some sort of need to fear younger generations, I'm just hoping that my joining the police force helps create a positive stereotype for people my age and if not at least i can help deal with those who enforce a negative stereotype.

Bad news is entertaining news, instead of printing something positive about teens, it's always something negative. Take a look at the soaps on TV. The teens are always either trouble makers, slappers or gobby. I can't think of a time a soap portrayed a teen as a polite, well mannered person.
It annoys me so much, because I'm not a typical teen at all; I don't smoke, drink, or do drugs, I don't stand on street corners and hurl insults at people or vandalize things.
I hate walking past a group of chavs (especially girls. Such bitches. I can handle the guys because I just kick them in the nuts.)

Anyone seen the movie Kidulthood?
That movie made me sick to my stomach, it reminded me of all the chavs I know and reminded me to never be one.

Adults are scared that the weird people born in our generation will one day rule the world, and a former emo kid or Soulja Boy fan will be in office.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!

It's not possible!

I'm a teenager, and I resent those kinds of people. However, people like that probably will snap out of it, or not be able to qualify.

So I think we're safe.

I'll tell you what I fear more?

I have a general distaste to most of the current social cultures of the teenagers. Either they annoy me with poorly hidden insults, vague sarcasm, or just plain "Eaøh! Get back here mofo!".

Too bad I lack the punch or the willingness give those idiots a smackdown.

You're probably the better man for not doing anything, unfortunately I tend to be the sort of person that defends myself and my friends at the drop of a hat, I've been in about three fights this year and its always been because of some chav thinking hes the big man and htting either me or a mate. Luckily every time this has happpened the police have seen its self defence and dont bother even talking to me where as all three times the agressors have been taken away and ended up in court.

My reasons for joining the police are a) because of the way the police have treated me in the past, always very proffesional and respectful and b) because I want to be able to help people that have been in the same situations as me.
