Seconded.
I'm a big carnivore and although humans are supposed to be herbivores, we can eat whatever we want. I for one see no problem in biting into a big juicy steak. I'll take mine medium rare with a nice helping of protein.

Oh, and Max, appearently a Maori friend of mine in New Zealand said people taste like pork, that's why the Maori people like pork. ;)

I think vegetarianism is never a good idea, exactly. I think doing it for health is respectable but unnecessary, but if you're doing it because you want to "save the cute furry things", that's stupid. Meat is an important part of the human diet, God put animals on earth so we could use them for our own benefit, and though we should exercise good stewardship like with everything else we have, that does not include not using them. We don't put our Xbox in the closet to avoid ruining it.

I am a vegetarian, but I know the human race needs meat to survive, so I don't have anything against meat eaters. Here's why I am a vegetarian:

I use to work at the Zellers restaurant. One day we were starting this pork dinner special for one week. I and another cook were waiting for the shipment of pork to arrive with the other stuff, but no pork came. So we went about working though out the day without the pork.
Now, this was during the summertime.
Three days later, one of the back shipping bay boys came into the restaurant and told us that the shipment of pork, that we had thought wasn't on the delivery truck, was found by the loading bay door. Anyway, the other cook and I reluctantly go out to throw it out because none of the other shipping boys would touch it. We get to the box, only to notice that it was in a spot that the sun directly hit. My co-worker dared me to open it, and if I had refused, I'm sure I would still be eating meat till this day.
What I saw inside that box, intently turned me off meat. Not only was it covered in files, but the smell...oh the smell was horrible, and it was a nasty shade of green. Lucky for me I hadn't eaten yet, so I made Mike (my co-worker and fellow cook) throw it out,I had had forever sworn off meat.

And that is why I don't eat meat anymore...of anykind.

: )

My sister is the only long-time vegetarian I know, and she just does it because she doesn't like the thought of eating animals, which I can understand. However, then she went on to say that she didn't want her boyfriend to be a vegetarian because "People might think he's a pussy."

...Not sure I understand her logic on that one.

id hate to correct you but...if we "can" eat whatever we want without our bodies going crazy, that means we're not "supposed" to be herbivores. we're "supposed" to be omnivores. Thats why we have canines and incisors (sp?)

Na i love the smell of dead babie... i mean bacon in the morning. ;)

Saying that though, i'm currently on a chicken, veg and fruit regime atm. No bacon, sasauges (damnit... i have never spelt it before) or any crappy food for me!

Vegans are the worst.

I honestly don't see the problem with eating meat. So animals are killed for it. Why should I care, What Measures as an Equal to a Human? Not a Cow, Pig, or any other animal that we eat for meat. It's the circle of life.
It may not be about killing an animal. Cows take a lot more food to make then it gives us back. We give them so so much wheat and grain which could be used to feed nearly everyone else. Plus the environmental issues such as we cut down trees to make a farm and they release so much gasses.

Hmm, that could be dangerous to restrict yourself with so much food. You need a lot of lentils and fiber.

People can survive on liquids. We're not supposed to, but if we can live healthily just with fruit and vegetable juices and such, do we need that meat?

Actually, I found with my type of body it's more healthy for m to give up meat altogether. Researching so much into food I've realized meat is quite pointless other then taste. It seems pretty unnecessary for me to eat it. I have the choice to harm the environment and support a company that has no good behind it, or have the choice to not do that at all. I choose the latter. I feel this way I have more control in what I eat and what I am doing with my body and this world. Kinda spiritual too I guess.

If people think it's morally wrong to eat animals, then I have to say that they're wrong. If it's because of religion, your god put other animals on this earth for you to eat. It's called the food chain, you need it to survive. Animals in nature must eat each other, and we are no different. If your god thought it was wrong, he would have made humans herbivores. Same thing if you do it out of principle. No one will frown at you for eating something to survive.
Because of society we've skipped the chain. We have no reason to put ourselves into these categories anymore.

Human rights reasons. Something like 90% of grain produced goes to feeding livestock for meat, which I think is a wasteful cycle, because all that excess could be given to the poor peoples of the world to solve global hunger. Also, because I live in Australia, I think that the damage done to the environment and native animals by irrigation and grazing land is especially pertinent.
Aha! Those are the numbers I needed! This is what I've come to learn. I do not want to be apart of this.

I actually tried to go vegetarian, for environmental reasons, but I couldn't stick with it. I didn't like the taste of some vegetarian food, and I longed for meat. I also love eating ribs.
Make your own. Learn more choices. I hate Tofu, my girlfriend hates a numerous amount of vegetables. but we eat so so much tasty food you couldn't even get with meat.

Try fasting for a while. It seems pretty stupid but really works. It cleanses your diet; sort of like a reset button. Doesn't draw you to so many foods as before.

i could never be a vegatarian. I don't understand them, I love meat. "We hate eating living beings!" Is a terrible argument, we don't know if plants are sentient. Maybe the copper in their structure has memory storing/sorting capacity. So I don't understand the logic of being a vegatarian, unless it has to do with a medical condition.

I can understand political and health, but environmental? Eating excess plants is worse for the environment, those plants are heliping to filter carbon dioxide into oxygen, why would you increase the consumption of that resource? To increase its production rates and thus have us grow more? That's basically the only sense I can get out of it...
has no one heard of crop rotations. A lot of people bring up this argument. Plus, cows seem to eat more crops then we do. We could be feeding so many more people with it. Plus, shipping cows back and forth to butchers, slaughter houses, farms, other farms, is a waste. Clearing land to make creatures that spill their gasses in our atmosphere. It's very harming. I had a book on it (and wishes I still did so I can fill you in with numbers).

One: I don't like beef, its disgusting and as a friend of mine once said "Cows are trying to destroy the earth; they release methane, they kill people, they eat grass that converts carbon dioxide into oxygen!"
Two: Read the last bit of my statement.
Three: I don't have a three...

I'm not a vegetarian. But I could easily be one. I don't enjoy the taste of meat enough to justify all the negatives which are best summed up by the OP.

Although, to be honest, I'm not quite aware of the political aspect. Also - and obviously the accuracy of this claim is dependent on a whole host of other factors - isn't it cheaper to be a vegetarian? I'm using my (potentially faulty) intuition here.

Why I'm not a vegetarian (yet) is that I still live at home with my parents and siblings and becoming a vegetarian might rock the boat a bit too much. I currently rock it enough.

I did that with soda. Couldn't even stand the smell. Then I turned 21 and started drinking alcohol; you can't have that without soda.

Political reasons as we could be feeding so so many more people in the world with all the grain we feed to cows. Major companies also destroy so much and cause such cruelty to animals to gain maximum profit, something I can not agree with. Meat is not a scarce commodity in the world, but a lot of food we have and yet stock less, because of the meat industry and people buying so much of that meat, it is harder to do so.

Hmm, so it does work. I basically have done that as I've not drunk Coke and other drinks in ages. Though I do have some carbonated products here and there. I should really stop. Hmm, I love pastries though. Such good taste. I think I can give up all lollies and capitalized food though.

I used to be semi-vegetarian when I was much younger. Only fish and fowl, no red meat.
Then I went to a friend's house, and came home telling my mother about how much tastier the spagetti bolognaise made by my friend's mother was.
We sort of abandoned all pretenses of vegetarianism after that.

I would be interested in becoming a vegetarian again. I mean, I have sometimes gone days without food and suddenly found broccoli delicious. It's just that it's so much easier - both for me and everyone around me - to stay omnivorous.
I don't want people cooking special vegetarian meals specifically for me, you know?

I drank a gallon of distilled water everyday for 6 months in replacement. Besides the soda, tap water will taste like it's being siphoned from a swimming pool.
