Reporting you for insulting America as well.

How about linking to a site that DOESN'T discriminate against people outside the US? There's nothing quite like yet ANOTHER site/source that punishes me based on where I live.

Modern TVs? Only one of my TVs can be called "modern". And I'm the one in my circle of friends who sprung the most on a new TV.

Reporting you for being a troll who completely discounts the idea that people exist outside eagle land.

WTF are you talking about? Are you really telling me that the $300 PC I built doesn't count because you can't use newegg? Are you really trying to be that petty? I don't need to find a canadian pc component retailer just so suit you. People said PCs are more expensive than consoles, I proved that not to always be the case. Just because you can't order from newegg doesn't make that any less true.

And seriously. http://www.newegg.ca/

It's not that hard to search. You just wanted to complain.

My PC was total shit, so i had to resort to my 360 and Gamecube. But now that I have a standard laptop, I'm on it more than on my 360.

Yes, it's not my job to do your research for you. Prove your own damn points.

Here's what I found.
8800GT - $28.
E6750 - Out of stock
MSI G41M - $46
GSkill Rijaw 4GB RAM - $50
LOGISYS 550W PSU - $30
LITE-ON Black 18 DVD Drive - $18
Microsoft Keyboard and Mouse - $35
WD 500gb HD - $50
Total: $237.44

With S&H, taxes, etc: $323.01.

I don't even have all the hardware. The missing hardware is one of the most expensive of the lot. this would put it over the $400 mark easily. If the original price is accurate.

Let's be real. This is without the monitor. And I my 360 cost $130~ with tax included.

Some of the components I posted were on ebay. The whole point of the post was to show that you can build a PC for around the same cost of a console. Just because you don't possess the skills to find the right deals doesn't mean others don't. I already proved that it's easily possible to do it. Plus you get more than just a gaming machine with a PC.

You're just grasping at straws here.

why buy consoles?

i've been playing and tinkering with PC ever since i was 4 years old (yes 4), there werent any games at all back then but it still drew me in (playing around with ws7, lotus, etc). plus, my folks wont buy us children any gaming system because it'd be a waste of money and were better off studying. and for that, i'm grateful.

Yes, today's PC does cost a lot! i just bought a new one for around US$1000. but i'm happy about it, it's my passion. and being a PC gamer all my life has improved my thinking ability A LOT! back when i had to burn my brain playing red alert, aoe, etc; building a rig manually, etc. and thus makes me feel ultra comfortable gaming on a PC. so i guess it all falls down on preferences and experience.

and besides gaming, PC is always needed to do daily stuff such as work or assignments. so double win for me! and when people complain about system requirements, bugs, hardware malfunctions, it drives me to find solutions, which gives me new knowledge and know-hows which will be useful in the future. so there you go, i love PC because it makes me think, work, and learn lots of new stuff.

but, if i had more money, i'd definitely buy a PS3 for their exclusives. i will never buy an xbox, they're ruining PC games, but devs and publishers need money.. if someone gave me one for free, i'd sell it in a heartbeat.

dont you just miss the old days when PC and consoles had their own games..

1. To avoid having to mess around with system requirements and end up with a choppy frame rate anyway.

2. To get away from Steam. It's good in theory, but endless updates to download are more frustrating than helpful.

3. For a more streamlined gaming experience, without the need to constantly update your rig.

An ebay listed price is not a reliable source for pricing something.

Yes, but as I said. Almost any person available has a tv lying around. It might not be the most up-to-date TV but it's A TV.

Even WITH a $100 or cheaper TV I get the system for measurably less. You know, the TV I probably already would have.

Another reason I game on console: To avoid having to buy off Steam.

I mean, I don't play Prototype for fun, I play it to feel superior to people who don't own a 360. The only pleasure I derive from playing it comes from the knowledge that PC gamers aren't devouring soldiers.
That would have worked better if you'd used a came that wasn't available on the PC.

At the moment, consoles provide a hassle-free, standardized system (that packs a serious punch for the price), allowing a much cheaper alternative to the computationally disinclined.
PS3 at the moment is $300 USD, Xbox is at $250 USD, and the Wii is only $200 USD, so it is much cheaper, and you never have to deal with compatibility issues, as long as you have basic symbol matching skills.

I have both a PS3 and a gaming PC, and I have to say I've spent more on the PS3. It cost me $450 when I first got it, and I didn't have a HD TV to play it on, so that was another $700 on top of that, wheras I built my current PC for about $400 a year ago and it will run any new release game without much trouble.

It's a core i5 running at 3.20 ghz with an Nvidia GTS 450, 3gb of DDR3 ram and a 1 TB of HDD space. It's not hard to build a computer like that for less then $400 if you do a little bit of research, and it's more versatile then my PS3, which I enjoy, but use less often then my PC.

As for compatibility, I've never had any issues with anything I've bought not being able o run, either from steam or retail.

WARNING LIFE-STORY:
Because i'm a dumb a- (well i don't know the rules for these forums but you know what i meant)
I got an xbox and just went with it for 2-3 years, then i bought a ps3 thinking oh this will be so much better cos online is free and i can convert all my friends to xbox and i drove all around with my poor a- ... poor friend to get somewhat less of a rip off at gamestop for like all his games (went up $100 for going to the one by my house) then no one had a mic and that lasted till 2 weeks after BlOps came out.

Now i have a mac that probably won't play most current gen games, (assassins creed 1 plays so la- a- gy) I don't use it for anything but youtube stuff.

I play consoles because I can stick my game in it, and 99% of the time it works. No troubleshooting or any things like that. To me, it seems like I need a huge amount of technical knowledge about hard and software to play games on PC.

The modding does sound cool though.

Controller easier to use for most genres (and works perfectly fine for others like FPSs where mouse and keyboard are arguably better)
Console exclusives
Generally cheaper
Don't have to worry about system specs

I could go on but I'm confident its all been said already

How are you enjoying Red Dead Redemption, PC elitists? Oh, wait...

Sorry, too busy playing The Witcher, X3 Terran Conflict, SC2, Amnesia, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and waiting for The Witcher 2, DCS: A-10C, Hawken and the Black Mesa project.

Oh, and let's not forget ArmA.

Why do people have this convoluted idea that the PC has no exclusives?
