I see no reason to use a console at all. Never had one never will.
I'm a tech guy, I like tinkering with stuff. And I like modding.

The PC has superior graphics, cheaper games, modding capability, I don't have to replace the whole thing as it age, etc...
I thought PCs had to be replaced because of age all the time? Or at least parts like graphics cards to keep up with modern gaming specs?

consoles are easier to use, require no 'upgrades' to play games, i can play from my bed, it doesnt take up much room in comparison to a computer.

also using a console console needs virtually no tech know-how to use,

cheaper

and im my opinion better games

Wat. Yes you do?
Only if you don't know anything about computers. It's childsplay to just replace the parts needing replacement.
Childs play for someone like you who has obviously used PCs for gaming since the invention of gaming. Someone like me definitely couldn't go out and buy and install a new graphics card. You might think "Oh, what a retarded console user." but that isn't fair, because I've never done it before. The most you ever have to do with a console is turn it on and download an update.

Yeah, but you are still replacing things. I'm sure the total cost will end up higher than that of a console.

Just a technicality though.

Same reason that Beta tapes beat VHS tapes while that game was still going - Consoles are more convenient to the average Joe than a computer, and the average Joe is becoming much more interested in games while not so much in the machine that he uses to play them.

Because I prefer consoles. That's why. It's not a matter of one being better than the other it's just that I'm set in my ways and hate gaming on a computer.

I only own my 360 and PS3 to catch the few exclusives that I will be interested in, although the 360 is kind of unnecessary now.

Rest of it is on the PC.

Depends on how savvy you are when you're shopping for parts, how well you future-proof, how many games you buy (the £10-£15 difference - not taking into account Steam sales and such - adds up quickly), the need for a computer anyway (even if you don't use it for gaming), etc.

The point there was that there are parts I never have to replace. Chassis, fans, hardrives. When you buy a new console you get new everything, whether you like it or not.

Replacing a graphics card is little more than pulling out a card from a slot and inserting a new, provided that you're willing to spend some time learning the basics.

And sooner or later you'll get to a point where the hardware in the console just doesn't cut it anymore, and you have to replace the whole thing, even if it was just the graphics card that got too old.

Also be aware that there's a certain stigma placed on PC, Oh no it's only tech geeks that can understand how to upgrade a PC. It's much easier than most people believe. It all pretty much comes down to circle in the round hole, cube in the square hole.

I buy consoles because I like controllers, and I like sitting on my couch to play. I have yet to find a mouse that works well without a desk. And I have tried, many times.

Also, I like being able to put a game in my console and just play it. I hate troubleshooting sound card and video card issues to start playing my game. I did that for years. No more.

If 6 years ago I could have bought a gaming PC for $300 and have it play current AAA games, I would have.

That is impossible, so I stick with consoles. Plus, all you have to do to play games is put the disk in. PC gaming has hoops to jump through.

If you think you bought a gaming PC 6 years ago for $300 and it still plays current AAA games at high settings, don't bother quoting me, I won't believe you.

EDIT: Plus, the PC exclusive games that I care about are few. Civilization and Dawn of War seem to be the only big titles. Plus I can't play the newest versions of them on my old $600 PC. Sadface.
Where was the $300 console 6 years ago? I had to drop $400 on a xbox $100 on wireless another $60 so I could access my MP content not to mention a 40" LCD from 6 years ago was $2500. So for the cost a a uber bad ass PC from 10 years ago is the same I had to pay to play a console from 6 years ago.

There are good reasons for that:

2. Controllers, while you may be able to play with controllers on the PC versions, the console versions just feel more natural, vibration, keyed in controls so you rarely have to change or tweek anything.
That's one of the main reasons why I don't use a PC for gaming, the other one being I don't own my own computer.
With a console I don't have to look down at the controller every once and a while to find the button/key that I need to push. And in the heat of battle, I'm far less likely to hit the 'switch weapon' key when I meant to hit the 'reload' key, or to hit the 'throw grenade' button when I meant to hit the 'take cover' or 'run like *****' button.
Funny that, I find the same thing when I play my brother's Xbox or one of my sister's consoles. I don't know where any of the buttons or triggers and stuff are. I find it much easier to use the mouse and keyboard because I'm acclimatised to them.

I've never owned a console, always a PC, mostly as a tool that can do gaming, but recently (last three years) I've splurged a bit on GPUs to make my machines more game friendly. Mind you GPUs have dropped in price compared to the old days. The main reason I don't have a console are:
a) I don't like controllers, because I'm not used to them. I have a dual shock type one that I use for Sensible Soccer and VR Soccer 96 but nothing else (I guess if I played fighting games I'd use it for that too but I loath fighting games). I have a wheel for driving games though, I can't enjoy them on a keyboard, but I can't use a controller either, it has to be a wheel.
b) I have a powerful computer at hand, I might as well buy a GPU for it and put it to work. That's just me being a photographer combined with a genetic disposition to souping up my tools and severe G.A.S. though.
c) I don't have a comfortable couch or a big TV. The couch is comfortable enough, but my office chair is nicer. My TV is a 12 year old 26" 4x3 CRT. It doesn't compare to my monitor.

I think I do tend to look down at people that can't build a PC or troubleshoot windows though, because those things are so simple to me. I'm sure console gamers would look down at me because I never block in fighting games and tend to jump randomly spamming the one attack button I can reliably find.

Just cause it's simpler and cheaper in comparison to building and maintaining a gaming rig in both the short and long term. Leaves you more money for games if you don't have to shell out for new components every couple of years.

A mediocre trained monkey can change a graphics card. or even build a whole PC i learned it with 10yrs just by reading the manual. Motherboard here, harddrive in that slot, graphics in there, ram in there, put the cables together , Profit.

I have more money sunk in my console entertainment than I do my PC's over the past 6 years. Consoles over time ended up costing me over $1800 dollars more so far than PC gaming this gen.

It all depends on which one you're more invested into. Though I usually see that a console is more future-proof than a gaming PC by a mile.

- No worries about system requirements.
- No worries about spending money for those said requirements.
- No DRM.
- Though this generation kind of fucked it up... Consoles used to be easy and fun plug 'n play.
- Easier for local co-op or multiplayer: pick up a controller and join the fun.
- And lastly: the games -> LittleBigPlanet, Resistance, Uncharted, Lost Odyssey, Okami, Viewtiful Joe, Shadow Hearts, Shin Megami Tensei, etc.

And more personally: I use my computers to WORK. On my left side, I've got an iMac with Final Cut for movie editing and a Cintiq hooked up for all my Adobe needs. On my right, I've got a i7 laptop with 16 gig RAM for programming and 3D modeling. When I want to relax, when I want to play a game, I do NOT want to be reminded of work, so I go AWAY from my working station. On a couch, with a controller in my hand, in front of a decade old 4:3 TV.

Now THAT is how I play!

Consoles offer a much better convenience and price than PC. Buy the console you want, buy the games you want. Nothing else you have to worry about getting in the way. PC I've only had problems trying to get my computer to work with them. A lot of people talk about "oh a braindead monkey could build a computer" but they take a lot of things that they've just come to accept for granted. It's a lot more complex and more trouble than it's worth for somebody new.

Also for me the controller is far superior to a mouse and keyboard too. I do much better in Halo than I do in TF2. Both good games but I'll take a controller anyday.

It use to seem that way and thats why I always have had consoles in the house for that reason, but after the multiple hardware failures we saw on our 360's and PS3's and only 2 were covered under warranty it cost me a pretty penny replacing the wifes and I's consoles multiple times.
My wifes PC I got her 7 years ago is still viable today due to lifetime warranty on parts, its been updated to a quad AMD with 2 9600's in SLI for no cost to me when a part fails.

Also games being $60 new and me having to buy 2 copies of each vs steam were I can usually get packs for about 20% of new right away and them being $10 cheaper per copy on most games it saves me a lot just buying PC games and if I get steam sales its even cheaper.

At this point it seems PC and consoles are doing a flip flop on the cost.
