Why did simpsons never make a single joke or comment on president Bush?

Wasn't there an entire episode where he moved across the street from the Simpsons and didn't get along with Homer and Bart?

I think they did once where president bush moved next to the simpsons and they started fighting each other well bart and homer did.
May of been a different president not 100% sure.
That was his father

maybe cause everyone was making jokes about bush and the simpsons is more high brow than that
That's viewing it in retrospect. They made the episodes during that time not after.

viewing what in retrospect? not sure what your getting at. all i said was at the time people, basically every one at some point seemed to be making bush is dumb jokes etc. so the simpsons didnt have too.

if you hear a joke 100 times no matter how funny the first time was the 100th is going to be boring.

President who? Why not join us in the present mate?
I didn't have a lot of thread name space so I said "president bush" so everyone would get who I meant

Really? Constantly? Okay lay some constant examples on me. How about 8-10 for starters and we can work from there.

I think the people saying that Simpson is on fox has a good point though. That would very well be the reason.

I'm from Europe so I have no insight into what shows on what and what channel supports what party. All I know is we have simpsons about 3-4 times a day here so I have seen every episode there is several times over and something that is universal is that they never make any jokes about Bush. The closest they ever get is "The government knows best act" and at the end of the navy recruitment episode where Homer says "Anything's possible with Commander Cuckoo-Bananas in charge"
Rather suprisingly most of the anti bush jabs were pretty indirect, actually pointing them out is a little hard, but as was said them being on Fox had a bit to do with them using less overt jokes.

One that stands out in my mind is during a past episode (that is one taking place in the past) they refer to Clinton and say something to the effect of:
Homer: At least we know we'll never have a worse president.
Marge: Nope, never.

Meh, Letterman took enough shots at Bush to satisfy me. I didn't really notice the Simpsons not doing it.

Um, bearing in mind what network the Simpsons was on, and who owns it, well...
Bearing in mind how much they spoofed the right and how they got away with it, well....

Episode: That 90's Show: "The 90's are almost over and we know for sure there will never be a worse president than Clinton. Never."

I messed up that quote since I haven't seen the episode in over a year, but that's clearly a joke about Bush even though it doesn't mention his name. There are probably more, but you gotta lsiten to what they don't say as much as what they do say sometimes.

I remember 2 jokes about him in Seasons 19. One about the Republican Party saying "They better not find those ballet boxes in Ohio (or some place similar... sorry don't live in the USA)". Another one where Homer's telling a story about his past and he says "Well at-least there will never be a worst President than Bill Clinton"

They also make fun of George Bush a number of times in the Futurama Movie series. One where Bender goes back in time and shoots Al Gore's ballet box.

As a personal note... the recent Simpsons are really.... really.... dumbed down. Before it was very witty humour... now... it's just.... boring! That is all.

I don't watch the Simpsons. However, it being on Fox has jack-shit to do with politics. Family Guy's brazen anti-conservatism is proof of this.

It's not about it being on Fox, they've mocked plenty of stuff Fox likes. Just yesterday I saw an episode where Cheney lived inside an inactive volcano, his house surrounded by high walls with barbed wire and security cameras, further guarded by guards in black uniforms carrying automatic weapons. A short while later he erased Smithers memories MIB-style. Suggesting Cheney is on par with a Bond villain probably wouldn't fly on the rest of the network.

Could you please be more specific? The Simpsons did a joke about A president Bush. In fact, they devoted an entire episode to him called "Two Bad Neighbors", with Bart and George H. W. Bush adopting roles similar to Dennis the Menace and Mr. Wilson respectively. From what I recall, the Bush family and the Simpsons writers have been on less than congenial terms since then.

Read more here. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Two_Bad_Neighbors]

Youtube doesn't have any good clips up, here's a few pics

Yeah, I'm pretty sure somewhere between the network Simpsons is aired on in the US, and the fact you don't appear to have actually been paying attention, something has been missed completely.
Maybe you missed it because it wasn't spelled out perfectly for you?
Fox is airs family guy. Seth MacFarlane is a liberal democrat and consistently lampoons (R)'s.... I don't think that's the case here.

you may have answered your question partially with that Europe part. If you watch translated versions you will miss a lot of the Jokes. Especially the german translators are pretty bad or just make up new stuff often.

Is Groenings personal politics bleeding through his work or did Bush never do anything that offered a comedic opening for a sketch or joke?
why care?

So, to answer the question in the OP, they DID make jokes about President Bush, both of them, and the OP just didn't see them.

Not sure when The Simpsons was ever supposed to be political satire anyway.

Kids thinking that they know anything about the Simpsons.

Some history for you kiddie. The heyday for the Simpsons was in the reign of George H Bush, Bush 1, NOT Dubya (Bush 2). And they were hated so stridently by not only President Bush, but his wife Barbara Bush, that Barbara Bush campaigned directly against the Simpons for years trying to get it taken off the air.

Yes. You read that correctly. The first lady trying for years to get a show taken off the air. NONE of the shows that criticised the 2nd Bush's presidency came anywhere CLOSE to that.

And tell me this. Please. Answer me this. How did you MISS THE EPISODE THAT HAS (recently retired) PRESIDENT GEORGE H BUSH AS THE MAIN GUEST STAR/VILLAIN!!!

IT'S ONE OF THE MOST WELL KNOWN SIMPSONS EPISODES OF THE FIRST SIX SEASONS, HOW COULD YOU MAKE THIS TOPIC AND NOT REFER TO IT EVEN ONCE. THE EPISODE WITH PRESIDENT BUSH IN IT.

Ok, calmed down a bit, I'll try to type normally again. I'm talking about the episode where Homer starts a feud with President Bush (after Bush moves in across the street in order to retire and write his memoirs). The two of them get increasingly fed up with each other until they end up getting in an extended fist fight and Bush Snr has to move out. How could you not refer to that?

What you're forgetting is that the ENTIRE FIRST FIVE SEASONS of the Simpsons was basically an anti-Bush comment. They didn't NEED to refer to them directly, because the whole concept of the show (highly original at that point in time) was anti-republican - the idea of having a start who is a lazy, alcoholic slob was a major controversy among conservatives who called for it to be taken off the air because they couldn't handle having an 'everyman' being heroised.

I remember watching an interview with Groenig around 6 seasons in, where he's being asked about Barbara Bush's campaign against them. He said that apparently he and one of the writers actually bumped into Barbara Bush at an event one time, and he smiled and waived to Ms Bush assuming that she was only pretending to hate them for the sake of playing politics. Nope, apparently she really was offended by the whole concept of the show and made her views rather clear:).

Next time you ask 'why hasn't x show made any jokes about President Bush?' pick a show that WASN'T upsetting Bush presidents back when YOUR president Bush was still a drunken fratboy.
