Okay. For your curiosity I write novels, novlets, poetry and music, with a small bit of graphic arts on the side - though that's pretty rare for me nowadays.
Neato. Do you write music by yourself in the solo guitar / vocals kinda setup, or do you play in a band? In both regarding the music and your writing, any luck with commercial publishing, or have you mostly found the internet a more accessible means?

---

ON the general topic, I never really followed the game in question, but my understanding as to why it "failed" was a lack of money, time and continued support to realize their hopes for the project and making a high fantasy combat-oriented RPG, they naturally had a lot of entrenched business competition...

I have hopes for the possibilites of this Warhammer 40k MMO in development, focusing on large scale PVP and vehicle combat... *crosses fingers*

What did Portal copy?
Narbacular Drop - Staring Princess "No Knees"

Valve hired the ND team to make Portal, in short.

If every single FPS ever released used the exact same engine, content, setting, and played pretty much exactly the same except with the occasional added or missing feature, they would be.
You've lost me. Are you saying every MMO uses the same engine and has the same content and setting as WoW?
well lets strip it down to its core physics puzzles first person view cool gun use to help solve puzzles just google all of that im sure you get some type of list
edit:actually just check temporally forgot about portal2 recent release so all i got were reviews

Because it was a poorer WoW clone.
You do not beat WoW at its own game.
Because WoW was the first MMO with quests, classes, PvP, different races and various crafting skills.

Oh wait... It wasn't.
No, but it's the most polished. That's why it is its own game.

Presumably because they chose the wrong Warhammer franchise to make an MMO out of.
They should've gone with the futuristic one. You know, the good one. The popular one.

The one that's getting all the other games.
That's a good point. I agree, when I think of Warhammer I think of space marines and large guns.

Narbacular Drop was made by the same person that made Portal - the latter being a sort of spiritual sequel.

That's subjective.
What's subjective? That it's the most polished? I would say the 10 million subscribers is pretty clear evidence there.

Ok, then I'm willing to try and engage you despite your completely ignoring any valid points made over the course of the conversation about what qualifies something as an industry standard, and the fact that what does qualify is not a matter of opinion. In order to engage you on your level I have a simple proposition, what ( in your opinion ) is the industry standard for MMO's, and as this seems to have been you biggest beef so far, WHY?

Given your standard response to anyone else's suggestions, I expect a 2,000 word essay as supporting evidence, with detailed analysis of the industry as a whole and a detailed survey of industry professionals demonstrating that you are correct and we're all wrong.

Not EVERY MMO, but close enough, yeah. That's exactly what I was saying.

Here are my theory on why W.A.R failed.

Hype meets a gmae that requirres a lot of players.
Everything in the game, above all else the pvp, which was the main selling point of the game, requirred the participation of a lot of players. The Solo Content was boring. Pvp was awsome.

In the first months, everything went well, since the initial hype provided enough players.
But the aformentioned patching, nerfing and above all lack of server capability to handle throughly massive pvp-actions scared away people.

The concept of the game had the potential for success and in the end was crippled by a lousy execution.

Wow demonstrated that execution is key, since Wow's concept was boring uninspired and ripped off every single MMO there has ever been. But it had been executed so well, that it was an instant hit.

You can see this in every popular product there is. From McDonalds over Jack Daniels to Call of Duty: Good ideas are not important. You don't need to be original, if you can do something old extremely well.

Because the game was accused of being a WoW clone and had no endgame. It was terribly disappointing.

1. It seems like WoW...

2. The 3rd video lacked... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sO_QntXc-c4

3. (wikipedia) Collision detection
Warhammer Online features collision detection, a feature that is designed to prevent players from moving through other player characters. This feature works on enemy units as well as friendly units that are flagged for RvR combat. Collision detection enhances the role played by heavily armored characters known as "tanks", as it helps them become far more efficient at holding choke points and protecting weaker players in their group such as healers and casters.
Sounds like a massive griefer tool....
DDO always had collision detection(good to keep mages safe) but then again DDO is not your usual MMO
Because its fun?

(I liked the controls....becomes hilarious fun at lower levels w/ 3 melee steamrolling over the dungeons for free stuff :] )

That's subjective.
Oh Jesus H. Christ, stop it. It is the mot polished MMO out there because Blizzard has the most money to throw at it. It's -fine- if you don't like the game, man, but seriously, let it go. The whole point is that enough OTHER people think it's the best MMO out there that companies are trying to copy it. I don't think you have a firm grasp on what's subjective and what's objective. You seem to be confusing the general truth of the industry ("copy what's popular") with people being fanboyish over WoW.
