Why did you join the Escapist?

My reason was basically the same as yours.

Yahtzee had brought me here. I stayed to watch all of his videos and then I lurked some for a while. Off and on. And then I realized I didn't have any general forums and wanted another. And the off topic section seemed nice.

So I signed up.

Someone showed me Yahtzee, which brought me to the site and then to the forums. After seeing all the interesting things people had to say, and the general absence of idiocy, I created an account.

Like most of the uncool people here, ZP brought me to this site. I spent a few years lurking, then I decided to pop my head in and take a look. I liked what I saw and the rest is history.

I had been watching Yahtzee, Big Picture, and Jimquisition for a few years now. Then one day a few months, I figured why not join up on the site. Yeah...not much else really.

I joined because I was going to the escapist expo, so I figured I'd try to meet some of the people who might be going. I used to come here before I had an account to watch MOS and Zero punctuation though.

I'm not really sure who I watched on the escapist first. I knew of Yahtzee before Gav, but I think I mostly watched his stuff on Youtube... It was probably Miracle of Sound because I thought watching his stuff on the site would help out more idk.

I know I only started watching Movie Bob and the Jimquisition because I figured I should check out their stuff before the expo.

The people here are pretty cool so I decided to stay.

But my friend introduced me to Zero Punctuation and for some reason joined the forums.

I came and stayed for Zero Punctuation. I actually made an account because there was some giveaway going on and some other stuff on the site looked interesting (that little thing that shows recent threads is partly what clinched it, because it kept showing interesting and intriguing topics).

Now I watch Zero Punctuation, LRR, Feed Dump, Escape To The Movies, The Big Picture, listen to Media Sandwich and the Escapist Podcast, and hang around the forums being way more honest than I really should.

I guess I first found my way here because someone told me about Yahtzee and I wanted to see. Truth be told if it was not for the other articles and videos I probable would of never looked back and left. But I enjoyed quite of bit of what the site had and stayed.

Now if by join you mean create a profile, well their is only one reason for that. Badges...quite simple at the time I had no want to post on the forums, as I am a shy person by nature and even to this day have issues deciding to post ANYTHING (getting better at putting my words out there, but still). The badges however seemed like a fun little thing so I could get some for watching vids and doing quizzes. It wasn't till a while later that I started reading certain forums, and then even later till I made some posts.

A few years back, my friend introduced me to Zero Punctuation. I checked it out and thought it was pretty funny. I didn't make an account until like a year after that. back in like 2010. I didn't begin actively commenting on threads probably until about late 2010 to early 2011.
I remember mainly because the Escapist marked a slow but significant change in the way I viewed countries outside of the U.S, and made me question my current moral values and religion and become more serious about both of them.
