The new album is good, but I still give it to Purgatory Dance Party. Pure Bedlum for Halfbreeds is me and my friend's jam. Chloroform Girl is a great sing along song though. Todd Smith's voice is like sex, and I feel comfortable enough as a straight man to admit that.

I'm assuming you have heard of Todd Smith's (multiple) other bands, yes? Knives Out, El Creepo, The Altar Boys, and his old band before Polkadot, Dog Fashion Disco?
Dog Fashion Disco and The Alter Boys yes, and after a quick Google search I can deduce that I would like Knives Out! and El Creepo! as well.

I'll say Todd Smith is one of the most talented vocalists I've heard. I think the only other man who would have anything on him is Mike Patton.
Agree 100%. Mike Patton is my idol. I'm a vocalist myself, and I always say that if I could have just a fraction of his talent, I'd be completely content with life. Both Mike and Todd can do everything, from lounge style crooning to death metal growls, and everything in between. It isn't fair!

But yeah, if you like DFD, PC, and The Altar Boys, you'll probably like El Creepo and Knives out. All of Todd's music is similar in enough ways to make them all likable, but different enough to justify him having about 18 different projects.

Bands evolve. That's what life is like. You gotta adapt or die.
Clearly, you know nothing about music.

Panic!'s Beatle's knockoff? Awful.

PM5K's transition to crappy pop-punk? Terrible.

St. Anger? Well, just ask any Metallica fan.

New Linkin Park? Homogenous, generic and just so much worse than what they used to be. Claiming they've "evolved" is bullcrap. Going from a sound you could actually identify to becoming even more generic is not musical evolution.

The best thing to come out of Linkin Park since Meteora is the Pendulum remix of The Catalyst.
The Beatles, Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club
Bob Dylan, Bringing it all back home
everything Charles Ives wrote after 1900
The Dillinger Escape Plan, Miss Machine
Mr. Bungle, California
Frank Zappa, Jazz From Hell
Meshuggah, Destroy Erase Improve
Bumblefoot, 9.11
Van Halen, 5150
Nirvana, Nevermind
all examples of why nothing good happens when artists do something different
OT: I used to like Linkin Park before my balls dropped and I learned about music, but then I kinda grew out of them.

Bands don't have to evolve or die, they evolve or fade out, remaining only with the fan base that has loved them from the beginning.

What better audience would you want to perform to?

The only benefit to selling out (adapting) is more income, and more fame, and honestly neither of those are worth the sacrifice in musicianship.

I have never like Linkin Park

I cannot tell you how hard it was for me to track down the Dillinger Escape Plan EP with Mike Patton providing the vocals.
I like to think of myself as a vocalist as well, but my talents are better relegated to those "hardcore-pop" sounds like A Day To Remember, so I try to rely more on my actual talent, which is writing.

Oh hey, look at us going off-topic. Anyway.

Yeah, I think Linkin Park is okay. But I already said that.

I spent a long time tracking that down as well, but it was totally worth it. Wish he had done some more stuff with DEP.

But yes, back to Linkin Park. Great in the beginning, okay now. I don't think they can recapture their first album's glory.

Although I did state that people said that, that's what I've heard. I was wondeirng if anyone had any different reasons.

And I can agree that it's a bit whiny, but they've always been a bit whiny. When I first heard Waiting For The End (a dark winter morning before heading off to school) I was confused as hell. I didn't think it was them. But it was them. And though it sounded different, it wasn't the different that My Chemical Romance became. Linkin Park are still Linkin Park. My Chemical Romance became an entirely different band.
They've always been whiny, but their sound was at least somewhat unique when they first came on the scene. Now the only thing I can call them is generic. Generic, whiny, and lacking what little edge they did have. There's way better music out there.

I use to love them, but that changed once I wasn't 12 anymore. I like their old stuff every now and then though (if a song pops up on shuffle on my iPod, great). I really didn't like Minutes to Midnight. However, I do like A Thousand Suns, though it took me a few listens to get used to it. I think the main gripe people have with it is they don't like the singles. They'll chuck on a random song from the album, not like it, change to another track, not like it, etc. A Thousand Suns is an album that has to be listened to the whole way through. There are beats, time signatures, lyrics, etc, that are repeated throughout, and to really get an entire understanding and overall appreciation, you have to listen from start to finish in one sitting. Long car drives are great for this album. It's not the same sound as Meteora or Hybrid Theory, not by a long shot. It's a more, dare I say, mature sound.

So: Meteora - Yes
Hybrid Theory - Yes
Minutes to Midnight - No
A Thousand Suns -Yes

I don't like their new stuff because it's whiny, emo, generic and all that. Those things don't appeal to me.

I didn't like their old stuff because it just wasn't very good.

I still listen to a few of their older songs such as Faint, Somewhere I belong, Breaking the Habit, Papercut and In the End when I want to feel all nostalgia-y, but I listen to a lot of other stuff now.

This, essentially. I've always liked their vocalists.

Never liked any of their new stuff that I listened too besides Leave out All the Rest.

I was not a fan of Minutes to Midnight, but I did like Thousand Suns. I also like their first two albums, as well as Reanimation (The remix of Forgotten is amazing, one of my all-time favourite songs).

A lot of people don't like them because they are whiny and haven't even actually listened to it, and there are people who simply don't like their music. In the end, it doesn't matter who does and doesn't, as they still have enough fans to keep (Ish) making more music.

I liked them when I was an angsty teen. But now that I've grown out of that I see it for what it is. Whiny emo crap and I don't want to hear it.

My fellow Excapists, what do you think about their newer music?
Middle aged men shouldn't try to be "down with the kids" unless it's in parody.

These guys miss the boat so hard, they become the iceberg.

Oh my god. This thread should just be called "Why do people not like the things I like!?" and every thread like this from now on.

OT: Personally I only like one or two of their songs and don't really keep up with their albums.
