Why is it the American movie and television producers feel the need to continue to extend TV show series and movie series until their is absolutely NO life left in them?
I've just heard that they are making Indiana Jones 5 and their is a SAW 5 soon to be relesed.
I love I.J (even the 4th movie), but enough is enough. Let the movies rest in peace and be remembered for being great movies, not over exposed and produced garbage, whats worse is that Harrison Ford isn't even going to be in it.
SAW 5, granted i haven't seen 4 yet and don't know whether this is meant to follow on but please, the first 3 were great (3rd to a lesser extent). Why can't you move on and produce a new movie series instead?
Eventually, people just get sick of the movie/show.
Two and a half men = 1,2,3 all great, 4 gets a bit old, 5... please stop.
BRITISH COMEDY - TBH, I'm not a fan of British comedy, but to its credit they don't over expose their shows. Anyone know 'Black Books'? That could be th funniest show on TV and do you know why? Because it ran for 3 seasons and then stopped making episodes. It will be remembered as great Television.
Please someone Why do American producers have to ruin their shows?

Just American? In Australia we had something called "McCloud's Daughters" which ended more like "McCloud's second cousins twice removed".

It's a common thing. I could even call on games with the same tenacity to continue a series. The point is really quite simple. Out of the millions of produced content that exists, only a select handful is actually popular. So if this select handful is popular, why would you make twenty more pieces of produced content and lose money rather than make a series 2 and both keep fans or attract new fans to go back and watch series 2 again.

Do you think SAW would be as popular if there was only SAW 1?

Dude, i am an Aussie. i've never watched "McCloud's daughters" but thats maybe the one show that has been over produced. Whats another?
I've got no problem with a second or third season, hell I've got no problem with a show being made while it's still a great show. But i don't see why producers have to run all their productions into the ground where clearly it's time has passed.

Yeah, what about the IT Crowd? It has 2 seasons spanning a total of 14 episodes.

Not a very lengthy one, but a great one indeed.

Also, Life on Mars, which only spanned 2 seasons (Mind you, there is a spin-off called Ashes to Ashes and they're making an American remake).

However, sequels don't always ruin everything.

Take Doctor Who for instance. It has had so many seasons it hurts.

Hey, kind of already touched this subject so instead of copy and pasting my views, I'll just link to the thread.

be cause every body wants a slice of the pie, CSI came along then 50 billion other forensic based dramas. with this one having more boobies. or this one all women. eventually you pick your favs and ignore the rest.

i used to be a huge fan of survior but now its tired.
prison break season 1 was great 2 average. now i feel it gone on too loang. let it rest.

but i would much rater prefer a 1 or 2 season show that brilliant than one that goes on till it's limping on and everyone is sick of it.

X-Files finished, THEN all this forensic show-off crap came along.

That's the formula though: Steal Idea+(x2 amount of tits)+advertising/whoring all day every = new show

If there is an audience for it, then why not? for every one of you folks that say "milking the series" there is a fan out there who is saying "adding to the series" whenever it slips to the "milking" side they stop. Basic consumerism.

I will not you are focusing on a fairly isolated set of products. For every "milked" franchise there are a ton of new IPs out there. Don't want to go to "Saw V" go to "Quarantine" or "The City of Ember" etc.

Kudos on Black books its fucking hilarious. Though brits are guilty of it too, take Red Dwarf for example. Series 1-5 Complete comedy gold, the next 3 series, absolute wank.

Greed - for lack of a better word - is good.

Greed is right.

Greed works.

Greed clarifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit.

Greed, in all of its forms - greed for life, for money, for love, knowledge - has marked the upward surge of mankind... but then again it's also to blame for crimes against humanity like 'Meet the Spartans'

SAW 1 was a piece of genius if you ask me. The sequels were all a complete fuck-up to put it as nicely as possible.

To answer the OP, isn't it required by law for public businesses to make finacial decisions that will result in the greatest profit return for shareholders? That's why original ideas are hard to get produced, because the producers would rather make the next Spiderman movie. If one idea is guaranteed to make heaps of money, regardless of it's actual quality, then it has to be chosen over the new gamble.

It's exactly the same in the games industry, why we're getting Resident Evil 26 rather than something fresh.

It hardly seems that way now, the way the economy's looking.

Indiana Jones without Ford is like Super Mario without the Mario.
Also Americans like to take perfectly good movies from other countries and remake them.
They're doing it to 2 Icelandic movies now, Did it with [REC] and with My sassy girl.
