Why do Americans hate football(soccer) so much?

As an American, I believe that people (including me) would rather watch a more violent sport like tackle football.

Soccer is just a bunch of guys kicking a ball into a net.

You know you can always kick someone in the balls...they might even fly into a net after you do that.

Football is more popular in WESTERN Europe AND South America. I don't see why it's so popular, especially in the UK since we're much better at other sports.

Because we have a (shitty, and horridly named) sport called football already, so when Europeans talk about "football" it confuses the ignorant masses who then rage about how it's called "soccer" and that Europeans are stupid, only to be told by their smart friends that it was called "football" by Europe long ago and that we called it soccer to avoid confusion with the testosterone powered, homophobic (yet utterly in the closet) sport america calls "football", which causes the hillbillies to riot in the woods for a few days before hearing that the Greenbay packers plays on Saturday (or whatever, I dislike most sports)

I'm Canadian, and just don't care. Soccer is also a British term, so it baffles me when they rip on us for using it.

I live in England and I've never heard an english person say "soccer".

As an American, I've found people to be either insanely passionate about football, or indifferent. I don't think I've ever witnessed any outright hate for the sport, let alone rage over the World Cup.

I love soccer and follow it religious. I am also a soccer champion for my school.

As a matter of fact, down here in the heart of Alabama, people were packed into bars to watch the World Cup.

I don't hate it, I just don't see why people think it's a big deal. You're just watching a bunch of people you don't know play a game. I don't understand how anyone could have more than a passive interest in it. In my eyes all spectator sports are equally pointless.

It's not that we hate it, it's just we have a lot of homegrown (at least according to our history books they are) sports that take president over soccer. And we don't HATE it, we're just disinterested, where the hate comes from is other countries or fans trying to push the sport on people that have no interest. If we came over to your house told you that soccer/futbol was a sport for pussies just like some people do with American football, you'd be pissed, right?

Different countries have different tastes, and the only reason we gave a shit at all this year is because we actually had a presence in it.

I don't know anyone who "hates" soccer. Mainly people who "don't care" but that is the extreme of it. As was said, don't generalize.
