I dunno, Counter Strike didn't...
Can you imagine such a thing? I laughed just thinking about it.

I guess Hollywood movies are much to blame, seeing as games being cinematic is an ever important quality.

The Chief and Cortana, two star-crossed cyborgs
I thought a cyborg was a Human crossed with machines , (not to sound like an ass whole) but i thought MC was just a guy in a suit.

I thought Cortana was an AI.

Even so i never saw any "relationship between the two".

No MC is a cyborg, but yeah Cortana's an AI. It was a joke, bro. Now MC and the Arbiter, on the other hand...

It does seem like many American games have romantic subplots (I think of Dom's wife in Gears of War and Cole's girlfriend in inFamous)... probably because a relationship is a rather basic unit, and provides easy motivation for characters. Relationships, lack thereof, or a failed relationship (romantic or otherwise) can quickly spell out a character's backstory and some of their faults.

And it would seem like more Japanese games than American games have relationships, especially romantic ones. Think... damn near every Final Fantasy. You know that Warrior is into that White Mage.

The verb tense mistake in the title is killing be but I'll work around it.

I don't know why. I can think of a few that don't. But that's just a few, so they don't really count because I can think of way more games with love stories.
I agree I can't stand misuse of do/does.

I can name many 'American' games that don't.
Pong, Pacman, Galaga etc (I think they're american...).
Nah man, Mrs. Pacman is Pacman's love interest. Foiled again.

A curious statement, considering gays are supposed to love too, just differently.

As for the topic, well, maybe it's just something to advance the plot. A little arbitruary I suppose but if things aren't moving the love interest getting kidnapped is a quick and efficient way of kicking off the next level.
I know, that isn't my opinion. Its just America (and other places) if you hate the movie about the guy who has 20 girlfriends and has to choose one then you never had a girlfriend and are some shut in loser or gay.
I'm aware of what you were trying to say, and the inherent mockery against the lowest common denominator, I was just joining in on that line of thought.
Try it sometime it'll do you good.

Do you mean movie cause that seems to be the deal.

Love is stupid to me, but to the average joe, love is the only thing they can't fail at. So they suddenly give it so much importance because it requires to physical input or otherwise effort "true love at first sight' I mean. Its easy, romantic, and if you hate it ur so ghey.
Hahaha wow, pretentious much?

The average joe only likes love because it's the one thing they can't fail at?

I'm going for door number 3 here:

The door opening to reveal a very single and bitter young man at his computer...

and OP: Love/relationships are in all cultures, all society. Valued differently perhaps, but it's in our history, and our genetic make up...So this thread......should be done.

I am single and bitter but its not a cause and effect :p They're totally separate. And I thought it was clear that I didn't know what I was talking about heh. I guess I'm wrong about love.

Because romance adds depth to a story and its characters. Admittedly though, there's far too much of tokenism involved in this aspect of most American media: a single female character who's only there for the main character to fall in love with. But that's not a game problem, it's a story problem. Far too common, in America at least. Just watch anime or something: they're not so predictable with that. Even Final Fantasy X, which was largely a love story, ends differently than one might expect a love story to end.

I think you're thinking Japanese games. You can't find more than a handful that don't center around relationships between disproportionate women and effeminate men.
