Why do fanboys defend their favorite console or game company with such fervor?

Why do fanboys attack other people's consoles?

Why do fanboys attack anyone who has a criticism of a game, company, or console without even considering the validity of the criticism?

Why do fanboys protect the status quo against positive criticism, improvement, progress, and feedback?

Why do fanboys insulate their object of affection from any objective examination?

Why do fanboys act against their own self interest?

Why do fanboys even exist?

Fanboys are often the ultimate suckers, they are at the front lines of console wars, they promote propaganda and make excuses for their favorite company, they defend companies against criticism that could improve the industry, and who benefits at the end? Whatever corporation they are representing as unpaid goons.

In life there are fanatics about everything; politics, religion, national pride. Gaming is no different- at least fanboys aren't don't blow themselves up on you when you bash SSBB or Halo or whatever is their demigod of games.

Short answer; Because they're stupid

Longish answer; They feel the need to justify their choice to spend a good amount of money on a particular system and the best way to do that is to bash the other consoles/games/whatever to high heaven.

We are all fanboys to a certain agree. ´

It is quite smart really, if you don't have any real arguments about why your [insert subject of fanboyism here] is the best. You start bashing the rival and make them defend their point of argument, taking focus from your lack of agrumets.

Now this is normally detected pretty fast. But it is a intresting psychological effect.

Why do fanboys defend their favorite console or game company with such fervor? - Because they believe it is the best, and if their fragile view on reality is disproved they have nothing to live for.

Why do fanboys attack other people's consoles? - To make their choice seem better.

Why do fanboys attack anyone who has a criticism of a game, company, or console without even considering the validity of the criticism? - They are scared that the criticism may be correct.

Why do fanboys protect the status quo against positive criticism, improvement, progress, and feedback? - Stupidity.

Why do fanboys insulate their object of affection from any objective examination? - Would you want something you loved insulted? Yes? Then you're an idiot.

Why do fanboys act against their own self interest? - Again, stupidity.

Why do fanboys even exist? - I don't know. They love particular games to the extreme. They are like stalkers.

It gives people a sense of superiority to defend what is 'right'. Those who are 'wrong' need to be converted to the 'right' side. This usually entails insulting the other person's tastes, lineage, or the person themselves.

I'm the one you don't see too often - strictly defensive fanboy. I like Valve games (and, since this summer,R&C series) to death, yet i don't insult rival games (Halo, for example).

Then again,i do attack stuff, but not because it rivals what i love - because i hate that stuff for other reasons. Like it's own fanboys.

;) Kollega, so long as you could acknowledge legitimate criticisms then there's nothing wrong with that.
