Why do gamers (people on this website) generally dislike sports?

On the contrary, I personally love sports and physical exercise.

But I dunno, maybe because most people here are avid gamers and as such expect their forum topics to be more gaming-based (or prefer that). Or something.

I don't hate sports, I love going to baseball games and can't wait to check out the new Twins stadium this season. I am gonna miss the Dome though... pretty much the only sport I don't watch is golf, hockey, and soccer. Though I have checked out a few college hockey games and had a bitchin time.

When it comes to playing sports though I can't play for shit unless you count Frisbee Golf as a sport, I played baseball as a kid then missed out for two years then started up again and well... got my ass handed to me six ways from Sunday.

I do believe that RossyB has it right though with some people growing up around video rather than sports.

Love watching sports, but doing so is a social activity. You watch the game, pound a few beers back with your friends and have fun.

I don't mind playing much. I just suck at them. Used to be good, but then I got bored with playing on a competitive level.

I'm not athletic at all, and there's even less depth to most sporting competitions than in FPS multiplayer, which is saying something.

In terms of sports..im really just not interested in them. i dont HATE them per se. if i were to watch any sport it would be Pool/Snooker. Its highly intellectual and interesting to watch.

the ones i like to play myself are bowling,badminton,pool,mini-golf,darts....all the inside stuff.

I dislike watching sport as I have no desire to watch anything unless it's a film/show with a story. I play games because I am actually involved in them. I don't see the fun in watching a bunch of strangers kick a ball around or wrestle each other to the ground.

As for playing sports, I have nothing against that, but generally dislike team ones. Skiing and Scuba Diving are more my kind of thing, and they are not something you can just go out and make a day of around where I live.

To be honest I dislike the following some sport have rather than the sports themselves. When you get "real men" who think that showing affection to a woman is being a "sissy" but it's OK to cry when their team loses then there is something seriously fucked up.

As for physical activity, I just prefer the gym. I don't have to rely on anyone else and it keeps me in good shape, even if I have been neglecting it the last month...

I find it boring and plain stupid, especially since the footballers generally get tons of money for kicking a ball in a net whereas smart people and soldiers who risk their lives get shit.

[The] only thing I don't get is people who religiously watch sports on TV
This is something you cannot really explain to someone who doesn't feel the same way, which can be frustrating for both sides. For some people (like myself), a sports team can matter so much, each success and defeat feels like it belongs to you rather than a group of people you watch on tv, and to others who don't see this it's very difficult to come to terms with. The only thing you can do is to accept that some people behave like this, and to them it seems perfectly rational.

The difference between this kind of enthusiasm and the fanaticism that produces fighting and violence (because there is a difference) usually boils down to tolerance and rationality. Most people I know who are also sports fans are very accepting of other rival fans - one of my best friends is from a rival rugby - but if people become very intolerant and hostile towards other fans, instead of being able to accept that you have and are entitled to different views, then it gets nasty.
I don't get it, but I never said I didn't accept it, did I now? Joking aside, I am kinda pissed off about hooligans, but generally I say "live and let live", or "whatever floats their boat"..

I apologise for implying that you didn't accept it, that post was merely to point this out to anyone who wanted an explanation, and your post was convenient to quote.

There do seem to be a lot of complaints about sports being slow or too predictable. If I may promote my favourite sport (again), the top division of UK Rugby League has been incredibly close for the last few years, with more than a few upsets every month and most of the final table last September being decided by the last games. So if anyone is finding other sports dull and wants to find something new, keep an eye on it.

Because generally we suck at them, if we don't suck at them, we're out there doing them instead of whining about it.

...That's pretty much the short and long of it.

They simply bore me. The closest thing to a sport I can tollerate is air hockey. I like it when the pucks go sailing off the table & hit unsuspecting passers-bye in the arcades.

I don't hate sports, I just don't like any sport where there's some egotistical jock who thinks he's better then me because he has biceps bigger then his head.

That's why I love golf. Anyone can play and be good at golf, and etiquette is a major part of it so there is usually a short supply of jocks and such.

Because the football kids bullied me at school and now I will spend my life getting good jobs and eventually getting revenge.
