Okay so here's the deal, for some reason, just about ever few weeks or so, I'll start to feel depressed. I feel like shit, I think I look terrible, and I always feel bloated almost.

Why is this? I have the same symptoms as women on their period (why I refer to it as my male period). I just feel all around...blah. I even think that I look chubby but I'm only 178lbs and 6'1.

Everything on me just looks terrible but I know, in a day or two, I'll be just fine and feel and look normal in my eyes.

Usually, I'm pretty confident in the way I look. Just the other day, I was looking at myself in the mirror and said out loud, "Goddamn it, I'm sexy!" and I felt great after that, but today, everything just looks terrible.

So why is this? Any help? Strange though that I spend most of my time helping others psychologically, yet I can't help myself.

Also, if you feel the need to, PM me or message me on one of my IM accounts.

EDIT: and I guess for the sake of discussion, what do you do when you feel depressed to make yourself feel better?

Me too.

I'm seeing a psychologist, since, you know, it's a psychological problem.

And...uh...I eat pudding?

Aww...pudding makes everything better, but I'm all out, damn it! Fucking weekly trips to the grocery store. I'll make it a point next time to get more than just one pack...wait, what was I talking about?

What's your age? I'm asking because the answer might be extremely cliché but true: hormones. I have exactly the same problem you've mentioned and do think that's simply the answer in my case.

I don't know, but whatever it was, I like pudding better.

If you genuinely think you have depression, and I'm not saying you do, there's a difference between depression and just being depressed after all, then you need to seek help. Ask a councilor if you're genuinely worried, though I'd suggest checking symptoms first.

I probably won't come up with anything you haven't thought of.
hmmmmm... Getting enough sleep at night? After a few nights where I only get 6 hours of sleep I tend to feel like crap. And I look considerably fatter after a big meal as opposed to before.

Could be genetic, could be environment, could be diet, could be personality. Nearly all factors that can be changed if you try hard enough.

It sucks, I know. And if you want to overcome it then don't try to do it alone.

Going by your age I'll say hormones. I'm no psychologist (Or biologist for that matter) but maybe you have an excess of the hormone estrogen in your body. No idea really, like I said I'm no scientist.

Seeing as I'm extremely feminine, I'd say the estrogen guess would be pretty accurate.

I dunno, I used to have some depression issues, and I realized it mainly came from me overthinking things and caring about shit that doesn't matter, mine was more of a constant than an "in bursts" kind of thing though.

Well that may be it then, you may want to mention that to your parents or something, maybe you can get a prescription or some sort of treatment if it's really that tough to cope with.

Or, just, you know, get over it?

Feeling a little down every now and then as a teenager? Crazy stuff. That's never happened before in the history of ever. Clearly you need to give the guy some pills right now or he'll never be normal!

Alternatively, he could self medicate with happy thoughts, cake (an accepted medical treatment for depression[footnote]Not really.[/footnote]) and unicorns.

He's having mood swings, he's a teenage boy who has surging hormones, he'll grow out of them - just like every other teenage boy in the history of humanity.

[sub]Reading back, came off as a liiiittle bit aggressive. I'm just tired of the 'pill popping' culture where there's a drug to fix anything that even slightly deviates from the norm.[/sub]

let me offer you some advice
Breathe.
it may sound stupid but do it. close your laptop, turn off the tv, and just close your eyes and breathe. do this for a few minutes. just forget about everything and breathe.

Jeez, no need to bite my head off.

I meant that if he really has a serious problem coping with his mood swings, if they interfere with his life or schoolwork, that he should maybe see a doctor. If it really is a hormonal imbalance it could be easily corrected with some medicine, although it may just solve itself (Then again it may not, can't be sure).

And I am not part of the "Pill-popping culture" I don't even like to take Tylenol when I have a headache, I go with the "Ignore it" treatment.
